I was excited that there was a 24 Hour Fitness with a pool in SF. The awesome folks at the CPMC Running Clinic (http://tinyurl.com/CPM...) recommended I cross-train with swimming to get a more well-rounded hip workout. The frog kick you do in the breaststroke is perfect, and I had been intending to start swimming again anyway.
Perfect, right?
This pool was nasty. NASTY. Probably the murkiest pool I've ever swam in. Interestingly enough, they apparently just finished their daily cleaning when I arrived, so god knows what it looked like an hour earlier.
Blech.
Furthermore, the pool room is also the hot tub room. The creepy bathhouse vibe was really nasty.
Want a clean, tidy, well-light swimming environment? Definitely, definitely go somewhere else.
Also, the location is not the best. Sure, there's parking (which is a luxury in this city), but you literally have to go into this dungeon-like parkinglot cave--complete with pipes dripping god-knows-what on you--to access the main entrance.

I'm a high-arched, mildly underpronating super-clydesdale, and I think I've found my San Francisco shoe store. Good selection, reasonable prices and very knowledgeable people--what else could you ask for?

Lots of different sports are represented, from running to outdoorsy woodland stuff. They had ski and snowboard clothing, a ski section, a huge bike section.
Seriously, why haven't I been here before? And there's a parking lot, no less. Five stars, two thumbs up, etc etc etc. Me gusto mucho.
I came in looking for some running clothes and outerwear; the sales people had this general attitude like I was some sort of interloper, invading their beautiful scenic campground. Forget a friendly "hi"--you'll be lucky to get eye contact here. Uncomfortable really.
Aside from the negative vibe I got from the staff, there really wasn't much in terms of selection. They had somewhat limited choices for running apparel, and it was definitely geared more towards camping and "hiking" than running.
If I was into hiking, I'd probably give this place 2-3 stars. Since I was looking for more general running products, I'm sticking to my 1 star rating. Sorry REI.

Kamal and his drivers are friendly, courteous and prompt; and while a car service might seem like a decadent luxury, the rate is actually comparable to a cab for airport drop-off and pick up.
Very relaxing, enjoyable way to get back home after a long trip, and a great way to be confident that you'll get to the airport or event on time.
*MuchI* better than having to climb into a beat up cab and submit to an insane driver weaving in and out of traffic while he talks on loudly his phone.
