Pete's Tavern

Within two minutes of walking into the bar, putting my bag on a bench to get out my wallet I was greeted by one of the local patrons: "I'm going to need my bar stool and my space at the bar back." It's that kind of place. A place where locals have been coming here forever and bartenders are open to conversations. In fact, I saw three groups of people come in and talk with the bartender like family. (Said bartender also looked like Lowell from Wings--no joke)

Dark wooden booths with glass cabinets above featuring memorabilia from the bar. Signs of being the "first original bar in New York" line the bar with bartenders in their matching black shirts and pants. It's nice to see that every so often. I mean sure, seeing a girl in a short skirt serve a cocktail is great for a male friend but I'd rather a seasoned bartender make my drink. And, strike up a good conversation about the other guests..

It's a Cheers bar of Gramercy but a place where celebrities come in to grab a drink as seen by the photos of celebrities like Johnny Depp, Bruce Willis, Natalie Portman line the walls with newspaper clippings describing how great this bar is.

Stayed here for two drinks. Watched one guy (read: drunk guy who came over in my face and said HEY!) get kicked out of the bar and the bartenders jump over the bar to keep him out. (Yes!)

This is a good spot to bring clients and out of towners and show them some local flare. Outdoor seating is great as well and I'm sure their burgers are good. (If they're serving burgers at midnight they HAVE to be!)

Tapas Tapas Tapas. A sampling of anything off the menu is yummy after a day of shopping in the Union Square area. Add in some delicious sangria (I chose the white) and you're set.

My friend had the beer sangria which I was skeptical to try, but to my surprise was extremely tasty. Must get next time I stop by.

Price is reasonable. Drinks are strong. Food is perfect and the different menus ranging from brunch to lunch to late afternoon offer a perfect option to anyone dining in or just there for an afternoon cocktail.

The Porch Coffee Shop & Bar

The Good:
Outdoor space with good crowd
Deck area with room to fit 25+ of your closest friends
Drinks around 6-7$
Ability to reserve an area by calling 3-4 days ahead of time

The Bad:
They kick you out of the outside area at 11pm (and they do it rudely)
Smoking on the porch. (I know it's outside but still. Ick)

Summary: This place is awesome. Had such a blast. Good for groups definitely and birthday parties are fun here as well. Summer spot that I will be returning to for sure.

Awesome. The perfect ending to an awesome night. (Well--this was mine so bare with me)

Bring someone special here after dinner in DUMBO and walking around Brooklyn Bridge Park to stare at the view. Get an ice cream cone. No reason to come get ice cream in the park if you're going to hold back and get a cup...live a little :)

This place reminds me of Newport, RI or those small beach house towns that have the one ice cream shop to serve to the kids. You immediately feel happy leaving here. Plus, you're satisfied with some damn good ice cream.

My favorite- Vanilla Chocolate Chunk.

PD O'Hurley's

I agree with Masumi. Living nearby I run by this place every day and always want to try it. Summer nights and outdoor seating in New York is a super bonus in my book, so this place located conveniently on the Hudson River next to the Intrepid looked perfect.

We decided to grab dinner and on one of the first sunny and warm evenings of the summer, I quickly suggested PD O'Hurleys. Not ever checking out the menu, I assumed we'd have a simple choice of some burgers and fries. Well, that's about it folks. You get a choice of burger, chicken salad, chicken wrap. And, maybe one more thing but I can't remember.

The food: My wrap was OK but I felt ill later on . The salad my friend got was less than huge. Plus, for 14$ I would expect a little more. I guess you're paying for the view. Oh yea, the view. It's not that great if you're seated in the middle of the bar. And really, who wants to check out little kids running in the fountain?

The service: We quickly decided that our waitress had a personal vendetta against my friend as he eagerly looked for a refill without her even glancing over. We then got rushed the check and nothing else. Fail.

What this is good for: A drink. They can't mess up beers I'm sure and the cocktails looked plentiful. Come to sit outside and enjoy a cocktail after work and watch the sunset. Skip the food and bring good company. It will offer some laughs at the, INTERESTING crowd as we saw.

AMC Empire 25

Times Square doesn't usually scream TAKE ME THERE! but if you've read my other reviews, you'll realize that I live right by it so I take advantage of the place that has "everything a tourist could need and more!" That included movie theaters.

AMC works. It's convenient. Has enough machines in the front to allow for easy swipe purchase of tickets, plus they usually are playing the better movies of the bunch and have a LOT of shows. Example: Friend and I decided we wanted to see Star Trek late at night. 12:30 it was. Done and done.

Can't really rate the food as I'm not a popcorn and soda gal. I also don't like paying for junk food when I can get a decent meal for the same price right around the corner. Ah, the recession.

If you're looking for a theater and are in midtown, don't knock it. Stadium seating in every theater, plus, convenient to get to.

To the waiter who had the pleasure (or displeasure) of serving my table last night---I just want to say thank you. Dealing with 4 women who can drink, one who has been drinking all day and slept a total of 19 hours within the past 4 days, plus a need for great service---you did amazing.

The wine- delicious. And yes Mr. Waiter, we DID ask if we had finished the bottle when we realized it wasn't on our table. THANK YOU for putting it on ice but if you do that again and take our wine bottle out of vision again, we may have a problem ;).

The atmosphere- to die for. Perched against a small window in a booth (only way to go---booth or bust.) the 4 of us could have a conversation without screaming.

The food- WOW. I ordered the bistro salad which had chicken liver, speck, poached egg. My other diners picked at the steak, salmon and cleared plates. All was amazing.

Service- like I said. A gem.

Come here for anything. Dinner with girlfriends. Dinner with your boyfriend/girlfriend. Come early for a drink in the cute bar in the back too if you can.

Solid. Any place near Bedford automatically gets a bunch of stars for location alone. While the sidewalk is currently under construction, I suspect outdoor seating on 6th Avenue for people watching to come soon.

Order the rosé it was delicious. I had the scallops---quite good as well. Quiet at 7pm but picks up around 8. Friendly staff and not too pushy. Bar is quaint with about 10 seats. Crowded with lovelies sipping the early cocktail.

Missed the trout tartare which is apparently unbelievable. Excuse to come back.

If you can say YES to any of the following questions, 99 Cents is right for you. If you're looking for a good slice, walk around the corner to Monetti's and pick your choice.

1.Are you drunk?
2.Is it pass 2am?
3. Do you only have $1 on you and are STARVING?
4.Are you drunk?
5.Are you having a "Let's do all the things we did in college" night with you friends?
6.Are you drunk?
