Sam's Morning Glory Diner

Neighborhood: Bella Vista

This is definitely one of the best gut-bomb satisfying brunch places in Philly. The wait-staff can be a bit surly, but mind your manners, don't expect automatic water-refills and you'll make it out okay.  The menu is delicious, home-y with creative updates mixed in.  Be prepared for a wait on the weekend, and don't attempt a party of more than 4.

Delicious gut-bomb of a brunch option. They have something on the menu to feed every hungry lumberjack in your group. Which is good, since you'll certainly work up an appetite waiting for your table!

Little Fish

Category: Seafood

5 star rating

Little Fish is fantastic.  As other reviewers have noted, Little Fish is exactly that -- little.  The meal was terrific from start to finish. They've opted to replace standard olive oil with a chimmichuri dipping sauce.  The lobster appetizer was unreal -- a serious piece of lobster bathed in delicious buttery goodness adorned with fresh peas and mushrooms.  My striped bass was perfectly prepared and the BF's skate wing was also terrific (but we decided the bass was the real winner). Both dishes were nice sized-portions and really nice balanced flavors.
The price is a bit high ($27-29 for entrees) but balanced by the fact that it's BYOB and the food is well worth every penny.
The hand-written and butcher paper menus add charm, while the friendly and talkative waitstaff makes dinner more enjoyable.
The only drawback is that because the restaurant is so small, the space can get a little smoky and steamy when the kitchen really gets going and bathroom is nothing short of underwhelming.

Jean's Nails

Loved Jean's Nails. It's nothing special from the outside, but step inside, and you're welcomed with a spacious, newly remodled space. Two big-screen TVs lure you to zone out while being pampered and polished.  Plenty of recent magazines and non-annoying music also help the ambiance.  Their massage chairs are seriously out of this world. Everything is super clean.
After a so-so rushed mani/pedi at Rittenhouse Nails, I was worried I'd have the same treatment walking in 30" before closing. Instead the ladies stayed open late and didn't even rush through my drying or (free!) shoulder massage.
Plus - for $29 - their spring 30% off special, you can't go wrong.  And they even accept tip on credit card!!

Marigold Kitchen

This terrific West Philly BYOB is well worth the trip from Center City.  Nestled into a quiet corner on a pretty block, Marigold is a comfy, homey, and intimate.  (We sat upstairs and thought it would be a perfect spot for a dinner party / birthday party for 15-20)

Their "3 for 30" prix fixe on Sundays is a terrific bargain, and the apple cake dessert should not be missed.

The presentation and taste of everything was delicious -- absolutely rivals Matyson, and like a classed up Audrey Claire (we noticed little bits of Mediterranean throughout -- eggplant etc).

The artwork in the bathroom is beyond charming ("Recipe for Dinosaur Soup")

Service was a bit spotty, but that can easily be overlooked when the dinner bill for 4 comes and it's $135 all in.

If you're looking for a mojito that packs a serious punch, look no further than Alma De Cuba.  Lush red lighting makes the bar a perfect spot to suck down the tasty - but pricey - cocktails.

Veritas Prep GMAT

I wholeheartedly agree with Ken's review.  Veritas was great and really made the difference for me and the GMAT.  The instructors were phenomenal - especially David, who went above and beyond to provide solid lectures, good examples, and additional supplementary materials.

In addition to great teachers, Veritas' online classes were really helpful - either for reviewing material you're fuzzy on or making up for a missed class.   Plus, they give you access to so many practice GMAT tests (some of their own, plus others they license), so you'll really feel prepared by the time test day comes.

The class format of Veritas really sets it apart from other programs. For me, having the hands-on classroom time plus TONS of homework/practice problems was the necessary nudge I needed to make sure I was devoting adequate time to studying.

The books are well thought out and give you a lot of detail. I'd recommend supplementing it with the Official GMAT guide (in your final weeks of studying) to really help give you a sense of the official GMAT Qs.

$45 for a mediocre mani/pedi is not up my alley.  Maybe some of the technicians are great, but mine was really nothing special.  Their massage chairs aren't a massage as much as a constant vibration.  Friday's mani is now totally chipped 3 days later.  Not somewhere I'd go back anytime soon.

Super cute little boutique located unexpectedly in the Upper East Side.  They have tons of cute tops, dresses and jewelry plus some jeans/pants.  I found a dress there that I had been eyeing at Anthropologie ($154), but just in slightly different colors and with a different label, but exactly the same otherwise, except the price was half ($84)!

Mayo Family Winery Reserve Room

Category: Wineries

Tasting at Mayo is definitely one of the most unique experiences you'll have in Sonoma! The tasting is pricey, but you'll taste ~6 wines, each paired with an awesome small plate.  A perfect last stop on your way out of Sonoma, especially as the afternoon sun pours into the small tasting room.  You can either sit/eat/drink at the bar, or at one of the small tables in the tasting room.
