I don't think this is the best place in the world, but damn there menu is huge and that goes for both the food and the drinks. Now if I was drinking, I'd have even more fun here, but I'm not much of a drinker these days. Don't make fun of me!
Most recently I went here for the brunch and in that time I discovered something extra special about this place: The oysters. Oh lord are they good, they are the best I've ever had. Fatty, sweet, liquidy. I was trying not to share them at first but everyone saw my reaction to them and insisted on having some as well. Less for me, darn.
I like the creativity in the menu, though some things, like the omelet with morel mushrooms, don't fully utilize the unique ingredients they feature to their fullest.
In any case, this is def. a good place to take the fam or anyone who wants to have a memorable, comfortable, and happily drunken dining experience without all the drama that some of the more dinky all the rage restaurants come with (I go to those too, but are they fun?).
In any case, don't forget to get the oysters and definitely leave room for a cheese plate at the end of the meal. For a full review of this place you can also go here: http://www.romanc...;

Dalia Bistro & Wine Bar
Categories: Wine Bars, American (New)
I think I am a rather hard person to impress when it comes to wine, especially when I've been spending my weekends at Terroir in SF. But even my parents, who live in PA, were disappointed by the wine.
However, we weren't disappointed by the food, the service, or the ambiance. No way!
Due to recommendations of my fellow yelpers, I ordered the scallops. They were delicious, especially when you caught a piece with the bacon. All and all the food was very inventive, even my mom's pasta which came in a bechamel sauce was jazzed up with some cherries.
The environment is super cozy. They feature couches for booths that are very comfortable. The noise level is pretty low too so it's easy to have a conversation. My parents really enjoyed it. Also, the service is excellent. I felt very welcomed there.

The Creamery

I had one of the blandest salads of my life here, and it was far from creamy in fact it was rather dry. The salad itself, and the goat cheese they use. I was pretty surprised. Maybe I will try something else next time. The staff was nice.

What I like about this place most is the music the employees play. Most of it is good. In fact, I have learned about a lot of music by studying/writing at this cafe.

Place Pigalle
Category: Dive Bars
Neighborhood: Hayes Valley
What I like most are the variety of seating options. There are couches, from the front to back of the bar, which is rather large. There is a pull table in the middle of the back room. My friend and I sat in a booth in the back which felt very private.
The drink options aren't amaaazing. The wine I had was good, but rather pricey. They serve La Crema wine, which I think tastes just like grape juice. So all and all, you can easily purchase some of the wine they serve in a corner store in the mission paying the same price for the bottle as you do for a glass at Place Pigalle. This is in no way unique to PP. This is done virtually everywhere in the city. I just happened to know the wines at PP. Thus, I am not taking a star off for that. What you're paying for, in my opinion, is the atmosphere, and I like the atmosphere at PP a lot.
The other patrons are young for the area, which made me feel more at ease. Different age groups mix together though, so it's not like a young mission bar.
I look forward to coming back here.

Kara's Cupcakes
Categories: Bakeries, Desserts
Neighborhood: Marina/Cow Hollow
What bothers me about this place is the customer service. I don't know why, but I had a bad customer service week a little while back, and an experience at Kara's is what kicked it off. I came there on my lunch break absolutely dying for a cupcake. I walked in and was looked at like I was a rat - Ok, I may obviously be from the mission and not the marina but for god sakes.... They were short with me, and generally unfriendly. I felt it weird phenomenon in SF, and especially since they were surrounded by cupcakes - aren't they supposed to make you happy? The weirdest thing was when I asked for water and they asked me to get the cup: "Um could you get your cup?" It was weird.
My friends have tons of horror stories about this location so I know I am not the only one.
Fortunately, I didn't experience this same kind of service at the Giradelli Square location, but who knows. Until then, I would rather eat cupcakes somewhere else. Who wants to feel like shit when you're already about to eat 700 calories in one bite?

Patxi's Chicago Pizza
Category: Pizza
Neighborhood: Hayes Valley
Patxi is more cheese forward while Little Star is more sauce forward. Since I like pizza like Whoah both of these essential ingredients are of the utmost importance to my little taste buds (actually they're pretty tough, not so little really, kind of dominating actually).
Patxi, however, is a little less quirky. They don't got that great jukebox that Little Star has, and the crowd is less hip and more family.
However, Patxi is open for lunch and little star is not. Patxi also serves slices. That's right, they serve Chicago style pizza by the slice. This is an obvious score for them.
So, in the long run, I like both places, but Patxi is cheaper and closer to my house, so it wins for now.
I went to Mack & Manco with my entire family (at least my mom's side) several times growing up. The pizza was so good it made me actually like said family. Even my evangelical aunt was happy and better yet she forgot to talk about god for two minutes.
The cheese is so bright it's almost orange, and it's also so hot it practically slides onto your face when you take a bite. It's super sloppy, and super good. I want it now. I want then thin crust, the pipping hot cheese, and perfect sauce right now.

Blue Bottle Coffee Co.
Category: Coffee & Tea
Neighborhood: Hayes Valley
The only minus about this locale is having to wait in a long line outside in the cold. Said minus may not be so relevant when the earth is on it's way to self destruction and we're all wearing short shorts and grade 300 sun block. And when that happens I am sure blue bottle will make a mad good super duper iced coffee...hopefully they'll make a stellar frozen cookie too.
