The line goes out the door, but it goes fast. Cash only.
This place sucks now. Sitting in a gas station (it's inside of a Shell store) eating great mexican food is one thing... but sitting in a gas station eating horrible mexican is another.
Something changed here, I'm not sure what. The people at the counter aren't friendly at all, and they act like you're inconveniencing them by placing your order... so don't bother. I know I won't.
6/8/09 Edit: Oh yeah, I finally figured out what this place smells like: ammonia. I didn't go back or anything, but just pinpointed the smell in my mind. Smelling ammonia while chomping down on D rated mexican food is my favorite!
Anyway, the turkey original on wheat is really all I come here for. It's a much better sandwich than quiznos, subway or togos (barf). Ingredients are fresh and the lettuce doesn't have that "taco bell lettuce" taste like the above places do. It's also what the place is known for... according to some factoid knowledge on their cups.
Their carrot cake is the business too.
I'd say this one is comparable with other TJ's I've been to, except this one has nearly 100% soccer moms. They will run you over to get their whole grain crackers or fresh fish, and when you come out to your car their SUV will be parked 1ft away from your car... so keep that in mind when you park (hint: park far, they tend to be lazy).
Anyway, I thoroughly enjoy TJ products. From their wine to their snacks, to their premade lunches, they really have it all. I come at least once a week and pick up what I need to eat as much as I can at home -- spending at least 25 bucks/visit.
The employees are friendly and I don't think I've come here when somebody wasn't stocking the shelves. There is often employees walking around looking for people to help, especially in the wine dept. I've been approached several times asking if I need assistance with choosing. I like that. It makes shopping much more personable and enjoyable.
What do you experience when you go to a place like Ralphs? Gah I hate shopping at Ralphs.

The Veggie Grill

I got the grilled chicken sandwich and didn't know it wasn't really chicken til I read Julie's yelp review.... hmm. Either way, it was good and very fresh tasting.
With the chicken sandwich I got chili because I'm not a huge fan of sweet potato fries (although they have salads too) and it was good. Not vegetarian tasting at all.
They have the most amazing teas too.
If they can trick someone who eats pork, chicken and steak (sometimes all at one sitting) into believing they are actually eating meat, they can definitely satisfy the hunger of the pickiest vegan (or vegetarian? I still don't know the difference) for sure - whether craving meat or veggies, or whatever it is you vegetarian (or vegan?) people eat.
I'll go back.

Like others have said, the prices are a little high, but if you use one of the coupons in one of the weekend/coupon mags it really makes it worth it.
Their produce didn't look so hot... but it's a meat place, and they do meat damn well.
They have a ton of fresh coffee too.
I'll be back for my next BBQ.
I'm not joking.

I needed some organic soil and organic plant food for a little home garden project I am doing, and found everything I needed with no problem. The people are really helpful and can point you in the right direction if you don't know what you're doing (like me).
They have little 'red ryder' like wagons to lug your items around in instead of shopping carts too. That alone makes it kind of fun. There's also this mom and pop feel to the place (whether or not it actually is a mom and pop place I couldn't tell you though). It's big, has a great selection and a ton of different items in each section.
Come late spring, I'll probably make another trip to this place because they have some truly beautiful plants for sale, and I'm sure the flowers and stuff will be off the chain.
Pricing is decent, and I found it to be comparable to everywhere else I went for stuff (namely home depot).
Three tacos, beans, rice and chips. One of each taco: Carnitas, Chicken and Beef. Limes. Salsa.
The quality of their meats is top notch. No other tacos compare; not Rubios', not Baja Fresh, not even Chipotle. Bomb.

This place is all right... But I don't think I've had my order correct here once though -- NO SOUR CREAM MEANS NO... SOUR... CREAM! NONE! NADA! STOP DRENCHING MY FOOD IN IT WHEN I SPECIFICALLY ASK YOU NOT TO!
Also, their chips don't come in a basket or a bag, they come on your plate... that means, if you got something with sauce, your chips are going to be drenched in the sauce and trying to use them to eat the salsa is pointless as they will be soggy.
On the plus side, their food is pretty good and tastes fresh if they get your order right. Parking at lunch is pretty shitty as all the yuppies are there trying to get their Mexican food fix... but that's expected for Irvine.
Three stars because their salsa is good (it better be, seeing as their restaurant is named 'the salsa').
I go here, but because there are no better Mexican food places that I know of in the area. If there were, I don't think I would come here. Food can get expensive here quickly -- bring your own water and save two bucks.
