The spot is cavernously cozy with sky lights at the back that set up a chill mood for a date or a full on party. The staff is attentive and Australian. Not pretentious - no super jolly annoying super waiters, just down to earth, down under folks that seem to genuinely enjoy being there.
One of my new favorite spots by far.

Gatsby's Bar & Restaurant
Categories: Restaurants, Pubs
Neighborhood: Nolita
Gatsby's is my default pre-game spot but don't be fooled by this unpretentious Nolita joint (not sure if I should call it at sports bar or an Irish bar since there are flat screens and a close to 100% Irish staff). Many a night Gatsby's has quickly gone from pre-game spot to all night dance shit show. You just never know what's gonna go down at Gatsby's. The crowd can be douchy in a recent college grad kinda way so I recommend going with a crew.
PS. I was once wrongfully accused of sexual misconduct in the Gatsby's bathroom. I'm still a bit resentful about that but I'm getting over it. That's gonna cost you a star Gatsby's!
PSS. The bouncers are big teddy bears.
PSSS. The manager hates me and my friends I think.
Sometimes you just want to go where everybody knows your name.

I think is about $.80 per pound but if you're cleaning a lot (I cleaned 13 bags of laundry last time) they might cut you a deal. The customer service is excellent. The guy on the phone is very accommodating, dominates the english language and, like I said, can hook it up if you're nice.
The laundry smells great too.

The social committee is spicing things up with better events (Bitch Bingo Tuesday's anyone?) and even the food has gotten better. Can't wait to hit up the pool this summer.

Soho House is a small luxury hotel and a members only club in the Meat Packing District. Its rooftop pool/bar is a popular summer spot and it's most talked about asset. Memberships run for about $1,800 a year and insiders tell me there are about 3,000 members and another 3,000 people on the waiting list. I was invited to attend the club by a friend last week... Here's my review:
CELEBRITY SITING: Richard Brandson (Virgin mogul, 245th richest person in the world according to Forbes 2008 list of billionaires). C+
SCENE: Cougars, fancy gays, media/creative industry "fake it until you make it" types, Brits and European hotel guest. C+
AMBIENCE: The rooftop area has a magnificent view of the city and a very beachy feel to it. You're not allowed to use your mobile in the restaurant section which I found kinda cool (this coming from a guy who sleeps with his Blackberry underneath his pillow). The pool is an excellent perk for the summer. Where else can you swim outdoors in the summer while having drinks? (A+)
FOOD: Blah. (B-)
DRINKS: Delicious as hell (A-)
BOTTOMLINE: Cool and relaxing with a pulse of New York City chic. Don't come for the food. Good for swimming in the summer and drinking it up with friends before the club.

I've left my credit card behind at the bar at least three times. A true testament of how fun it is.
I don't know what it is about Hiro but it's one of those place that gets me drinking like a college frat boy with a death wish. I can hardly ever recall my experience at Hiro on Monday morning. All I see is red (the place is flooded with red lighting that compliments the Asian decor quite nicely). Maybe the red lighting is what makes me drink so much. Doesn't red serve as some type of subliminal stimulant for thirsts? (I'm totally making that up).
Come early. There's usually a mega line on Sunday nights, although the doormen are not hard to charm here.
.
Madeleine's beautiful decor was what first attracted me to this Chelsea spot. When you step in you're transported from busy 23rd street to a French country side cafe (I've actually never been to France but you probably haven't either so what the hell). The brick walls, antique furniture, miss matching sofas and chairs, delicate silverware and china - it all contributes to a zen coffee experience.
Madeleine is not a to-go coffee joint. Stay. Sit. Sip your coffee slowly and enjoy dipping the silver spoon in the coffee. Enjoy the sound of the silver spoon hitting the porcelain . Look at the art. Look at the people. Pig out on amazing chocolate and pistachio truffles, lemon bars and tortes.
THIS IS THE PERFECT COFFEE DATE JOINT!!!
It's delightfully romantic and chill enough for that first date or the "I'm not sure if I like him enough to do dinner" guy.
Don't bother having lunch here. The sandwiches are over priced and unimpressive.

The rooms are very small but with interesting touches meant to stimulate intimacy. There's a large framed mirror next to the bed (sexy motel style). While you're laying on the bed, you can look into the shower through a transparent wall across from the bed. Sexy.
This place is absolutely beautiful. The rooms are not worth the cash but definitely come here for drinks. It will be a memorable experience.
Date

My point is...
T5 might be shitty, have mean security guards, bad sound, etc but the best rising stars in music are performing here. As long as they keep the A list coming, I'll happily joined the sweaty throngs of teenagers, slutties, punkies, misfits, girls pretending to be trannies, hipsters, more hipsters, gays, and Long Island/Jersey duchies with blowouts as we all sing together "Just Dance".
Getting very drunk helps deal with the shortcomings of the venue. Agoraphobic should not attend.
I heard there's a roof deck but haven't checked it out... Come early to get to the front of the stage without having to fight your way through.
demographic varies depending on the show - teenage perkies, teenage misfits, adult misfits, girls pretending to be trannies, hipsters, more histers, Long Island/Jersey duchies, Madonna, more gays)
