Newport Aquarium

 Update - 6/24/2009
We went again recently and I am up in the air about this aquarium.  The price went up again, it's now $20 per adult.  I ended up buying memberships because they're $38, so one more trip and they're paid for.
Most of my original complaints still stand, but the newer additions help.  The new Jellyfish gallery is wonderful!  The frog bog is pretty cool too.

When Newport Aquarium opened it was amazing!  Over the years all the things I loved about it have changed or disappeared.  The once colorful reef is now brown and dead looking.  They used to be good about the tank labels, but the 2 times I've been there this past year they either had labels for things that weren't there or things without labels. My favorite fish were bumblebee goby (label still there, but fish long gone), wolf eel (gone), cuttlefish (gone), porcupine puffer fish (still there), lookdown (still there), flashlight fish (gone), arowana (gone).
I agree with other reviews that it is too expensive.  When I loved the place and went multiple times a year, the pass was worth the cost.  A single ticket used to be $13 now it's $19, which is unreasonable.  I think it's gone downhill, but the prices keep rising.  I haven't seen the new frog bog yet and maybe kids or people who don't visit too many aquariums would like it.

We ate here several months ago due to a http://restaurant.com certificate and recommendations of friends on http://twitter.com.  We were completely disappointed.  The prices were outrageous.  With the certificate discount the cost became tolerable.  The service was slow despite hardly any people (on the part of the wait staff not food arrival).  The food wasn't interesting and the portions were small for the price.  We'll never return.

Loving Cafe has my favorite salad dressing ever.  I'm not a big salad person, but I could eat their salad every visit.  I recommend the sloppy Joe to a non veg/vegan, it is really tasty!  I have taken my manager here three times and she's liked everything she's had (she isn't veg or vegan).  On Saturday's they have specials.  One visit my boyfriend got a sweet and sour chicken type meal (special on a Saturday).  He thought it tasted pretty believable. They also have smoothies and great cookies and cake.

We stopped here before heading to the Wolf Park in Battle Ground, IN (we're from Cincinnati, OH).  I got bibimbap with tofu instead of meat & my boyfriend got a couple of tofu rice triangles.  Both were really great, fresh, fast and reasonably priced.  The rice triangles were really tasty, I want to try to make rice triangles at home!

After hiking all around Natural Bridge area we stopped here for lunch.  We got a large extra cheese pizza with multi-grain crust  for around $10.  It was yummy and fast.  The decor is all the climbing stuff they sell.  The booths are benches from a school bus, I think.  They had many other items to order like hoagies, salads, wraps (I think).  They had hummus and other veggie friendly items.  You could even order cheese-less pizza.

They are now opened in a new location where the Jalapenos was and before that Don Pablos.  We went on the second day they were open so I may update this.  The result of our dining experience wasn't much different from when they were at their old location, so maybe I won't have a better review later.  A majority of the space is hibachi tables, which it appears many prefer.  I personal would rather have real Japanese food, thank you very much. (Yes I am cocking an attitude about it)
The high ceilings leftover from Don Pablos make the sound carry considerably.  The normal seating area is a small corridor of 2 seat booths on one side and 4 seat booths on the other with the hibachi area over the wall.  All you can hear is the clanking of plastic bowls and metal spatulas on the hibachi grills.  We ordered Agedashi tofu which was just tempura tofu unlike other versions I've had.  We also got three sushis: veggie roll, asparagus roll and cucumber roll.  All of which were the smallest versions we've ever had and the most expensive too.
They used to have various soups such as Udon and they used to have Teriyaki tofu, but both of those are gone. (I even asked about them)  Basically, they are now another Benihana.  This may please some people, but I like real Japanese food, so I HATE it.  It's a bad deal if you get sushi and other than hibachi you have nothing to choose from.
Downgrade.
They had 2 critical health inspection violations. (I took the link down because it no longer worked)

We were going to eat at Myra's Dionysus, but they were closed for a week (labor day holiday).  So, we were driving away trying to think of where else to go and saw Krishna Indian take out.  We'd heard people recommend it, so we stopped in.  It looks like it used to be a Subway restaurant with the large bar/counter and booths on the opposite wall.  You order at the counter and sit back down.  If you want water they give you a styro cup and you pour your own from pitchers in the cooler.  The food comes to you scalding in a styro take out container.  I had paneer makhani, which was creamy and flavorful.  There was enough to save some for lunch the following day, and it was still delicious!  I will eat there again.

I have never been to their actual bakery/restaurant, but I have had their deserts in restaurants and elsewhere.  My ex-boyfriend's Mom used to buy a whole opera creme cake for people's birthdays.  You can buy their deserts at Jungle Jim's International market and some restaurants around town, such as Myra's Dionysis.

I don't go here enough.  I worked here when it opened and saw so many interesting films.  I am glad it's still here, but I am so out of the smaller film loop, it's really sad.
They only had 3 screens when I worked there, now there's 5 or 6.  It's really a great theater for the city to have.  I need to make it down to see RHPS one of these weekends, but I don't think I could stay up that late!!  hahaha

Dewey's Pizza

Category: Pizza

4 star rating

Dewey's is a pizza that has a classy style to it.  You can get toppings at Dewey's that other pizzerias may not offer.  They have roasted garlic, as in the whole clove that you can smoosh across a slice.  When we ordered roasted garlic at Donatos recently it was just chopped roasted garlic...eh.
The crust at Dewey's is really tasty, not too thick and a bit chewy.  There are many interesting combinations to choose from rather than just "supreme" or "meat lovers".  Their salads are really great too!  The house salad with Gorgonzola, pine nuts, dried cranberries and a vinaigrette dressing is such a mix of interesting tastes that work together!  Many places have a similar salad now, but this was the first place I noticed it.
They have plenty of locations around town now, so there is no reason not to go!
