This place is uber NYC (in all the best ways). Edgy and cool, but not too high on itself. Food is superb and understated. Wait is atrocious, but well worthwhile.

Come for the music... not the place. Depending on the act (which of course has little to do with the venue) it can be a great spot, but the bar is overly cramped, drinks aren't cheap enough to warrant that, and it's not set up particularly well. All in all a mediocre spot, but if you know a good band or performer is stopping in, it's not all bad.

I'm torn about this place, as the food was generally very good. The wait was a little long, but I guess that can't be held against them so my only other complaint was that the hostess (although she meant well I'm sure) was really awkward and uncomfortable. Seems petty - actually it is - but in fairness it is part of the restaurant experience to be welcomed and made to feel comfortable. Whoever was working that night wasn't mean or rude... she just made us all feel uncomfortable while waiting and being seated. Otherwise, no complaints. Great Belgian beer selection.

Duck meatballs are out of this world. Actually, all the food was great and the wine list is very well designed. A great experience, despite the "Top Chef" nonsense. You can even eat casually at the bar.

Wow... umm... where to begin...
Okay, well I really wanted to be generous and give this place a second star if only because I try not to be so harsh on first impressions. But I couldn't resist.
Long story short, unless you're into horrible creep-show "art" films (and I stress the quotations) that have no business being shown while you eat, avoid this place like the plague. On top of the fact that they failed to mention until we got there that they lost their liquor license, we had to pay a $5 cover and then consequently sit through the most uncomfortable, horrific, monstrosity of an excuse for "filmmaking" I've ever seen (and I was a film major so that's saying something!) for over an hour and half. It was some insane experimental Korean shit show that made it impossible to even stomach my food.
In fairness, there is a portion of the front of this place with a few tables a (unused at the moment) bar which seemed fairly quaint. But the "performance room" was potential the most horrific dining experience - if I could even call it that - of my life, and I've never been happier to leave a restaurant.

Wo Hop Restaurant

This is the best grimy Chinese food there is. Don't expect ambience, and don't expect originality... it's just generic Chinese. But for what it is, Wo Hop is the best around. There's a fair chance of you leaving feeling like you bathed in brown sauce, but other than the fairly, um, "unkempt" feel, this place is delicious.
Also, since it seems to be a trend to claim its a tourist trap, Wo Hop is CHEAP. Tourist trap implies somehow overpriced for what you get and I assure you its quite the opposite... great food and really cheap.

Son Cubano

Ropa vieja is second only to Asia de Cuba, and the empanadas were great. All pretty much can't miss (or so you'd hope) in a Cuban place, but just the same the food was very good.
But the food isn't why you come here... come for the atmosphere. It's almost impossible not to have a good time. Great music, good vibe.
To be honest though, I know it's (supposedly) the little sister restaurant, but I liked Flor de Sol better!
