I love coffee....period. But I love coffee even more when it comes from a local business and not some large overrated overpriced chain. South Austin has so many undiscovered gems tucked away in not so easy to spot...spots! Right next to Jovitas on South First is a lovely little coffee stand called Marys, not easy to find and I did pass it at first but was so happy I went back to try it out. Its cuban coffee, the menu is basic and to the point. I had the "Cuban coffee con leche". Lets just say my taste buds were dancing and I knew I had discovered one of Austins best kept secrets. I didnt have to add anything to the coffee, no sweetener, no creamer...nada! It was perfect! This place is a must try and once you do, I know you'll become a fan.If you cant handle strong coffee get yours half decaf; I'm def AWAKE right now from my cup of Cubana! FYI- they arent at the location listed, they are now on S First right next to Jovitas.

I've been going to the Texican for about 17 yrs now and I still enjoy it. I took my husband there recently and we ordered the fried red jalapenos and a huge stuffed burrito which we split. There was no way we could of eaten it alone, the waitress luckily warned us instead of letting us over order. The burrito came out on two plates and both had sides. You never would of known it was a split dish. The burrito was stuffed w/beef fajita meat and was super yummy. The fried stuffed jalapenos were amazing and the dip they came with made them the perfect appetizer. Our waitress was super busy but kept our glasses filled and checked in regularly. The chips and salsa were tasty as well. The place was packed but luckily it has expanded to hold more ppl than it originally did when it first opened. If you decide to drop in, ask to be seated in Carries section, she was awesome!
