Stopped down after seeing Spinal Tap at the Paramount.

Solid burger, huge and well put together, great with the grilled onions. The cocktails are vodka heavy and a little sugary.  Definitely would come back for a beer and burger.

Heaven's Dog is possibly serving the best cocktails in San Francisco right now.

What to expect? Classic inspired cocktails from Charles Baker's book, Jigger, Beaker and Glass. Also, my favorite way to order drinks is to pick a base spirit and let the bartenders go nuts. Whether it's Jenn Colliau making the perfect Trader Vics Mai Tai or Jackie Patterson doing her version of a Vesper, you're bound to be happily boozed in no time.

Came down here for an early preview of their cocktail menu and was treated to some top notch service from GM Aaron, head bartender Jake and bartender Shira. We tasted through the entire menu, 8 cocktails and small bites that push hard on the crave button. The chickpea fries were light and crispy, the tartare was fresh and meaty delicious and the fried asparagus was cooked just right, al dente.

Midi has been added to the happy hour rotation.

This company uses GPS to track it's rental cars without telling it's customers (http://www.hulu.com/wa...). Shady, shady, shady!

A Cote

Solid small plate French bistro in Oakland with a fine bar. Stopped in for a early dinner at the bar on Friday night. Overall the cocktails and wine were well crafted and the food quite good for bistro french in Oakland. The service was a bit spotty and slow and they forgot one dish entirely so if you're a nitpicker, holster your sixshooter.

The booze list:

The wine list at A Cote is exciting if you're into fairly obscure grape varietals and high acid food friendly wines. They list their wines by the bottle by varietal from A-Z (Asprinio to Zweigelt) and the prices and markup are very reasonable, probably 2 to 2.5x with our $80 Diel Pinot on the high end and most bottles in the $35-$55 range. On the list you'll only find three California wines which is less than the number from the former USSR. Also, although they thankfully didn't present it, they have a cellar selection list of more expensive and rare wines including some very nice bubbly, 1995 Le Mesnil that will only put you back $300. How's that for helping the economy!

Dosa on Fillmore

Category: Indian
Neighborhoods: Pacific Heights, Japantown

Came down to Dosa to check out the bar and Johnny Raglin's cocktail list and immediately I knew that this place will see too much of my hard earned dough in the coming months.  If you haven't been to Dosa in the Mission, then you've been missing out on the best south indian grub in SF. So now you've got no excuse with two locations, a full bar and lunch starting next week.

The space was formerly a Goodwill, and hopefully this won't sound too Scrooge-like when I say, "Good Riddance."  The double-decker dining room with 30ft ceilings is the South Indian cousin to Nopa on Divis. If you don't know Nopa, then shame on you.

The cocktails are Indian inspired and solid in a classic way. They could stand their own on any fine bar menu in SF.  I tried the Bowler and the Batsman, both excellent but I favored the Bowler. It's a pisco-based cocktail with "Hell Flower" tincture and a mango gastrique served up with a twist of lime. It's a spicy delicious culinary cocktail that wakes you up and readies the palate.

I look forward to cocktails and lunch at the bar starting next week.

Epicenter Cafe

Neighborhood: SOMA

Epicenter is a SOMA surprise of a coffee spot. 4th St next to Whole Foods and so not much of a destination, however once you try the coffee you'll quickly see why this will become a landmark. The dedication to perfection is clear and present with everything they do from the salads to pastries to the espresso and coffee.

So here comes the disclaimer: I grew up next door to Mark, the owner, and he has been plying me with his experimental espresso's and cappuccinos for years. Each year the day after Christmas is regularly filled with  three or four hours of caffeine overdosing. Epicenter is the home of a great deal of built up passion and hard work and love of the dark bean. Go down and experience it for yourself.

Sushi Bistro

Purely on the quality of the fish on a Monday night, this place is up there in the pantheon of SF sushi. Look for the Butterfish in its many incarnations on the menu as well as the sashimi salad. The menu is deep and entertaining and the sake list reliable. If it's packed, look next door to Namu as a healthy second choice. This has quickly become my favorite block in the Richmond.

One of the my favorite restaurants in the SF. Charming owners Lorella and Massimiliano work every night to bring you authentic Sardinian cuisine and service. I've had so many fantastic dinners here that I would give it the elusive 6th star. Must try if you're visiting or live in the city. The wine list is one of the best around for Italian wines and I've yet to get a bottle that didn't have a great story and a reasonable price. Given that Massimiliano is a sommelier who worked for Italian importer Winebow, it's not a surprise but the wines are surprisingly excellent.

Must try dishes: Spaghetti with freshly shaved Bottarga, Wild Boar Stew, Seasonal Soups, brussell sprouts, desserts (esp. house gelato's), pizzas.

Came here for brunch today. Very relaxed, fairly reasonably priced French restaurant. The French bread was a highlight, and my crabcakes with poached eggs on top did the trick. The espresso drinks were pretty much crap and the pain au chocolat which came highly recommended was a mushy mess. If you're in the hood, it's not a bad choice, but otherwise take a hike down to Foreign Cinema.
