CN Tower
Category: Landmarks & Historical Buildings
Neighborhood: Entertainment District
The Tower is certainly worth a visit. From the observation deck on a clear day, one can take in Toronto in all its glory.
I first came here awhile ago, and it left its mark on me. Yes, it's touristy, and the lines can be long, but you can't beat that view. The view may be a bit nauseating to those with a fear of heights, but it's not entirely unreasonable. Just remember, you're behind glass!
I'll be back to try the restaurant.

Philadelphia Pretzel Factory #22
Category: Bakeries
We got a bunch of pretzels from this Philly Pretzel Factory - they have other locations in the suburbs and downtown. To be exact, we ordered 25 for a mere $8, or almost 33 cents a pretzel. Talk about dirt cheap - not bad if you're trying to feed a Boy Scout troop, eh?
Luckily, the Factory doesn't mess with a good thing - their take on the classic elongated Philly pretzel, with bits of salt, is virtually identical to the unsanitary ones you can get on the Boulevard. For flavor (and to fight against bacterial infection), I always slather on a package of spicy mustard.
Go celebrate National Pretzel Day (that's April 26, for those who don't know) and get some!
Karaoke was provided by Revil Entertainment (http://revilkaraoke.tr...), who had a large selection of songs. That evening there was a light crowd, so there we had our share of country, pop, and Sinatra (!) crooners. We - well, my friends - sang, watched sports (on flatscreens), and chatted. Bartender Danny poured us shots of Black Haus, inexpensive at $5 a shot.
I'll be back to the Whitpain for more karaoke! If you're not into singing, shoot some pool, or try their Pac Man/Galaga arcade machine! (For food, your mileage may vary.)

A few of us had dinner here one evening. Their parking lot was easy to get to, and a ramp took us right inside. There was a lot indoor and outdoor seating, so we opted to sit at the outside atrium.
Service (Melissa) was decent, much like their Whitpain crab cakes - they're not bad. Tried the buffalo chicken wings, which were typical, not too spicy, somewhat flavorful. Their clam chowder was blah, and not at all flavorful. For my entree, I went for the 9" personal pizza, which was pretty good. While I'm not in a hurry to run back for their food, I'll return to check out the bands that occasionally play here.
The menu is as versatile as it was before, with dependable cooking. Thai-wise, the cuisine is still decent: the pad thai's okay, and the drunken noodles are tasty enough. Get the papaya salad! Regarding the Vietnamese dishes on their menu, the pork chop on rice isn't bad, and the pho is comforting. Blue Bell-area dwellers still don't have many choices for Vietnamese without driving 30 minutes in any given direction, anyway.
Pho Thai Nam can get busy, so make reservations to be safe.

This is a Vietnamese/Thai restaurant in a shopping center in the suburbs. It serves decent food for okay prices. When it's crowded, service can be slow at times. The staff mean well, are friendly, and work with you if you have any problems. They're really customer-oriented! I've been here more times than I have fingers.
Their Vietnamese dishes are generally okay:
- The fish sauce isn't as good as places in Northeast Philadelphia, or even Vietnam Cafe in Telford.
- The pho is good (get the #47 special with meatballs).
Their Thai dishes are hit or miss:
- If you ask for your spicy curry, they will do it! It's never as spicy as I'd like (since I'm pretty numb inside) but the kitchen gives a good effort. Remember folks, green curry is spicier than red...
- Pineapple fried rice has chunks of pineapple (surprise), curry powder, carrots, green peas, and onions. Asked for it to be made spicy and it wasn't very, but it was tasty.
- Their drunken noodles aren't bad and can be made spicy too, and they do a decent job of it.
- The sauteed basil with tofu (and onions, string beans, bell peppers, mushrooms, scallions and fresh basil leaves) probably isn't a Thai dish nor does it taste like one. It's fine though, but I wouldn't get it again.
A smiley cashier took my order and credit card (no minimum charge!). I asked for "mint", after reviewing their blackboard menu. When she warned me that "mint" meant "mint chocolate chip", my heart back-flipped - what a pleasant surprise! - and I exclaimed as much, almost freaking her out.
This minty, refreshing concoction (a moderate $5.25) wasn't a thick milkshake. It more a sippable, milky slurry that thankfully didn't induce brain freeze. I got it in a topped plastic cup, and they weren't stingy about the serving.
MilkBoy's interior is chill and relaxing, and I see myself returning for their open mic nights... or for their breakfast entrees? Ah, choices!
Many, if not all, of their sauces are made in-house. I sampled two sauces, including the Liquid Fire, consisting of cayenne and habanero peppers. Not bad; it made my lip sweat. The chipotle BBQ is a tasty, soothing, smokey sauce made of slow-smoked vine-ripened red jalapenos and roasted tomatoes along with minced garlic, which gave it kick without being spicy. We got two sauce containers to go, which the owner prepared for us himself.
I ordered nuggets which weren't expensive (no minimum credit card charge). Lunch service ended a half-hour before I walked in, so there was a tiny wait while they whipped up a fresh batch. (For the curious, they cook in cholesterol-free and trans fat free oil.) The nuggets came out piping hot, covered in a layer of light grease. The chicken was moist (for nuggets) and the sauce (after prolonged exposure) made me cry a bit. Definitely felt the whole shebang later[1]. Winger's made me happy, and I'll be back to try their southern fried chicken.
If you want to eat there, note there's limited seating. They have pickup, all day delivery, and catering services, so there are options - enjoy a party tray today!
[1] That COULD have been related to the expired bag of Doritos I inhaled that morning.

Country Inn & Suites By Carlson
Category: Hotels
This Country Inn and Suites is situated conveniently right off a New Jersey Turnpike ramp, in Absecon[1]. Getting back on the highway seems to be a challenge - I never did quite figure out how to do that.
It's fancy for a motel, with a large freshly paved parking lot. Rooms are quaint, clean, with nice lamp shades, and an overall red-beige color scheme to them. The bed I tried was cushy and bouncy, if you're into that. If you get hot, the room AC is crazy powerful.
The place seems new, including most of their amenities, with the glaring exception of the woefully underpowered PC in their "business center" - it had less memory than my cell phone, and was slower than a platypus in a skating rink.
Free breakfast is offered in the morning for patrons.
[1] Regarding the town of Absecon, my friends from the area tell me it's not pronounced "AB-seh-con" and, rather, "ab-seek-IN".
NOTE: Reposted since Joy G. astutely noted that I had posted photos on the wrong Country Inn listing!
It may not be worth the drive for some - I have plenty of parks near me - but if you're willing to go, you'll enjoy yourself.
It's no Sea World, but there's still plenty of exhibits to entertain young folks, and even jaded older folks. Prices range from $20 to $30, depending on your age.
If you or anyone you know is into aquatic animals - and not just eating them - stop in for a visit.
