Yuki Sushi

Small place, and crowded on a Friday night, but damned good sashimi. YEAH IT'S GOOD! I am usually pretty reserved when it comes to reviewing Japanese places because most of the places are just "ok" and maybe some are "kinda good" but this place is actually good.

I had the chirashi, which wasn't terribly huge, and it didn't have a huge selection of fish on it, but it had the basics and they were good. The sashimi was fresh and just fell apart in my mouth. Yeah, that good. They even put a neat little slice of toro in there for kicks, which was really nice.

We shared the moriawase, a varied sashimi plate. Oh man, that was tasty and certainly a good choice. The Mister decided on the tonkatsu and it was...... ok. Yeah, the tonkatsu was super disappointing, but it almost didn't matter because we ended up eating all the sashimi and taking the tonkatsu home to cook up in some other leftovers lunch remix.

Oh, and I was disappointed in their sake selection, but let's face it, I wasn't there to drink sake anyway (I can do that at an izakaya). They have basic selections, but nothing that I would want to spend money on at a restaurant.

LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!

They've got a Blue Bottle kiosk, beautiful art, lovely windows, and a really super-awesome glass hallway with a beautiful view of downtown. Seriously... it couldn't get nicer and more beautiful!

Wow, what a great space. I swear, the design of the space inside here is really just crazy cool. Really. And somehow it makes the food taste better, not that it needs much help. It's definitely a cute little café to hit up and relax in with friends.

I had the roast beef sandwich and it was really quite tasty, served with a small side salad. I also asked for an au lait (it's not on the menu, but I just asked for it) and it was decidedly creamy and tasty. I'm not sure what kind of coffee they serve here, but it was good stuff (not that I'm a connoisseur). I think they have free refills on the press pot coffee, if that's your thing!

Ok, so what the hell is up with BBQ places serving freakin' garlic bread with the food. What????? Henry's does it and so does Andy's, much to my disappointment. And yes, Man vs Food was there, but it totally does not mean the food is actually good.

Also, how come they are totally lacking in typical sides? I want to get me some collard greens or slaw or buttery cornbread. YEAH. The garlic bread is just really really wrong. If you're gonna serve some kind of bread with your BBQ, it better be plain old white Wonderbread or cornbread with butter and honey.

The meat itself was okay, but I don't know that I would go back just for that.

Ok, so I didn't know that this place is an asian fusion place (I'm not a huge fan), so when I looked at the menu and found out that they have practically every country on there, I was a bit disappointed. However... the food was really good. I had the salmon sandwich with an over-easy egg and it was good. I wouldn't say it was the best salmon with an over-easy egg sandwich I've ever had in my life, but it wasn't so bad. I thought it was a bit salty, but then again, I'm sensitive to that kind of stuff. The fries that came with the sandwich were really good (still over-salted, but I was expecting them to be).

So anyway, where was I going with this? The food was good, and I enjoyed the place, but we did have some trouble getting our water glasses refilled with the waitress practically leaving us alone (which is both good and bad) the whole time we ate. I would still go back another time with friends who wanted to try it out, but I don't think I'll take another trip here of my own volition.

French macarons... Oh man. So good, seriously. If you care about macarons, go here and try them for yourself. The outside is perfectly crispy and light. The filling is thick and gooey, but not too sweet. There is also a good amount of filling, but not so much that it overpowers and prevents you from tasting the crispy cookie on the outside. They are very delicately flavoured and very tasty. I'm no expert, but I like the macarons here. A decent price, a cute place to sit and watch people pass, oh and super friendly service and smiles make this place a must-go if you are in the area.

They do a good job. Don't go here expecting to have the most "authentic" (whatever that means to you) Thai food in the world. It's good. The service is quick and attentive. The place is nice, and the food is tasty.

We came here one night when it was late and the place wasn't so crowded because we got a table right away. We ordered a variety of dishes, including the hangar steak and the yucca frites. Luckily, they still had the roasted chicken, so we got some of that too (I hear that some nights they run out if they have been very busy). The food was all really tasty and reasonably affordable. I would definitely go back again with friends and get a lot of plates to share.

Oh man. This place really hit the spot and it wasn't busy when we went on a Sunday evening. I shared a mint chip and dulce de leche medium size cup and it was seriously more than enough for two. I guess maybe I'm not used to eating much ice cream, but it seemed like a good size for us to share and not feel like pigs afterwards. I like that they list on the cup sizes how many flavours you can fit into it. Medium actually said we could ask for 2-3 flavours, but we decided to keep it simple and just get two.

So ok, the food was good, but goddamn it was freakin' pricey!! $8 for a teeny antipasti plate? Jeez....

We tried the rabbit, beef tongue, brussels sprouts, sunchokes salad, and aglio e olio rigatoni. All the food was good, but oh my god the brussels sprouts were salty as hell and made my mouth feel so damned dry.

The wine menu was niiiiiice though and we randomly picked a good one.

We didn't bother with their overpriced desserts and headed a few doors down to the gelato place instead.
