Yellowstone Lake State Park may be relatively small (968 acres), but it still provides a nice getaway. You'll find what you need: water, hiking trails, spacious camp sites, and clean facilities.
An additional quirk regarding this park is th 4,000-strong bat population. Assembled in houses around the park, campers gather at dusk to see the bats begin their work (one bat at a time). While it isn't as cool seeing thousands of bats leave at once, it's still a fun thing to do before you head back to the site to enjoy a near-mosquito-free evening.
All in all, a trip to Yellowstone Lake State park is a good time. Try to keep it a secret, okay?

Thai Linda Cafe
Categories: Coffee & Tea, Thai
Neighborhood: Roscoe Village
Thai Linda isn't flashy but they do a great job with the food they serve. The quiet atmosphere makes for a pleasant dining experience and you always feel like you're the only diners in the restaurant (which isn't to say nobody dines in).
As I work down the menu, I have yet to find a dish I don't like...but If I could suggest a dish for you, I'd go with the eggplant. It's light, tasty, and satisfying.

Okay, before I turn an isolated incident into the crux of this review, I'll move on and say that after two and half hours between sitting down and getting my dinner, I wanted to hate the food...
Much to my chagrin, it was amazing. The food is too good to be spoiled by their struggles with handling a restaurant full of large groups. My pork dish was delicious. Their mixture of rice and beans left me wanting more and the various spoonfuls of other dishes I sampled were highly enjoyable. I definitely plan to head back to here some day, but as a relaxed romantic dinner for two (or three...*hey-ooh*).

Sushi Para II
Category: Sushi Bars
Neighborhood: Lincoln Park
Well, I'll have you know that Sushi Para goes one better by making all of your sushi to order. Sure, the fish is pre-sliced and sits covered in saran wrap at the chef station all morning...but at least the roll is 'fresh, ' right? Did I lose you there?
Anyway, either of the two meals (lunch and/or dinner) is a good value and while it's not the best sushi in the city, you'll find worse sushi at other buffets. Appetizers are made to order in the kitchen and the friendly staff will make sure you're never left waiting and wanting more food.

Sidekicks

A quick survey of the seating area makes you wonder if the place is a confused pizza parlor, but as soon as somebody mumbles the lyrics to Metallica's 'One,' you stop caring about the wood panels, or spanish style mirrors, and focus on the entertainment.
The drinks are reasonable, the staff is generally nice, and their inexpensive bar food goes great with the hefty servings of "nine women on stage screaming the lyrics to 'I will survive.'
Good times, my friends...good times.

Southwest Airlines
Category: Airlines
Neighborhood: University Village
I attempted to get on an earlier flight after checking in, and despite there being plenty of room on the flight I wanted to take, they cited a policy that would charge me the difference between my internet fee and a full price ticket (a difference of $170). Sigh.
I guess it's a good airline as long as you don't try to do anything for yourself.

Well, no. It's not right at all in this case. I pulled into the "Landing Strip" for a final fill-up only to discover that as of 9/28 I was paying $5.49 per gallon. Not really having much time to drive around I bit my lip and filled the half-tank I needed.
I did some internet research when I got back and learned that there are no Florida laws against not posting gas prices (they have no posted gas prices) and owners are allowed to charge what they believe the market price is. Upon further research I was unhappy to learn that there are more honest gas stations just a mile or two further away from the airport.
Man, talk about a big FU to tourists...

My White Castle lunch at Addison and Elston featured a short line, a very friendly staff, and an accurate order. The hamburger sandwiches were tasty enough to make me forget that I'm supposed to loathe the boiled beef. Throw in an order of fries and bonus chicken-rings means I walked away feeling like I had a satisfactory meal.
The restaurant was mostly clean (my table could have used a wipedown) and the white tables walls give it a bright, sterile feel. The place didn't make me feel as if I was in some sort of shady place like Hardees (oh snap).
I would definitely go back, but I'm in no hurry.
