What to expect? Classic inspired cocktails from Charles Baker's book, Jigger, Beaker and Glass. Also, my favorite way to order drinks is to pick a base spirit and let the bartenders go nuts. Whether it's Jenn Colliau making the perfect Trader Vics Mai Tai or Jackie Patterson doing her version of a Vesper, you're bound to be happily boozed in no time.

The booze list:
The wine list at A Cote is exciting if you're into fairly obscure grape varietals and high acid food friendly wines. They list their wines by the bottle by varietal from A-Z (Asprinio to Zweigelt) and the prices and markup are very reasonable, probably 2 to 2.5x with our $80 Diel Pinot on the high end and most bottles in the $35-$55 range. On the list you'll only find three California wines which is less than the number from the former USSR. Also, although they thankfully didn't present it, they have a cellar selection list of more expensive and rare wines including some very nice bubbly, 1995 Le Mesnil that will only put you back $300. How's that for helping the economy!

The space was formerly a Goodwill, and hopefully this won't sound too Scrooge-like when I say, "Good Riddance." The double-decker dining room with 30ft ceilings is the South Indian cousin to Nopa on Divis. If you don't know Nopa, then shame on you.
The cocktails are Indian inspired and solid in a classic way. They could stand their own on any fine bar menu in SF. I tried the Bowler and the Batsman, both excellent but I favored the Bowler. It's a pisco-based cocktail with "Hell Flower" tincture and a mango gastrique served up with a twist of lime. It's a spicy delicious culinary cocktail that wakes you up and readies the palate.
I look forward to cocktails and lunch at the bar starting next week.

Epicenter Cafe

So here comes the disclaimer: I grew up next door to Mark, the owner, and he has been plying me with his experimental espresso's and cappuccinos for years. Each year the day after Christmas is regularly filled with three or four hours of caffeine overdosing. Epicenter is the home of a great deal of built up passion and hard work and love of the dark bean. Go down and experience it for yourself.

Solid burger, huge and well put together, great with the grilled onions. The cocktails are vodka heavy and a little sugary. Definitely would come back for a beer and burger.
