all great combinations--what can be better than a delicious freshly brewed cup of coffee (Philtered Soul or Jacob's Brew), friendly baristas, free wi fi  and a stack of books?

Fellow Yelpers Shoba and KP introduced me to this Polk Street oh-so- French wine bar.   Amelie gets points straight of the bat for co-opting the name of one of my favorite movies.  The $10 happy hour flight boosted it up even more.   Didn't get a chance to grab a table but I will surely be back.  Love the red decor and the cool vibe!

how is it that I've lived in this neighborhood for two months now, yet not stumbled across this little gem? Lucky for me that I have a friend who kindly steered me through the front door of this place.  Our server Kai was friendly and very helpful in helping us choose a great wine- the 2004 Arceno Primavoce Merlot-Cab.  It went perfectly with our roasted mushroom pizza.  Nice place to unwind or chill with soothing white walls and candlelight.  Definitely will be back to check out the weekday wine tasting happy hours!

I bought one of their hummingbird breathing fire hoodies at the Treasure Island music festival.  Wry, witty sayings coupled with stark design makes them a new favorite.  I checked their website and instantly fell in love with the  oh so proper crow looking for some Grey Poupon to accompany  his next meal.  Priceless!

I've been here twice and plan on coming back again and again.  Why? Well, for one thing, the wait staff of both sexes are quite easy on the eyes.  So while I'm scarfing , uh I mean daintily eating veggie dishes like Pad Tofu and the Snow pea shoots & shitake mushrooms, I'm also getting a visual treat.  Dinner date, what dinner date?? just teasing, my date was pretty cute too:)

Stumbled on this place while trying to find AC/shade during  a 94 degree Sunday afternoon.   After digging through the racks I found a really cute summery black dress that could double as a cocktail outfit as well as a reversible transformable wrap skirt that turns into a one strap dress.   Given time, I am sure I can figure out at least 4 more ways of wearing it.  The clothes and accessories in this store are similar to what you would probably find in some stores on Haight Street, but not as pricey.

Candybar

as  a self confessed sweet-a-holic, this concept is heaven sent. I'd been getting taunted by friends who had been to  Chikalicious for far too long- now it's my turn to boast of SF's dessert bar!

Went there with a group of yelpers (who beat me to reviews!) and settled in for a 4 course dessert fest. On the suggestion of the waitress, we ordered 4 dessert 'menus' and were able to get enough tastes of each dessert.

Highlights:

-One of the owners actually remembered my name from my calling for a reservation and came over to chat and ask us our thoughts.

-The ubiquitousness of blood orange, first in a baked alaska, then in a signature cocktail.

-Milk chocolate parfait with matzoh toffee and smoked salt. YUM YUM OMG YUM

- Quite possibly, the best nighcap of warm malted milk to end the meal that I ever had.  It was like a box of delicious creamy Whoppers candy melted into a glass of milk.

Needs Improvement

-As mentioned by other yelpers, the lighting is too bright.  If this is meant to be a lounge and evoke a mood, then please adjust the lighting accordingly.

-Warm drinks- none to be had and it was a chilly night. The waitress offered my friend a cup of hot water, but didn't have anything to add, not even a lemon slice. They're bringing Blue Bottle coffee soon, but even tea would have been nice to have.

I know Candybar has not been open very long, so I hope the owners work out some of the kinks soon . n general, I think it is a great addition to the NOPA neighborhood.

Good selection of pastries and cookies and sandwiches.  I ordered the red velvet cupcake but wasn't too impressed.  I'll have to come back to check out the pizza and other yelper-recommended items.

Cucumber rolls, avocado rolls and inari do not a veggie sushi menu make. Minako has pages and pages of veggie and vegan options that already have me planning on coming back to make my way through the menu piece by piece.   The veggie eel rolls  were definitely a highlight.   Quirky music, a waitress with decided opinions on what you should order (which turned out tobe helpful in terms of deciding portion sizes), and a dictate to please close your menu when you're ready to order rounds out this lil mom and daughter joint.

I'd bookmarked Fleet Feet ages ago but never went due to sheer laziness. But I finally headed it over to Chestnut Street today with old shoes in a bag. Chris was great.  He looked at my sad sorry shoes that I've been using and pulled out a bunch he thought I might like. He also measured my feet, watched me jog, and helped me pick out a brand new pair of shoes.  He even showed me how to tie the laces so they fit nice and snug.  I haven't had someone tie my shoelaces in years.  Oh and they will keep your shoe selections and other shoes that you liked but didn't buy on file, so even if you lose your shoes or lose your memory, it'll be available to you when you come in the next time.
