My wife had the worst experience there. The pictures she ordered for our son's teacher were printed the incorrect size and when she noticed, went back in to tell the employee he was rude and condescending and sarcastic. She asked for the owner and Mr Rude himself proudly claimed he WAS the owner. Wow what terrible service. In these days when we all can and do print our pix online this guy had no clue how to run a neighborhood Breentwood business; one that by the look of things will never survive.

For those of you who actually "need" a bank, it is getting harder and harder to actually have a choice. Comerica stood out to me because it was a name that was NOT Bank of America, Wells Fargo or Washington Mutual. That was enough for me to want to take a look. They specialize in business banking, and as it turned out, I have a business. They did a good job of making promises about service and fees and pride themselves on truly charging NO FEES for anything. They even boast that they will pay ATM fees of OTHER banks if you use their ATM. Pretty cool. The only reason for the lacking of 1 star is as it turns out, you need to really keep a close eye on them, because you can get everything they promise, but you really need to watch and, how should I say, remind them, of the agreements and promises that they make. Also, in the beginning, they came to pick up deposits from us. What amazing service. Once we became a client for a month, they mysteriously don't have the staff to send a person over to pickup a deposit.
You wonder if local news is dead. I mean with the Internet, television and radio, do people still read the newspaper, let alone a paper or magazine that is geared towards a certain geographic area? According to the top dog's at the Brentwood News at Westsidetoday, people do. Jeff Hall has been the editor and chief for the lifespan of this paper, which also publishes 5 other magazines in the area. If you want information on the Westside of Los Angeles, this is the magazine you reach for.
I've never been to a Jiffy Lube before. I will be the first to admit that. I pull the car up, and walk into the little waiting area. It smelled like they spilled about 15 cans of oil all over the place - maybe they do that to make it seem like an authentic garage, I don't know. I saw a sign for a special for oil changes for like $29 or something, Tuesday and Thursday? which immediately made me feel stupid for coming on Monday. I went through. After 20 minutes they assured me out, showed me a few filters and said, I also should get one of these because "look what you are breathing" in the car. Well, $106.00 and I was done. After about an hour and a half.

The one thing about shoe shopping that bugs me (no there are MANY more than one thing) is that I get guilt. I feel like if I try on a pair of shoes, I need to buy them, or at least buy something. Try on two or three pair and forget it - I gotta buy something or I can't live with myself. I mean those poor working folks having to bring me shoe after shoe and deal with my smelly feet? (not really, I hope) These folks were friendly and were very no pressure. I tried on a few pairs of shoes and guess what, didn't buy but didn't feel guilty either!

Upham Hotel

I like it, I love it, I want some more of it! I went to this delightful little gem for a wedding. No, the wedding wasn't AT the hotel, but that was where we all stayed. It truly was like no other hotel I've stayed at. Forget room service and electronic check-in's at this joint. It was like going back in time. An actual KEY to our room, can you imagine that? A large outside sitting area with lounge chairs to rest in, breakfast in the morning and milk and cookies at night. What can I say, this place was truly enjoyable.
Can you imagine, there are literally two Starbucks within 1 block of each other? You can sit at one and see the other! Whoola. This place was clean, full of fresh goodies and the staff was friendly. The store manager was even there to greet me, thanks Vilma.

If you have kids, and you like sushi, then this place is for you. The food is great, and can I tell you that the place is usually 50% kids under 10 years old. But don't worry adults because they put the adults in one part of the restaurant, near the sushi bar, and the ankle bitters elsewhere. Works out great! They just raised their prices on, well, everything, thus the 4 star only.
