The bartenders there are fantastic and know how to pour one hell of a drink.
I have only eaten there a few times because i'm relatively poor but I have never had any complaints about the food and the service there is better than I have had in many other more "upscale" restaurants in the city.
Believe it or not you have to try the fresh baked rolls they have one that has cream cheese backed inside and another with jalepenos.
Thurs through sat they have Dj's its a great start all night or end of the night place. Cover varies usually 5 bucks and thats to pay the DJ's.

The staff and atmosphere of this patio bar is one of the best in the city in my humble constant bar hopping opinion.
This is a great spot to start out the night have a bite to eat or hangout for a cool relaxing evening by the roman fire urns... Yes Fire Urns.
They allow for guests of the bar to take a dip in the pool without having to be guests of the hotel or at least they did when they have the Sunday day parties last year.
Theres something about hanging out for the day drinking mojitos by the pool!!
I can only say drop in...check it out for the night or if they start up the sunday pool parties its worth it.
They even have a kitchen thats pretty good if you feel the need for a bite and cabanas if your having a large party.
So back to the here and now.....
Basic is a hip spot with a relaxed dress code a wide range of things going on..
local artist showcases on tues nights
DJ's Fri and Sat
A packed house when the Padre's are in town
No cover mostly and when/if there is... its minimal.
The salad the is GREAT!! candied walnuts with pear slices and a sweet vinaigrette that can easily feed 2 -4 people for 8 bucks!!
The kitchen stays open till Midnight on most days
And the tournament size pool table is free.
And the kicker......
Free Pizza for Happy Hour 4-6 Mon through Fri as long as there isn't a game.
You know what after writing this they earned their 5th star.
I highly recommend stopping by there and trying it out.
Oh did I mention the topping selection for the pizza is great!!
The staff there are great, very friendly.

So we have all run into this problem its 11 oclock and were having company and we are quickly running out of booze and all the stores are closed!! WTF?? this is where you go so... 7-11 only has beer NOT SO!!
So this wondrous store not only has beer and wine but alcohol as well! Granted it may not be the highest end stuff but really if your going to keep drinking after 2am and are at a party full of other folks with the same intention, no one cares.
And with its relative closeness to downtown not hard to get to. Just don't go running the stop lights in front of the downtown police division getting there. That would be the weird looking 3 story blue building on 14th street.

Well last night was my third time visiting the place so I think I can write a pretty fair review.
This place has an all star cast of staff. The GM launched the SD Beauty Bar, 2 of the bartenders I know from the downtown club scene and they have a whole Bevy of cocktail waitresses and a cool security staff what more can you ask for.
The venue itself has a good size and good sound for all kinds of fun nights from Mechanical Bull Riding Mondays, great bands (local and not so much) on weds to Reggae on Sundays with the Tribe of Kings SD's number one Reggae Production company in the city. It has a neighborhood bar feel with the wide variety of attendees that you could find anywhere. Dressed up or dressed down this is a great bar to hang out any day of the week. Pool table and booths are definitely an added bonus!!

And he's doing a great job as well. This is one of the only places downtown to get yourself some vinyl or find out whats going on around the city. The store supports many events around the city for example East Village Art Walk and Bar Basics Tuesday night art shows. Pop in and check it out. Tell Mark I said Hi.
