Order from the counter. They have about 4 or 5 salsas to choose from and every one of them is good. They offer a lot of meats such as carnitas, al pastor, carne asada, lengua (tongue), cabeza (cow's head), chicken, fish and other stuff.
Burritos are the size of an infant. Tacos are prepared with onions and cilantro (the way they should be). The tamales are delish. And the woman who runs the place is a trip.
Just check it out, i can't imagine anything is better in the immediate viscinity.

The tamales are superb, larger than their Mexican counterparts, and stuffed with soft, rich pork with an amazing consistency.
Pupusas are also good here and served in several varieties, zuchini, bean cheese, pork, locoro and maybe a couple other fillings.
The meat pie is also very good--essentially a ground beef empanada.
I also sampled the fried plantains which are extra ripe and soft when fried. The result is a little greasy but quite delicious and indulgent. Served with a sour cream dip that you don't need.
Bring your friends and order a bunch of stuff to share. I hope this place sticks around.
Don't come here expecting much beyond American diner classics, and don't order anything that sounds beyond their abilities, because it probably is.

Second Chance is some kind of Christian outreach program and the proceeds undoubtedly allow them to keep operating. This means that the employees are either batty Jesus ladies or overzealous ex-cons. They totally rock the annoying Christian radio here at an almost unbearable volume. I'd spend a lot more time shopping if they didn't.

They have pretty much everything you could want, though the housewares and clothes are the strong suit. Not a great place for electronics, furniture, music or shoes but they do have those things, so you may get lucky.
The DAV often smells like someone pooped their pants. Undoubtedly because someone did, so just try to live with it.
The checkout line is a complete mess. There is no good place for lines to form and there is often only one person at a register. Add that to the usual assortment of crazies looking at things in the display case or trying to write checks, and you are waiting a while to get out of there.
Oh yeah, they also have an ATM and a cheap soda machine.

Adam's Rib is off to a good start. Located in the old J Barleycorn's building near Santa Fe and 87th, they have apparently made vast improvements to the space, decor and vibe of the place.
As has been noted in blog reviews, Adam's Rib has an awkward procedure for ordering your food. They want you to order at the far left end of the service counter where you get a receipt, take it to the register right by the front door, pay and get your food if it's ready. If it's not ready they will call your name. It's just a little weird, trust me.
The people here are nice to a fault. Everyone smiles, greets you enthusiastically and checks up on you multiple times while you are eating to make sure you don't "need anything." While delightful for the time being, this will get old fast.
But the BBQ is pretty good. The brisket has nice flavor and is cut thick, like it should be. The fries are also tasty--possibly homemade. I also really liked the beans which were smoky, sweet and punctuated with chunks of tender beef.
All in all a solid contender in the area that may very well improve over time.
The Reuben is really fantastic, I recommend it to anyone. The menu is nice because it will appeal to both heavier and lighter tastes.
I have always liked the space, I only wish the kitchen staff could be a little more quiet in the knowledge that everyone in the front of the house can hear them.
I've never had anything but the burgers, fries and onion rings. I'm a traditionalist so my favorite is the all American with onions, pickles, American cheese, ketchup and mustard. It's just a very good burger, and perfectly sized for lunchtime.
The fries are nothing to write home about: typical shoestring frozen taters, but they get the job done.

The two salsas that come with your homemade tortilla chips are both phenomenal. One is a red chile based sauce, the other incorporates a roasted poblano and is quite a bit spicier.
I had some chicken enchiladas verdes topped with a fried egg that were pretty good. The chicken was definitely cooked whole and picked off the bone which I love to see. The Tacos Aztecas were fantastic: Large pieces of grilled skirt steak with grilled spring onions, cactus, roasted jalepenos and avocado.
The tamales are terrible. Gritty, and the pork smelled off. Considering how good everything else was this was quite a surprise, but true. So true.
They serve fountain soda with little or no ice here. Not sure why.

They serve really solid breakfast fare. That means they won't screw up your eggs. Even the potatoes are good, well cooked and liberally sprinkled with some kind of seasoning salt. They also make a serviceable burger here. I like that you can substitute a chicken breast for any style of burger that they make. Not everything on the menu is great however, and for some reason i always have a hard time deciding.
I love the service here; I've never had a bad experience.
The bar side is quite a different vibe. It's a little more sterile and does indeed have a kind of corporate, biker vibe in its decor. It tends to serve a more gay clientele than the dining room proper but it's no big thing. There are a few TVs and it's a little noisier and brighter. In general I prefer the bar but the service tends to be slower since the bartender has to take care of you.
