Pretty bad. Nice, friendly, prompt service, but the veggie mezze platter was the worst I've had in San Francisco (out of a sample size of ~10-15), and relatively high-priced to boot. Kind of a bummer.

This place is a regular haunt of mine, I probably come here once every couple of weeks.
Morac's basically the only game in town as far as hookah bars are concerned, so it's sort of a tautology that it's "as good as it gets." The servers are friendly, the outside seating is pretty good and makes for fantastic peoplewatching, and they even serve a little food if that's your thing. The beer selection could be better, but you're not coming here for the beer, you're coming here because it's a hookah bar.
If you give these people twenty dollars, they will give you a device that lets you breathe smoke and get a pretty solid buzz going, and they will also serve you beer, which you can sip as you watch the never-ending flow of hipsters and panhandlers go by. Five stars.

Being able to bring my own bottle of beer is a nice, unexpected treat that I wish was more common in SF, but let's be honest, the food here is only okay at best.
There are 20 restaurants in a one-block radius of this place that are orders of magnitude better, food-wise. It's a shame, but Pakwan doesn't live up to its location, location, location.

Truly Mediterranean

Hole in the wall. Best Mediterranean food I've found in sf. Fantastic falafel. The combo platter with extra hot sauce is more tasty food than I can eat, and I can eat a lot of food.
A word of advice, though - skip out on the cheese+garlic+yogurt drink. It's pretty weird.

Soup To Nuts

Several nights each week (you can find out which by checking his twitter feed at https://twitter.com/#!... ), this guy Patrick is out on the corner of 21st and Valencia wearing a chef's suit and selling homemade soup and truffles.
This is really good soup. These are really good truffles.
Last night he had a good vegan chili going on, and his truffles were this butterscotch almond cinnamon red pepper thing that were just really fucking good. I mean to say that this guy makes really great truffles. He is good at this.
Patrick's a really animated guy, and it's really fun to see him do his food stand thing - he loves telling folks about the story that got him here (he's apparently a really good chef, was courted by french laundry, worked with wolfgang puck or something I don't know I don't watch food network), and most importantly, he makes really good food.
Worth stopping by if you're in need of tasty soup and/or tasty dessert and are walking around 21st and Valencia on a weeknight.

My favorite thing about visiting San Antonio:
Hanging out with old friends until 2AM, driving back alone from whatever hookah bar / house / whatever we picked as our last stop for the night, stopping by Taco Palenque on the way home and having a big thing of piping hot menudo in a paper-thin styrofoam bowl.
Free chips, fantastic salsa bar [and I pride myself on my knowledge of salsa bars], smiling service even at Godawful hours.
Let's be clear, here: this place is a delicious taqueria, is just off the highway, has free chips and a great salsa bar, and is open 24/7. Eat dinner here. Show owner comment »

This place is as slow as everyone says. Only come here for lunch if you don't need to be anywhere for at least an hour.
The food's pretty good, though - the fajitas were really surprisingly oily, but extremely delicious. Also, the tortillas were homemade, and were definitely five-star material - I should have picked up a dozen on my way out. Next time.
