Very nice grounds and the facilities appear very nice. Unfortunately, appearance is not everything. The walls are thin enough that normal conversations in neighboring rooms can be heard well enough that you are tempted to join in.
The private jacuzzi did not work. The heater would not turn on. I brought it to the attention of front desk and was advised to read the instructions. I'd already done that several times. I went to the front desk in person. They sent the night security guard to come and "help". He told about the frequency with which the problems that I was having occurred. We decided to go else where.
In the morning I went to the front desk to check out. We had a two day reservation and I was checking out after one night. The manager asked why and I explained the previous night's events. He offered a variety of perks if I would stay. We chose not to. The manager deducted the additional cost of the private jacuzzi and checked us out. One extra star because the manager was courteous and professional.
I cannot recommend this establishment. Next time I'll stay at the Best Western.

The best coffee in Santa Cruz. Friendly, knowledge staff. The product is awesome.
The music selection is good. Very often Jazz, real Jazz.
They need to throw out the furniture and start over. The chairs are hard, strangely curved and uncomfortable.
Be patient. Good coffee drinks take time. If there's a crowd, it might take 10 minutes to get your drink.

Extremely professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. I highly recommend Eyers Hitch Center.
I purchased a hitch and an electric brake controller elsewhere thinking I would install it myself. I completed the hitch but the electric brake control was more than I was willing to take on. I called Eyers Hitch. In less then 5 minutes I had a quote and an appointment. Showed up for the appointment, the owner (the son) inspected the parts I had added a bracket that I did not have and began installation.
The wires are neatly run in existing looms, where possible hardware is mounted using existing screws and bolts so that no new holes are drilled. Where new holes are required they are clean, neat and square.
Great place. Highly recommended.

We stayed four nights in a two bedroom suite. The rooms of the suite were stunning. The master bedroom was large enough to get lost in, even with a king size bed. The suite has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a small living room and a kitchenette. There are three TVs in the suite. The alarm clock radios in the bedrooms have an external plug to connect your iPod. The room has Wi-Fi, four bars on my Mac PowerBook. Amenities include a smallish pool, better than continental breakfast and dinner (complimentary), a fitness room and a business center. All in all, it's not a resort but it's a damn nice place to stay.
We were there in July. Phoenix as really fricking hot in July. No one goes to Phoenix Arizona in July. Because of that, we got this stunning suite for only $120 a night. Go with all the other Lemmings in January and you pay $290 a night.

Whale City Bakery Bar & Grill is about 10 miles north of Santa Cruz on Highway 1. It is a regular stop on my Saturday morning breakfast tour in which I meet with a friend for breakfast every Saturday.
The food is always good, served surprisingly fast. The huevos rancheros is excellent. Carrolitos sausage is excellent no matter where you get it. Whale City happens to sell it. Bacon and eggs are also quite good. The potatoes they serve in place of hash browns are fair.
The big surprise this morning, and the reason they get only three stars instead of four, was the increase in price. Bacon and eggs went from a little under $7 to about $8.50.
Good food, seldom crowded, with fast, friendly service. Starting today, a little on the pricey side.

Jack's Burgers are indeed, awesome. Jack's fries leave room for improvement. My recommendation. Spurge on the burger, get one of Jack's excellent milk shakes and skip the fries.
Busy at lunch time during the week. Excellent choice for its outdoor sitting when the weather is cooperating.

Ideal Bar & Grill
Categories: Nightlife, Restaurants
Ideal Bar & Grill is located at the head of the Santa Cruz Wharf. This ought to be nice place. They have great location, lots of floor space. However, most of the times I've been there the food is over priced and poorly prepared, the service is more fitting of Denny's and the overall experience leaves you feeling slightly violated. Yeah, I know. Pretty brutal review.
I saw they are running a breakfast special. $3.95 for 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, 2 pieces of toast (actually one slice of bread cut into two) and hash browns. A friend and I decided to check it out.
The food was excellent. The service was prompt, friendly and casual and the coffee was really good. The waitress did try to sell us up to a couple of blueberry muffins while we waited. We passed.
If you're not up for the special the other items on the menu are going to cost you. The cheapest breakfast item (they called it brunch) was $10 and change. Running on up to just shy of $20. I would go back for the breakfast special but I would not pay for the other offerings.
I recommend Ideal Bar & Grill for breakfast only.

Aldo's Harbor Restaurant is right down on the harbor. The view doesn't get any better. I've only been there for breakfast. The Corralitos sausage and eggs is awesome. The service staff is friendly and fast. On the cooler mornings or when it is wet, Aldo's has a few tables inside that are quite nice. If the weather permits the place to be is outside on the deck.
This is taco stand Mexican food. There is almost always a line, it is a popular place. The service is fast, the food is good, it is relatively inexpensive. My personal favorite, the taco and enchilada combo plate. Carne asada taco, chicken enchilada. It's about $6.
Decent place to have lunch or dinner with friends. Slightly noisy environment. Noisy enough that you don't feel like you have to use your library voice but not so loud that you feel like you're trying talk at a rock concert.
This particular shop is closest to me but I've been to all of the Taqueria Vallarta's in Santa Cruz. This review applies to all of them.

I live in Santa Cruz. I would drive to Paso Robles just to eat at this restaurant.
