To this day I still haven't found the worlds perfect stylist, for me. So this review is not for the stylists here but in spending time in this salon, I would be willing to give one of them a try. Preferably one that loves long hair. ;)
Aveda products are my alltime fave. I fell in love with Shampure over a decade ago. I've strayed many times but inevitably always go back to it. I was in Blu yesterday to replenish my Shampure supply and it hit me. Looking around the store, there is so much more than just shampoo and conditioner going on. The aromas were driving me crazy. I had to unscrew all of the caps and inhale. It was so much fun. The ladies that work in the salon were extremely attentive and although that can be pesky at times I have to admit that without them I would have never even glanced twice at the blue oil. The blue oil....mmmm....a combination of peppermint & chamomile oil. It smells heavenly and calms me like nothing else.
I recommend visiting this salon. Of course I do!
The Aveda Whore has spoken.
I had to go with the classic but the cheesecake was looking very yummy. We ordered the vanilla bean cream but the belgium chocolate sounded really good too. The puff pastry is light and airy with a sweet crunch. The custard was abundant! And creamy smooth. I had no complaints. I've had cream puffs from a handful of local places and I can honestly say that this one was different and worth it.
Next time I'm in the neighborhood I'ma try the Mont-Blanc.
Wow!!! 5 stars you guys! It was much bigger and still with the wonderful fresh ingredients. When businesses care this much about customer satisfaction that business deserves to stay around forever. So get thee to the Arcadia mall and buy up crepes like there is no tomorrow!
Remember people, it stimulates the economy.

I'm a bit torn on this one. I can give them props but give them a big no-no finger as well.
Firstly, the crepe making process is fun to watch and this place lets you. Second, everything they use is fresh. The spinach & mushrooms were straight from the produce aisle. The girl behind the counter was very likable and attended to each customer to the end. So there are your 3 stars.
The other two stars are a negative because the size of the crepe was skimpy. The amounts placed on the crepe were barely enough to feed one person, let alone two. I have been to a phenomenal crepe place right here in the Pasadena area and they actually have a half or full order for their Brittany Crepes ( I get the half because the full is so effing big!). I have also been to a few wonderful crepe places in SF and the one constant in all of them is that the crepes are abundant with meat, cheese & veggies. They are folded only once to get all of that yumminess in. If I wanted a quick to-go style munchie I would eat a churro. Let's bulk those crepes up, eh Valerie? In an effort to eat better and lighter and not go for the stuffed pizza across the way at Sbarro we should be rewarded with more mushrooms...more spinach....more, more, more.
I have no qualms about going to Valerie's again. But with the knowledge that it's more of a snacky visit than a meal visit.

Comfortable, quaint, beautifully decorated & chock full of eye candy.
Now on to the coffee!
LOL
Seriously. This place is gorgeously decorated. The menu's are clearly displayed, artfully arranged & filled with so many options that it was very hard to decide.
We approached the counter and the lovely lady said "Whenever you are ready ladies". Sweet! I am!!
My mom ordered a chai latte and I asked if I could get the mexican hot chocolate dirty (she taught me that word and I absolutely love it!!) You see, she only had a mocha or a hot mexican cocoa. I asked if I could meld the two together. She had no problem with that. Bonus!
I tried both the chai latte and "mexican mocha" and they were above and beyond the best I've had. We also ordered an apple turnover (or something like it) but this was different from anything I have had. This apple turnover was soft, flavorful and for some reason everything I ended up trying at this place melted in my fricken mouth! I swear this woman must add some magical mega secret flavor additive to everything!
It was morning so I didn't order any sammiches but I did read the choices and they sounded so delish that I can't wait to go back and order one!
Try this place. She also had wifi and she had her music choice on big band and swing (which I'm sure changes from time to time but the music she played was perfect!)
Go Now!
SPICY BBQ CHICKEN! and a sunkist. mmmmmmmmmMMMMmmmmm!
Track them.
It's an experience that needs to be had.
I hear they are catching on. Get up to speed people!

Surprise!
Not so. Upon walking in you get the feeling of a quaint little baked goods shop but it is so much more. The available cakes were in abundance and uniquely shaped and designed. The frosting isn't overpowering the look of the cakes. "hat box" shaped cakes dominate here but I would prefer that to a standard overly decorated, sickly sweet work of fluff.
The red velvet cake that my son ordered was rich and delicious with a subtle hint of chocolate, which is what a red velvet cake should taste like but never really does. I ordered not a pecan pie but a pecan "square", that tasted just like a pie....but wasn't. We tasted the lemon tart and drooled over the chocolate draped strawberries. Everything was so mouth wateringly good that I requested a business card and told them I would Yelp them very positively.
There should be more bakeries like this one.
Oh yah....and overpriced? Hrmmm....bought the red velvet cake (which was your average sized cake) for the same price that I've bought Ralph's brand red velvet which doesn't compare to Nancy's at all. Ever.

Whole Foods Market
Categories: Grocery, Health Markets

I was surprised to buy banana's for 99 cents or a bag of mixed greens for just a couple bucks. I was impressed that the avocado's were 10 for $10 since I usually buy a bag of 4 for $5.99 at regular stores. I was amazed that condiments are also cheaper than supermarket giants and they offered healthier options that really WERE healthier.
I have to agree with the majority of this stores reviewers here on Yelp. Especially considering the Foothill store really is a sucky, pretentious one.

I stand corrected with this Whole Foods market.
http://www.yelp.c...
It's a healthy persons wet dream. It's also a chefs porn mag. I first sat with brown rice sushi and a glass of Merlot and purveyed the area. The food area was well thought out. Each bar was well stocked with wonderful choices. I had a hard time choosing. The sushi won.
OK...so here is a taste of what a food geek I really am. I had close personal conversations with the wine Aficionado, Chocolatier & Poissonier! The Wino in me was drawn to the Wine Steward. I asked him about many of the wines in stock and NOT in stock that should be.
I had a wonderful conversation with Miss Chocolat over there at the Chocolate bar. She was awesome with her knowledge of her nummies. I asked about garlic, olive & chile chocolate and she led me to the Ancho Chile caramel chocolate and Vosges bacon chocolate. MmmmMmmmMmmm!!
I stopped at the fish counter and made chums with the fish guy. We discussed the scarcity of Chilean Sea Bass , wild salmon vs. farmed and the similarities between his spicy cilantro marinade and chimichurri sauce.
All in all a very satisfactory visit.
The prices are still skyrocket high but some gems are there to partake of......and so I do.

Fair Oaks Burger
Category: Restaurants
Neighborhood: Pasadena
I had read that Fair Oaks Burger wasn't quite Hawkins but they were so close that we decided to go in.
I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries and a coke, Scott ordered an avocado bacon double plain (he always orders plain), fries and a coke. So I'm going to make a Hawkins comparison based on what I've read. Burgers were amazing. Fresh lettuce, tomato and onion. The bacon was crisp and the burger itself was piping hot! The burger didn't have a hot link or a fried egg in it but I was completely satisfied with what it did have. The fries(more like steak fries) were delish with a multi-spice seasoning sprinkled on top and the coke was NOT flat at all. These girls run a very inviting and honest restaurant. I will go back and back.
