We also had an order of the spicy fried chicken which was the same as the fried chicken just coated in a sweet hot sauce. On the grading scale the dish got a B-.
The salad bar was anemic, but the rice was a great touch.
This is a come as you are chicken joint with a Korean twist. Prepare to eat with your hands (and get a little messy.)

Anchor Oyster Bar

Awesome waiter move no. 1 - We all got small servings of the clam chowder (on the house!) served to us outside to help keep us warm.
Awesome waiter move no. 2 - Once we were seated, he placed an order of their terrific (and warm) garlic bread on the table to help us warm up (again on the house!)
We agreed to share the Caesar salad and each ordered an entree from the daily specials (unfortunately my companions were not oyster fans - poor planning on my part.) The Caesar was excellent and the dressing was obviously made on site. We all noted a taste of horseradish which really livened up the salad.
We shared entrees and they were all fantastic. I had the breaded scallops, with vegetables, potatoes and homemade tartar sauce. Cooked perfectly, the scallops were tasty and the home made tartar sauce pushed them over the top.
Service was top notch.
Food was amazing.
Will I go here again? Absolutely.

Izzy's Steaks & Chops
Category: Steakhouses
Neighborhood: Marina/Cow Hollow
My Fliet Mignon has always been cooked perfectly medium rare. Add two sides (Izzy's potatoes and creamed spinach are the best in my book) and you have a very filling meal for under $30.
Wine selection and prices are on par for an SF steakhouse.
The dark interior wood and impressive bar let you know you are in a steakhouse.
Consistency and price make Izzy's a top choice.

Levende Lounge

The food was good. It was really good. I had the biscuits and gravy which comes with two eggs. The sausage gravy was tasty without being greasy, the biscuits were flakey and they cooked my eggs perfectly over easy. I shared a side of bacon with another member of our party. $2.50 got us only three pieces of bacon. I will admit it was some of the best bacon I have had, but $2.50 seems a little steep for three slices.
Note: In my book quantity does not equal quality. The portions here are not large, but the food is good. Some in our party felt they were on the small side, but I was very satisfied when I walked out the door.
Other dishes that received good reviews from our group included the French toast and the egg white omelet.
I have yet to try Levende for dinner, but I would definitely recommend their brunch.

Beaks Old Florida Tavern and Restaurant

The food was good, but the four star rating is not for food alone. The restaurant itself is... Authentic. The main dining room is inside, half bar, half tables. Then there is the patio which again is half bar, half dining, and then there is an outside deck, all tables. The walls are covered in... Stuff. Signs, music posters, neon lights are all part of a decor that screams old St. Pete. There is also a stage for live music.
So far I have only been to this place for lunch on the Dec 26, so my review is probationary, but I have a feeling this place is jumping on a Fri or Sat night and will update me review once I have the chance.
"El Cap."
We inhaled two burgers each, two baskets of fries and a couple beers. Their fries are average, but that is not why we go there. El Cap burgers are big, sloppy, once-you-pick-it-up-you-cannot-put-it-down, greasy, awesomeness. I like the cheeseburger, he likes the regular burger.
They used to be known for their fried grouper sandwich which I loved but recently there has been a crack down on mislabeled fish and the El Cap sandwich is not tilapia. I bet it is still good, but if I only get to go here once a year, my money is on the cheeseburger.
Oh, and notice I said, we go there 'after' other activities. Once you have completed you meal expect a food coma to hit like a semi-truck full of bacon grease sliding down the butter highway, but it is one of the best naps you will ever take.
Two words pop into mind - Consistently Good.
The fare is Mexican, but with a modern and slightly upscale twist, but the prices remain low ($10-$16).
On my most recent trip I had the Avocado Cactus Enchiladas and they were terrific. The ingredients are fresh and not overcooked but the star was the cilantro pesto.
A year ago I had the Grilled Santa Maria Tri Tip. This is the entree that keeps me coming back. The use of cumin creme fraiche really separates this dish from anything else on the menu.
Oh and the margaritas - Well they speak for themselves. Nothing blended, all on the rocks. This is a great starter in the mission.

Herbivore
Categories: Vegetarian, Vegan
Neighborhood: Mission
My friend and I hit Herbivore for lunch and shared the spring rolls and taco appetizers. The tacos were brilliant, the spring rolls, average (hint - add salt).
For lunch I had the wasabi soba noodles. It was good, but didn't taste much like wasabi. My friend had the portabella mushrooms over polenta and it was served luke warm at best.
That being said, I would like to try some more meals here before giving them less than three stars.

Noe Valley Deli

The prices are fair and the portions are large. They have a decent drink cooler, but they are overpriced (over $1 for a can of soda.)
Their house salad is unremarkable except for the size - it is large.
Also recommended are their giant deviled eggs, but after such a large sandwich, not many folks will have room.
One complaint is that they do not stay open late, but this is more of a lunch spot.
Date

The food was terrific. We shared six plates and raved about each of them. A couple of highlights are:
- Shaved Asparagus (served as a salad)
- Calamares (not fried) and
- Albondigas (lamb and pork meatballs).
The wine was good, and seemed reasonably priced.
The staff was nice, knowledgeable and brought our food out at a leisurely pace allowing us to enjoy the meal.
On the whole I was very impressed that this new restaurant seemed to run like they had been open for years. Bring friends so you can try as many plates as possible, and expect to have to wait for a table. From what I have heard, this place has been very popular and there's usually a wait.
Enjoy.
