The perfect little hideaway in an area sorely lacking a decent cafe. When you walk in you feel as if you have entered the living room of a boho funky friend. There are a few tables and a comfy sofa. There are shelves lined with books asking you to purchase them before reading them. There is a wonderful blend of scents that overtake your senses. The day I went I just ordered a coffee but the owner was sauteeing onions in preparation for paella which was to replace the Shepard's Pie she had sold out of earlier in the day. Everything is fresh baked in house. The menu changes constantly so don't get too attached to the margarita pie or other delicious specialties. Globe Trippin also hosts a number of artistic events.

Now closed. Quality started to slip, customer service never really got off the ground and now they are closed. It was fun while it lasted.

Dry rubbed ribs in Harlem Oklahoma style.  You would think that a place like Harlem would be teeming with rib joints but as it turns out with the exception of Sherman's and Dinosaur you are pretty much left ribless (they are offered on the menus of places like Hudson River Cafe and MoBay).

Oklahoma smoke is offering some competition in the taste category but when it comes to customer they leave a lot to be desired. I felt like it was the kind of the place where some dude could really get down with his ribs recipe and every said 'you should open a spot' so he did.  And then he hired all his home boys.  And they had no idea what they were doing and no business sense.  Yeah, kind of like that.  Limited seating. For now the place is clean and food is good.  I ordered a pull pork sandwich Carolina style (slapped with slaw) which although ot was tasty was a little on the tough side...not tough...but not quite as tender as I expected. Sauce was great!  Prices are pretty good.  I want to try their BBQ shrimp.  I would go back just to try a couple other items and hopefully the customer service and they way they operate will have improved (bwahhhhaaaaaa).

Best damn carrot cake in Harlem hands down! Not overly sweet, extremely rich and moist, and reasonably priced. No nut and raisins will give you a huge slices of cake (big enough to share) for $2.25. If you want the works it will cost you $2.75 a slice. I also spotted coconut cake and red velvet cake. Be sure to make a stop next time you are in El Barrio.

The real draw to Ottomanelli's for brunch was the price.  For $9.95 you get a full meal, two cocktails, and coffee or tea. We couldn't pass up the deal.

I ordered the buttermilk pancakes and my friend ordered the French toast. Both meals came with a choice of Applewood bacon or country sausage and fresh fruit on the side. We traded our plates and agreed that both were very tasty. The bacon was thick, crisp, and savory. Both the pancakes and French toast were flavorful. Although the pancakes were not light and fluffy they were still quite delicious. The French toast was thick and heavily sprinkled with cinnamon.

For my drink I ordered the mimosa, My friend the Prosecco. Again, both were good though I preferred the mimosa.  The fresh fruit consisted of melon slices and a few seedless grapes.

The brunch menu isn't listed online, but it is served every weekend starting at 11AM.  Coffee is complimentary between 11 and 12 o'clock.

Catch the 2, 3 train to 110th Street and walk east one block to Fifth Avenue.

Here is my word of advice...go to the downtown location. Trust me on this one. Food was so so, prices were eh, decor not impressive, service also not impressive. Without going into details about my experience I will say that I won't be back and I won't let anyone I know step food in there. Nothing personal, but saw something I shouldn't have seen...ever. I will say the management did the right thing by somewhat accomodating our request but could have done more.

Talay has started offering a brunch service which is right on time for the summer weather and the new riverside park opened in the area. There are so many good things about Talay like the fact that the brunch price is reasonable with unlimited mimosas and sangria's (white and red), The selection of ala carte food is also a big plus. I had the crab cakes and eggs. The eggs were nothing special but the crab cake was good. Would like to try a few other items from the menu. My friend had the French toast which he enjoyed. There were also some interesting and tasty offerings on the buffet table. Last week they had paella and this week Mangu. We both said we would want to go back to try out a few of the other ala carte selections. Just a note, be patient with the service and enjoy the festive vibe of the place.

230 Fifth

I really shouldn't be giving this place an extra star but I have to admit, I'm a sucker for a nice rooftop view and 230 Fifth delivers in that department. I went for an event and was disappointed about a number of things that I won't go into detail about on this review, but I was not disappointed by NYC showing the best of her jewels and baubles that sunny pre-summer evening. The drinks and food are pricey and aren't worth the price. I was only able to try a Mojito since our waitress disappeared for close to an hour with my card. We had to hunt her down so we could go somewhere with decent drinks (Negril) instead. My friend ordered a Key Lime Margarita which she loved and a glass of red wine (which she didn't like). Her friend ordered a glass of chardonnay and was also disappointed. My Mojito was also not very good.

Summary:

Good stuff: Upscale crowd, place to be seen, gorgeous sunset views, plenty of seating, chill environment

Bad stuff: prices, service (it was an incredibly crowded night but still!), drinks not mixed well, smoking allowed which means non-smokers have cigarette smoke billowing into their faces.

So I guess this place is great if you work in the area and want to meet up with your crew after work but actually making it a destination is a big mistake. I met up with a group and was disappointed with the lack of ambiance and quality of service. The volume of everything was too loud to hear what was going on.  Not a big fan of this place at all, yet it stays crowded. Nothing special about this place. Cheap drinks don't necessarily equal good drinks.

I was a bit disappointed after reading the hype on the website. The views weren't as stunning as I thought they would be. The space was smaller than I anticipated. The drinks were expensive. We left after one drink and headed downtown where we had a ball. If you must do the rooftop thing then i recommend 230 Fifth where you actually feel like you are on true rooftop lounge.

Love the convenience but hate the pricing. I didn't realize when I popped in on my birthday for quick polish change that I would be out close to $40 for toes and hands. I didn't get a full mani or pedi (which I can usually get for around $35 bucks in other places) yet still paid too much. Needless to say I didn't tip. Your tip is in prices. As far as quality of service and aesthetics it was average. Not worth the price. This was actually my second visit to this salon and I still wasn't impressed. Go down a couple avenues to Chelsea Nails if you want good services. They aren't rude but simply overpriced for the quality of service you received.
