Mimi's Cafe
Categories: French, Breakfast & Brunch, Burgers
Mimi's definitely has a nice place on my family's list of favorite restaurants. Their menu has a good assortment of different meals that's sure to be appealing to many different tastes. The service here is absolutely spectacular--the waiters and waitresses are very polite and on top of things, plus they seem to have some kind of magic ability of knowing right when you finish your drink and want a refill. The restaurant can get quite busy (and, as such, a bit louder) on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, so you might want to come a bit early and be prepared to wait for a table to clear up on those nights. (Weeknights, however, are not quite as crowded.) Regardless of the day of the week, however, Mimi's is a great restaurant to go for good service, great food, and a very filling meal. In fact, be prepared to ask for some take-out boxes at the end--chances are you won't be able to finish what's on your plate!
I've probably recommended Jeffrey's Hamburgers to more people than any other food restaurants put together. After my first experience there six or seven years ago, I've always loved going there and have gone there many times a year, and my waistline has probably suffered because of it.
Their burgers are real gourmet burgers, which they cook exactly to your liking. As someone who fancies thoroughly cooked meat, I've yet to get a burger from them that hasn't been "well-done" to my liking. Their french fries are absolutely delicious, served old-fashioned style in a basket, and get this: they actually taste like potatoes! They're lightly salted, unlike those fast food french fries which probably have salt as the main ingredient.
But you have not tried anything until you've tried their milkshakes. They offer milkshakes in vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry, and you can get them malted for 30 cents extra. They serve them to you in a tall glass with lots of whipped cream and a cherry on top, plus give you enough extra milkshake to completely refill the glass and then some. They make by far the best shakes I've ever tasted, and it's a treat that's totally worth the $3.59.
Their prices are a bit expensive, and I tend to end up spending $10-$12 just on myself, but their food is delicious and filling. I tell my friends from around the country that whenever they're able to come to the Bay Area, I'm taking them out to Jeffrey's.
