Range
Category: American (New)
Neighborhood: Mission
The ambiance of Range is really quite nice -- they've done a great job with the colors and lighting and creating a warm and inviting space.
Our salad was somewhat small, but very tasty, fresh and satisfying. We tried one of the cold soups and it was mild, but not un-interesting. The grape leaf-wrapped risotta main was interesting, though the green salsa sauce was a little out of place. We finished with the apple-pear tarte, which was a great finish to an otherwise very enjoyable meal.
Tip: don't bother with half-bottles of wine. You're better off getting 4 individuals glass of wine at around $8 each (total: $32) than their cheapest half bottle (around $45).

If you're looking for a couple flowers here and there, I'm sure you could find something here -- just don't go looking for any arrangements that are going to impress.

It's not the Ace Hotel, but still ranks up there among the best hotels I've stayed in. And there's a Stumptown coffee shop and Mother's Bistro four or five *short* blocks away!

When we set up CItizen Space, we were looking for a productive alternative to cafes -- but that didn't lose the feel and camaraderie of San Francisco coffee shops. There's always more we can do to improve things, but I think we're well on our way!

The panqueca was essentially a crepe with vegetables (pumpkin, carrots, onions, sweet potato) and a good amount of greasy cheddar on top, with a side of rice. It was actually pretty good, but not excellent. The muqueca was a coconut-curry catch of the day with shrimp, rice and salad. Definitely tasty, but the salad was uninspiring as an accompaniment.
The greatest disappointment came with the bill, which rang in at a whopping $60 (with tip), probably 2/3 what the meal was worth. In any case, the waitress (who was subbing) was friendly, and the outdoor seating was pleasant, but on the whole, don't get your hopes up.
