Really, this is a surprisingly nice place to shop, considering the size of the town. They even have a Starbucks. However, it's really no different than many other Safeways.

It's got the same color scheme and feel of other stores, and the same prices, too.

If I'm being honest, though, I'm quite surprised--when comparing it to other similar areas--that it was so busy. I figured more people would be patronizing Roth's, seeing how he's more-or-less an area legend.

Meh. It's clean. And you can get halfway decent coffee. Why not?

Amid farm fields, planned houses, nondenominational Christian worship centers, and high schools that look like a blast from the past...there it stood...like an oasis in a desert.

Or a dessert, I should say.

Because that's why we go to DQ, right? Right.

The power that any Dairy Queen has over me and my coworkers is legendary. We've been known to take a solid 1.5 hour lunch simply to drive to one, eat, and drive back. Mostly in honor of the $4.99 chicken strip basket.

Which, by the way, is pretty unbeatable compared to the strips at ANY other fast food chain. DQ, though, has the competitive advantage because of their superior frozen dairy products.

In any case, to make a long story short, my weekend jaunt to Stayton was made complete by the shining lights emanating forth from this Dairy Queen. The staff was nice, my food was hot/frozen and delicious.

Next time...I'm tracking down that elusive Brownie Batter Blizzard. Yup.

Oh, Tualatin Dutch, how I've missed you!

See, there was about a six-month gap here where I had to stop enjoying the fruits of your hand-pulled labor. Starbucks made me depressed.

Thank God I'm back in Tualatin.

That said, y'all NEVER stopped being friendly. Every one of your morning baristas not only REMEMBERED me (and it'd been a solid seis meses), but asked why I fell off the face of the earth and if I wanted the regular.

Yes please!

Only my regular beverage now costs $2.25...I've switched regular bevs to reflect the debit card.

In any case, I'm thoroughly convinced that this place is the NICEST, most consistent Dutches ever! Yay!! I heart you!

    Woooo!

You have no idea how excited I was when I found out that there was a DB in the general vicinity of my work. No idea.

Today I'm really tired. I got little sleep (although it was well worth it to see Eels in concert!), and was feeling majorly deprived of my daily allotment of caffeine. Especially since I had none upon waking this morning.

I drove those five miles to DB just so I could savor the sweet goodness of my triple blended Milky Way. Heaven in a cup, I'm telling you. I could have gone just across the freeway to Starbucks, but I'm above that!

Anyway, I was super impressed with this location. When I drove up today, there were extra long lines on both ends of the drive-through. But these gals work fast!

Badda bing, badda boom, I was in-and-out (including line wait time) in less than five.

    How's that for five stars?

-------------MORNING-AFTER EDIT----------------

Josh was totally right when he said it was an interesting night. I feel like maybe that's an understatement.

We're talkin' Yeeps who were "Not Filthy" and/or dressed to the nines.

We're talkin' those SAME Yeeps gettin' blinded by the lighhhht [of the flash of my camera, and Josh's camera].

We're talkin' those SAME Yeeps gettin' blinded by the lighhhht [of the flash of my camera, and Josh's camera], and drinkin' some smashin' cocktails.

" ....and smackin' Ron's booty (see image).

" ....and attackin' people with balloons.

" ....and stickin' dirty nametags on one another (I never quite figured out who this Mike Hawk was that everyone was talkin' about).

" ....and winnin' some Maker's Mark (who DOESN'T love that whiskey, now?).

Okay, so I had to go eat some sushi afterward because those delicious DST snacks were gobbled up quicker than...than...than Kim V.'s witticisms (boo, you weren't there!), but I have fond memories of SWEATIN' TO THE OLDIES (okay, minus the music), downing those fauxito/julep whiskey thingers, and having a blast with all of you!

xoxo

-------------FIRST DRAFT----------------

Um, did this really just happen?

I *think* I took photos tonight.

Wait, here's a camera. Yes I did. (They'll be up soon.)

It was AWESOME seeing all my favorite Yeeps.

But what was even more awesome was those kickass and POTENT Maker's Mark cocktails. Long live that fauxito thing I had.

Um, I'm going to write an update tomorrow when I'm more...*with it*. Love you all!

DAG, DAG, DAG!!!

Esos burritos son muy grandes y deliciosos!

And you don't even have to speak Spanish to get this [relatively] authentic Mexican food!

I remember coming here a few years back right after I got back from Mexico. My friend wasn't impressed, but I didn't have any complaints about my Chile Colorado.

-----FAST FORWARD A FEW YEARS

Because it's close, I persuade the 'rents to grab dinner here, even though they swear up and down that they just don't like it.

The Tally:

Mother = Chicken Fajita Burrito
Father = Carne Asada Burrito (of course, he calls it "carna asada")
Me = Carnitas Burrito, light on the rice

We were all very, very pleased with our gut-bustingly huge burritos. My mom couldn't stop raving about her fajita burrito, even though it was dripping juices everywhere. My dad loves anything with beef. And I was thoroughly impressed with the non-fattiness of the pork, the deliciousness of the means, and the freshness of the pico.

BOMB. In. My. Mouth.

My mom now swears that this place just keeps getting better. I'm not sure if I've really registered a change, but they definitely haven't been hit-or-miss for us. And for the price, you've basically got two meals.

I'm sorry, but the quality and price literally TRUMP Muchas, and the only mini-complaint I have is that the hot sauce isn't really how I like it flavored. But I suppose that's really my deal.

AY CARAMBA.

You don't have to speak Spanish to understand *that*.

I have literally been dying to try this place. For ages.

So, pub crawl night comes, and what better night to sample the fare at the food carts? I'd been wanting to try some Poutine for a while now, but then I found out what was on it (not just sauce, but gravy and cheese curd), and my unadventurous palate, which also won't eat gravy, opted for a cone of fries instead.

My sister--the skinny, healthy counterpart that exercises (huh?) and eats barely anything--scoffed when I ordered a large. With Pesto Mayo (she wanted the Satay Sauce, but wouldn't pay another 50 cents). A few minutes later, I had one ginormous cone of crispy AND delicious fries.

The large was quite large, let's be honest.

"Hey, BBK, do you want some fries?" I ask my sister, pushing them in her face.

"Um, I'll have one or two. I'm not hungry. And I don't eat fries," she said with judgment in her tone.

She takes one, looking half nastified and sticks it in her mouth.

"Mmmmmmm!"

Yep.

From then on, I couldn't keep them out of her hand. She even ate that pesto aioli, and LIKED it. Granted, I liked them, too, and so did all of my Yelpy friends conglomerating near me. And in like three minutes, all of my crispy and delicious fries were sadly gone.

And if BBK loved them, then I can't be mistaken when I say these are damn good. Also, the people there were totally nice. NOM NOM NOM.

I am going to make a point to come back here. Poutine or not...I'll come...and so will my skinny healthnut sister.

I can admit it when I make a mistake...sometimes you have to try things twice.

That cherry pie Whiffies has? OH YES. Even my skinny-ass sister [who swore she wouldn't eat because she "wasn't hungry"] kept on taking it out of my hand because it was so good.

I think we're becoming like Weebl & Bob: http://www.weebls-stuf...

Oh yeah, I'll be back. (Savin' that last star for when I get to try the Salmon Chipotle pie.)

EVERYBODY (*coughAmadocough*) IS TALKING ABOUT WHIFFIES.

    Seriously.

I could practically leave my house, and hear the people walking by talking about this crazy delicious fried pies.

Maybe not (especially since my block isn't even that busy), but when all you're reading on Twitter and hearing from your friends is how you MUST try these DELICIOUS pies, well, clearly a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.

    So, I finally went there.

Don't maul me because I'm giving this place three stars after my 'xperience. I think that was earned, but I'll go back and see if they can knock my socks off.

First thing that went wrong? I assumed they would take debit. Or checks. You know. Even freaking Grilled Cheese Grill takes credit. WTF? Anyway, at Whiffies? None of the sort. They directed me, instead, to the nearest ATM. And because I'm curious enough in all this tomfoolery, I go and PAY that damn $2.50 ATM fee, and march back with my money.

Second thing that went wrong? They weren't serving cherry pie, which I'm 'sessed with. Tons of other fruit pies--lemon, blueberry, strawberry, and apple--but no cherry. Boo-hoozles. Settle on strawberry.

I stand around and wait, and get my pie.

    *ANTICLIMACTIC*

Yes, the crust was good. The strawberry goop inside, though, tasted more like saccharine-sweet jam, though.

And for $3 (and I'm freaking factoring in that ATM fee, too, so in reality $5.50)? I'm not sure if I'm going to be going out of my way to come here any time soon. That said, I'm pretty sure that this place would provide good drunk food. I'm a sucker for sweet, but I just didn't feel it. For now.

What?! We're reviewing UYEs again??!

Hit this shiz up!

One crazy li'l factoid: Several countries are taking Red Bull Cola off their shelves because it had been found that the energy drink contained trace amounts of cocaine.

One crazy li'l hypothesis: Gold Dust Meridian stalked up on the recalled product, and used it for their drinks...along with generous amounts of alcohol.

DK approves of this post.

And I'm pretty sure that the rest of the 20+ Yelpers do, too. Maybe not the customers who left the patio because we literally commandeered the entire area, but that's their loss. Join Yelp, people.

What's the secret ingredient in their drinks?

Crack!

Just kidding.

The real answer, though?

Lots and LOTS of alcohol.

To the point where I thought my vodka tonic was flat, but then both Olivia AND Don asked if it was flat or if it was the alcohol. After two (cheap HH) drinks, I knew it was the alcohol.

Dayemmmnnn!

They have a relatively small, but very comfy and accommodating patio area (it's even covered!), and their happy hour offerings combined with the stiff pours makes this a place I would be very happy to come back to. The jalapeno corn fritters were pretty much awesome-on-a-plate. Perfectly crisp with just a bit of mild spice at the end.

I can't really say the same about the artichoke-spinach dip. It had real potential, but the cream cheese base was really overwhelming. I heard praise for the mac-'n'-cheese, grilled cheese, and salumi plate. While I also heard some sort of conversation about the vocabulary surrounding mini gherkins, and what that strange ingredient was in the deviled eggs.

Surprisingly, too, I see this as a place where I'll definitely stick to the well drinks. I tried a few cocktails, and they were so stiff, It'd be difficult to drink them.

But I ain't complainin'!!!
