The Vintage

Categories: Fondue, Breakfast & Brunch, Burgers

4 star rating
 Update - 1/10/2009
Don't be fooled by the four stars I've given them, the Vintage is definitely on the cusp of getting three.  I've been dining at the Vintage for some time now, and I have to say that I've noticed a decline in the level of service lately.  Not only are wait times for a table becoming longer and longer, but there are usually no seats available for those waiting.  Let me tell you, standing in front of the bathroom door does not do much for my appetite.  In the warmer months, which in Oregon are severely limited, tables are turned over a bit faster because they are able to seat people on the patio out back.  I would recommend anyone going there ask to be seated on the patio - it's better than sex, from what I hear.  (Wait... did I just slam myself?  Your task to judge whether or not I'm kidding.)

I've found the best nights to go are Tuesday and Thursday nights.  On Tuesdays alcohol is half off and Thursdays offer an $8 burger and brew special.  What makes this burger and brew so unique is that it comes with TWO (2) beers!  The savings offered pay for your meal!  (Keep in mind that a burger purchased any other day of the week will also cost you $8.)

The drinks at the Vintage are always well made, in my experience, and when they're not busy the servers really do take the time to make sure you have a good experience.  This being said, service seems to always be a bit slow - whether or not they're busy.  Let me tell you, there's nothing worse than seeing your mixed drink sitting on the bar 6 feet from you waiting to be delivered by a server.  It really is enough to drive a man insane with anticipation.

American Express was originally not accepted, but I believe they take them now.

Just voted "Best New Restaurant (2006-2007)" by the Eugene Weekly (http://www.eugene...), The Vintage is quite the popular spot.

I don't really know why it's called the Vintage - it is a new restaurant after all.  It's located in an old (vintage) house and has an intimate feel to it.  We overheard our waitress explaining to another couple that one of the cooks wasn't in, so food was taking a bit longer to be prepared.  I have to hand it to her, she was still very calm and friendly towards all the customers.

The crepes, of which they are known for, are quite delicious (and only $8.00).  I had the Veggie Delight, even though I usually hate the term "veggie delight."  They actually had a very good salad, which some sort of house mystery dressing - quite good though.

I hate to say it, but this place doesn't stand out in my mind as anything fantastic.  The originality of the menu is certainly something that discerns it from it's competitors.  I'm going to have to try their fondue (which is only available after 5pm).  American Express is not accepted.

Pretty affordable sushi if you ask me - and prepared quickly.  I prefer it for lunch rather than dinner though.  At lunch it's much more laid back and you can move at your own pace.  During dinner I feel that they are more interested in turning over tables.

Frequently empty, sometimes smells of body odor, more creepy people than you can shake a stick at, and hit or miss DJs.

Still worth a visit though, because it can be a hell of a lot of fun - it really is what you make it.  The staff and patrons (for the most part) are all pretty friendly too.

I saw the perfect messenger bag here and bought it tax-free (because I'm from Oregon, and we're exempt if we remember to mention it to retailers).  Apparently I wasn't the only one who loved my bag because it got stolen from me.  My replacement is on it's way.
Really helpful staff here, and they're friendly too!

I wish I had given this place a try long ago!  A friend and I came here after reading repeatedly that it's great when one is stuck with a hangover.  It was a Sunday morning at about 11:30 and we were greeted with quite the line outside.  It moved pretty quickly and the service was friendly.  In about 10 minutes, we were seated and immediately have coffee poured.  It was pretty typical diner coffee, but what can one really expect?  The breakfast options were also the average, and quality of our meals was fair.  Why then am I giving this place a four star review?  The ambience - they don't care how long you sit and chat.  It's nice to feel to welcome somewhere even when you feel (and look) like shit.

A friend of mine and I had gone antique shopping all day.  Her for a dining room table and me for a cupboard.  We both ended up finding what each of us were looking for right here.  And cheaply too!  If memory serves we went when all furniture was 25% off: making my cupboard only $60!

I love the pizza here.  Not as much as I love Mezza Luna's, but still: I love the pizza here.  Also, there's a Pac-Man table (of which I have the high score thank you very much), making it the perfect place to grab a slice.
Some of the booths are really odd though - you sink into them, making you feel like a 7 year old.

Perfectly enjoyable.  One of the things I really do dislike, though, are the tacky chairs.  They look like those cheap dining sets you buy in a box and assemble yourself.  You know, "pine" chairs with white paint and veneer.  They do, however, have a shot called the "KGB" - which is something I really recommend and enjoy whenever I come here.
