Just as good as the east village location with more seating and an outdoor patio. I went in yesterday after a nice long bike ride. I had arepas last visit so I decided to go for pabellon criollo. I wish there were places to get pabellon criollo for less than the $14 it costs at Caracas, but the food and dining experience is so good there - who cares. Had a really enjoyable meal with good flan and cafe con leche to follow. Yum.

Calexico is the only food around my work that I can eat more than once a week without getting bored. The guys that work the cart are great and I have to give them full credit for doing something different where 95% of the food carts in NYC are serving up the same old dirty water dogs, pretzels and chicken and rice nonsense.
They're blasting twitter with the daily specials and any service outages http://twitter.com/cal... and it's clear that brian who runs the cart on Broome and Broadway takes pride in the business he (and his brother?) are building. Other cart and business owners should take a page out of calexico's book.

The Kati Roll Company

Kati Roll is ideal food for the end of a long night out. I've only had it pre-night out. It's a little on the greasy side for that.
Think of it as an indian burrito. They use a bread more similar to a paratha (rather than naan) which - is flour, water, and ghee or oil. Not sure what these guys use.
The fillings are pretty good on taste, but not the curry explosion that I crave when I have indian food.
Overall, if I'm in the area, I'd probably pick Kati Roll over Mamouns, though the price is a little steeper.

Tapas? Really people? Who tagged this as tapas. It's awesome Austrian food. I would venture to guess the best Austrian food in New York City. I don't know that I've ever seen another Austrian restaurant around.
My friend and I stumbled in here at around 9:45 pm on a tuesday night. We had great, friendly service... interesting cocktails, good beer. The food too... yum. Great liverwurst, spaetzle, and sausages. I think it was that I don't usually eat Austrian food. But, the quality of the food at Cafe Katja overcomes any concerns you have about the austrian diet. A must try.

Yelp Elite Event @ Bubble Lounge

Don't tell my old yelp friends in Boston, but that was the best Yelp Event I have been to -- ever.
There were some bad parts:
I didn't get to meet as many of you as I had wanted to.
I didn't have as many champagne mojitos as I had wanted to.
I didn't flash my chest for beads like I had wanted to.
But, I had a fantastic time.
It took me 6 months of living in NY to make it to my first elite event. I'll be seeing all of you again soon.

Rubin Museum Of Art

I went for the photography exhibition about mongolia. It was really fascinating to see pictures of yurts (mongolian equivalent of teepees). Overall, the rubin museum is not totally my cup of tea, but it's well put together and has a wonderful collection. I can appreciate that. Overall, I found the tranquility of the museum a really nice escape on a sunday afternoon from hectic new york. It's the closest thing to a vacation I've done in the city.

The Spotted Pig

Something about the spotted pig gets women sloppy drunk. Picture this... slurring older woman who was once hot approaches me and my friend while we're sitting at the bar waiting for dinner - no tables for an hour and a half on a friday night at 9. She looks at my iPhone (i'm no doubt using the yelp app)...
woman: "you like that?"
me: "i like it ok"
woman: "you live around here?" (is she trying to come home with me already?)
me: I live in soho - not far.
woman: it's nicer around here.
me: err... the buildings are ... different.
We decide to ignore her and she eventually hit on some other guys. She stumbles out a few minutes later and catches a cab.
My friend then proceeds to tell me about the last time he was at the spotted pig and he saw a drunk woman fall down the hole outside into the basement, climb back up and walk back into the spotted pig to join her friends. He asked her if she was ok. Clearly she was too drunk to feel anything.
The slurring older woman wasn't the last rowdy woman we noticed at the pig. They are everywhere!! And loving it.
There must be something in the water.

Caracas Arepa Bar

Pabellon Criollo is the best national dish ever created. It's like Cuba's ropa vieja except better. Rice and beans, shredded beef and sweet plantains. It's heaven. When I went to Caracas Arepa Bar, I had the Arepa version of pabellon - it was awesome. New York is obsessed with things like arepas... little dishes. If you're a man, forget the arepas. Just get a big plate of pabellon criollo and a negra modelo and you'll be happy. If you're a lady, go for the arepas.

Muqueca exists to set the…
The guy looked at me and said "Wow, you're really wet" - to which I replied "I heard your food was good". He smiled and handed over my combo plate of drunken food from heaven. I ate 1/4 of it waiting for the subway, another 1/2 when I got home, and the final 1/4 for breakfast.
This is the best value street cart in new york.
