He raved about the Thai beef salad. That is his favorite dish and he said it is the best he has had in California. We ordered a Peruvian dish that actually looked better on the plate than it did on the menu. It started with a J and was various types of seafood friend in a tempura-like batter. (I question its authenticity.) It was light and delicious, but ultimately kind of boring. I did enjoy the combo fried rice that we ordered.

I haven't really had anything bad there, but I don't LOVE anything there either. I usually feel like I spent too much money.
As a parent, I have another complaint. Like the other reviewer, it took quite awhile before our server ever came to our table. With a nearly-two-year-old toddler, that is completely unacceptable. She was about ready to climb the walls because she wanted milk and food. Maybe CPK should have runners or bussers who can handle drink orders and bringing the bread to the table if the servers can't get there soon enough.

For $5.95 I got a chicken teriyaki bowl. It had chicken, teriyaki sauce, rice and some bean sprouts. It is perfectly adequate. No complaints. It's better than Yoshinoya, and closer to my office. Also, it was FAST.
I'm glad I didn't read the reviews first or I might not have gone. I actually wanted Chinese, but I was pretty disappointed with my last visit to Dragon Chinese in the same strip mall, so I thought I'd give this place a try to see if it's a better or cheaper alternative to Sansai. Verdict: it is certainly cheaper, but not better.
I'll come back again. I want to try the special next time. The special comes with steamed rice, chicken or beef teriyaki, shrimp and vegetable tempura, three pieces of California roll, sunomomo, and green tea ice cream.
There was a sign on the door saying they now accept credit cards. On the register, a little sign says $0.50 charge for debit, $10 minimum for credit.

Mama Rita's Authentic Mexican
Category: Mexican
I visited with a party of six on the first night of the relaunch. Two people out of our party enjoyed their entrees, the rest of us so did not. The best things on the menu were the blackened shrimp tacos (delicious and full of shrimp) and the carne asada with avocado butter (also delicious, but oddly served with a salad of field greens and some very pickled vegetables).
The rule of four seemed to apply to most entrees. My friend ordered the shrimp fajitas. He got four medium-sized shrimp. His wife ordered the tequila lime shrimp and also got four medium-sized shrimp. I ordered the steak fajitas and got four strips of steak. The final person in our party ordered the mahi mahi, which was cooked four times as long as it needed to be. In addition to being on the skimpy side, all of the dishes were completely lacking in flavor.
Mama Rita's used to have a very nice table salsa served with the chips. In their move to emphasize fresh, they left out the flavor there as well. The new salsa is a pico that contains absolutely no chiles whatsoever. Even I, who am a wimp when it comes to spicy anything, was dying for more spice in the salsa.
The only reason I didn't give them just one star is that the service was great last night (excepting the excruciating slowness with which our food arrived). I'm giving them a break on the two-hour wait because I am attributing that to the chaos of having the Kitchen Nightmares crew filming the staff's every move.
Laura, the owner, came over to talk to us after our meal and listened attentively to all of our feedback.
The bottom line is that I will give Mama Rita's one more chance. I believe that Laura will talk in all of Gordon's advice, all of the feedback from the customers, and really try to do the very best for her restaurant. One last chance and then it's onto the Boycott List. I'll wait a couple months, though.

This is another review that I have waited too long to post so I don't remember all the specifics, but I almost think it is better that way because I only remember the things that truly stood out.
I griped about the service to my husband but I don't remember why.
His chili colorado was weirdly electric in color, but he said it was delicious.
My chimichanga plate was also delicious, but definitely overpriced.
The empanadas are not empanadas. (We ordered the child plate.) It looks like an empanada and the filling is that of an empanada, but the casing (breading? dough? shell?) was more like that of a pupusa. It was disappointing.
Overall, I think everything was ok, though, and we'll probably try it out again.
(Pictures of all three dishes have been uploaded.)
1. All that Global Bazaar stuff and the special designer stuff can usually be found here because I guess the people in Camarillo don't like it. There is even stuff left once it goes on clearance.
2. Miguel at the customer service desk is always helpful and knows every single thing.
3. For some reason, at least some form of Crystal Light is always on clearance on an end cap.
4. You can usually find a decent parking space even when it is busy.
5. Today, when I went in there, a bunch of stuff I had just bought at Babies R Us was $1-$2 cheaper at Target.
A couple cons, but I didn't deduct stars for these:
1. The bathroom is usually unpleasant.
2. The last couple times in there, it seems like the temperature is too high. It could be because I am nine months pregnant, but I don't feel that way in other stores, so I think it is them, not me.

Oh, yeah, I ordered the fish and chips and thought it was good but pricey.
Don't sit in a booth if you need a high chair. Since the booths are raised, the do some jinky highchair stacking to put your kid up higher and it is not safe.
I said the crab cakes are delicious, right?

Three strikes and you're out Campos. You're on the boycott list now.
(I'm leaving the extra star because they have Orange Bang.)

I have given this place two chances and both times, the burritos I got were pretty blah. There was nothing inspiring about them whatsoever. I'm not sure why you would go to Campos when nearly every other Mexican place in Santa Monica is better.
It wasn't terrible. the salsa was really good, and they had Orange Bang (I love Orange Bang!), but that isn't enough to get me to come back.

They deliver and they might be the only Chinese restaurant in Camarillo that does so. They are at least the only ones that have a menu online, come up in a Google search, and deliver.
I have never been to Grand China and I am not really sure where it is, but the delivery is always on time and the food is pretty good. I appreciate that they deliver it in nice plastic containers, not those typical paper boxes.
Updated Jan. 2008:
Eh, the food is just ok. Not bad, not great. We'll still keep ordering from there until I find another Chinese place in Camarillo that delivers. (I took away one star.)
Date

My husband and I love going out to breakfast yet the only thing I ever see on the menu that appeals to me is the regular bacon and eggs breakfast.
Last night, the chicken tostada night, was the last straw for me. The place was deserted and the service was bad. Bad service on a slow night is completely unacceptable.
There really is no reason for me to ever go back. The only reason I didn't leave just one star is that I have certainly been worse places than this. I don't have to look too hard to find a better place, though.
