I always like trying out new local places around town so I came here on a weekday around lunch time to try out some Italian sandwiches!

They had a pretty straight-forward menu with about 4 or 5 specialty sandwiches listed.  Trying to stay healthy, I decided to make my own sandwich.  I got turkey & hot salami on sourdough with sprouts, lettuce & tomato.  It was a pretty good sandwich, but not the best I've ever had.  I wish the sourdough bread had a crispier crust.  Next time I will check to see if they can toast it for me.

I also got to try some of their antipasto salad.  The pasta was a bit dry for my liking but it had good flavor.

Overall, a pretty decent place.  I would give it another try on one of my diet cheat days and get one of their specialty sandwiches with all the fixings!

Lowe's Home Improvement

-1 star for unfriendly service
-1 star for not having items in stock week after week

We came to Lowe's to pick up some mini-blinds for our garage window after my aunt sent us a video showing how to break into a garage in 6 seconds.

Several times, Mashi (a Lowe's employee wearing a Service Manager vest) walked by and did not acknowledge our presence. Then later on, she returns to help out some other customers to cut their mini blinds and still did not acknowledge us (and we were there first!).

So finally after she is done helping the other customers, she asks us what we need. She spoke in a matter of fact tone and was not very friendly. She did her job and satisfied our needs, but I would expect a service manager to be friendlier than she was.

Also, every time we go to Lowe's we look for a Lutron Maestro dimmer for our ceiling fan control.  Each time we go, it is out of stock.  This is very irritating.  If a particular item is in such high demand, why don't they order more? Or if you are unable to get it, remove the label from the shelf and replace it with something else.

Mena's Bistro and Tamaleria

My BF & I decided to give this place a try since it got some good reviews on Yelp.  We even convinced my BF's sister to come along too.  Unfortunately, we were all disappointed.

The place was pretty empty when we went in.  Our waiter looked like a pre-teen kid, but he tried his very best to be a very good host.  His service and attempt at providing food selections were very endearing and was the only thing that redeemed this place.

We ordered a salad and it was huge.  Gigantic.  But more is not always better.  The cilantro dressing wasn't very flavorful.

I also ordered a tamale.  I was craving a good tamale and was hoping to get a really good one, but when I got my tamale, it was dry and cold in the middle.  I also did not like rice or beans.  I think they could've used more flavoring.

My BF's sister got some carne asada and it turned out pretty dry.

It seems like the people who own this place try to provide really good service and try really hard, but I think the food needs a little bit more in order for this establishment to do better.

I probably won't be back to try this place again anytime soon, but if they are still around in a year or so, then I would be willing to give them another try.

I recently came back to a newly remodeled Red Lobster and both the atmosphere and the service was much better.  The place looked clean and our waiter was attentive.

I'm still not a huge fan of Red Lobster's food in general but I do love their clam chowder & cheddar biscuits!

I want to rate this Red Lobster with three stars, but the service i received when i went there most recently knocked one more star off my rating.

When the waitress took our order, she sat down right in our booth like she was about to have dinner with us! It was really awkward. Then throughout our meal she kept forgetting things. She forgot my soup. She forgot my brother's soda. She never offered any drink refills. And this was at around 9 pm on a Sunday so it wasn't that busy.

The food is not that great at Red Lobster. I really only go there whenever I feel like having some cheddar biscuits and clam chowder.

I finally tried some fro-yo at Cultive and it was pretty good.

They had a variety of flavors and I tried a few - Sweet Coconut, Strawberry & Chocolate.  My favorite of the three was the chocolate.  I would have liked the strawberry to have a little more tartness to it.

I'm not a huge topping person but it looked like they had a wide variety of dry/candy toppings.  They could expand on their fresh fruit selections.

I love V. Sattui!

I ended up here with a bunch of friends after leaving a different winery where we had tasted lots of reds.  I'm not a big drinker so when I do drink wine, I prefer whites.  So a friend suggested we head over to V. Sattui.

I was reluctant at first to go through another wine tasting, so I split one tasting with my BF.  They did not disappoint!  I really liked their Riesling & their Moscato.  I liked it so much that my BF ended up buying 2 bottles of each for us & his folks.

I liked the atmosphere at V. Sattui as well.  They sell food, have a nice picnic area and when we did the tasting, the staff was really friendly and suggested great wines to go with the selections we liked.

This place does get really busy on the weekends though so I would suggest trying to go on a weekday to avoid the crowds.

Tokyo Sushi

My BF & I decided to try this place today (and yes, they do play church music during lunch).

We both decided to get a bento box and then we shared a sushi roll as well.

There were only three tables (including ourselves), but it took a very long time for us to get our food.

I ordered a bento with chicken katsu, tempura and sashimi.  What I got was pork katsu, tempura and sashimi.  My pork katsu was already covered in katsu sauce which made me irritated.  I like my sauces separate.  It was also extra crunchy, which was ok, but not what I expected.  The tempura tasted like lotion, which was not very pleasant.  I was happy with the sashimi, it tasted fresh.

My BF got a bento with chicken teriyaki and california rolls.  He said the chicken was dry and uneventful.

The sushi roll we got was some sort of special spicy tuna creation.  We thought we had chosen a roll without too many sauces, but the roll was drenched in a sweet sauce that was not what we wanted in a spicy tuna roll.

Overall, the food was ok, but nothing super special.  The staff seemed nice, but did not offer any soda refills.

The complimentary pineapple boat thingy was a nice and redeeming gesture.

Buckhorn Steakhouse

First thing about the Buckhorn.  The have scary looking deer, moose and elk heads hanging up on the wall.  But i guess that gives it the "Hunter's Lodge" kind of feel.

I always expect to have a wait whenever coming here so calling in for a reservation is always a good idea.  Generally the serviced is decent here as well.  They are attentive to refilling drinks and clearing used plates.

The sourdough bread that comes with the meal is warm, soft and great.

I chose to get a salad with my meal but it came with a big lettuce butt which is a no no.  The cream of mushroom soup they had that day was ok, but my BF & I could only eat so much of it.

Usually when I go to Buckhorn, I end up getting the filet which always comes out so tender and seasoned well.  But on this most recent visit, I wanted to try something different.  So I ended up with the Buck's cut Prime Rib.  It was so moist, tender and juicy!  Definitely a good choice to pick!

My BF ended getting a combo of ribs, filet and beer battered shrimp.  We're not big on beer batter so we scraped off the excess batter and just ate the shrimp, which were large, plump and yummy.  The ribs were moist, saucy and fell off the bone.  The filet was also really good.

Overall, Buckhorn is always a local favorite when we want a nice steak meal.  I haven't been disappointed by their food yet.  Just be prepared to be stuffed because they always provide huge portions!

Oz Korean BBQ

We were in the area and looked up some yelp reviews to find a good place to get some dinner. We ended up following the yellow brick road to Oz!

The moment we walked in, I could smell the meaty goodness. The waitress we had was nice but she failed to refill my water. I was so thirsty!

I ordered the Stone Age Bibimbop and my BF got the Oz Galbi. We also shared a Seafood Tofo soup. The burnt rice was was deliciously crispy in the bibimbop, but the meat and veggies could've used more seasoning. The Oz Galbi was ok, but we've gotten more meat at our favorite Kbbq place in SF. The seafood tofu soup was really good and loaded with tofu and a variety of seafood.

If I ever returned, I would try to get the all you can eat Kbbq to get more meat!

Positives: The pho here is pretty good.  Prices are low and I like how you can get different sizes depending on your appetite.

Negatives: I've had better pho elsewhere. They don't provide as much veggies and bean sprouts as I would like and i don't like the fact that each time I've been here, I have to swat off flies.
