I got some custom headphones made here. They are AWESOME. I brought in my existing in-ear headphones, and they made molds of my ear and sent in the headphones to this company which makes earplugs. A couple weeks later, I had custom earplugs which are compatible with my headphones. Since this was an unusual request, Jonathan took care to make sure everything went smoothly, and that they sounded good when I got them. I'm writing this review because a co-worker wants to get some now and I had to look up the location of the office again, so I thought I'd write about them now that I have had them for a few months.

Just moved down to Burlingame, and was looking for a cafe I could make "mine." This is the place. Nice owners, free wifi, good food, decent coffee. See ya there.
Update: Ricky, one of the owners, who now recognizes me and calls me by name and knows that I get "the usual", frequently gives customers little "goodies" when they're eating. Today it was a small piece of carrot cake. Totally unexpected and a nice touch. I wish there were 6 stars.

Met my friend Kovacs here. He's a regular. But, not as regular as some of the other characters here. I have walked by this place a million times because it seemed sort of like a cave, and now I know why. Let me describe the real regulars. This is all hearsay:
- some ex radio personality from the '80s, now a movie critic who is too cheap to get internet at his house, so he comes here. Thinks he owns the place, so be prepared to deal with him if you do something he doesn't like.
- Lady who freaked out because I put my stuff down at a table before getting my drink.
- Retired painter who pays all his bills using his social security check at the beginning of the month, and spends the rest of lottery tickets. Rent control at it's best. God forbid these guys are priced out of the city!
There are 10 tables in the place, so that's a good % of them taken up by these people. Of course, you have to listen to their conversations too...

We watched this cop tag a few people (see pic), and after each one, he would make his own traffic violation, including: illegal uTurn, running a stop sign.
As an emergency vehicle, the officer is obliged under this code to follow all traffic laws except in an emergency or pursuing a violation, in which case he must (among other things): "sounds a siren as may be reasonably necessary and the vehicle displays a lighted red lamp visible from the front as a warning to other drivers and pedestrians" this guy was not

Stop giving out lame tickets and start busting people for breaking into cars! You're not serving and you're not protecting - do your job!

I tried to get permits issued to park my moving truck since my new apartment was in this district. I was sent around from voicemail to voicemail, with no helpful information. I tried calling multiple times, but no help. Reading the other reviews, it looks like the SFPD do not serve and protect, which is disappointing. I guess the city has a history of this, as back in the day, there was actually a group of vigilantes who used to take the law into their own hands since the SFPD sucked so back. Some things never change.

I recently checked this place out because of the good reviews on Yelp. They did not disappoint. The people who run it are super nice. Since I first came here a week or two ago, I've been back 4 times. In those 4 visits, they have stayed open late twice, and today they invited me to join their coffee club since they recognized me. If you ask nicely, they will give you the password to free wifi too.

Update: as of the spring 2008 semester, management has been outsourced. It's now the most expensive coffee in the area, it's lost the art student vibe, and the woman who manages it seems to be barely keeping the place under control. This place has really lost it's mojo - the students don't even really hang out here anymore. Bummer. SFAI, please bring back the old cafe - the community misses it!
A true hidden gem. I almost don't want to post a review for fear that I might let the secret out. I live a block or so away, and I come here frequently. A great departure from the yuppieness of most other good cafes - the artist vibe is excellent. Free wifi. Amazing views, comfortable, plentiful seating. Inexpensive, high quality food, fun, friendly staff. Free art gallery on the way in/out that seems to change once a week, so stop in for 5 min. Make sure you tip generously!
