Ikaros Restaurant
Categories: Greek, Mediterranean
I totally disagree with the other reviewer who claimed that Samos is better. Samos is Greek fast food--very good if you want souvlaki but not good if what you want is a good sit down dinner.
Ikaros has the best staff, who treat you like family (mostly because they have all been there a long time) and it's also great for groups/parties.

Two of us ordered 3 maki rolls which was more than enough. Each roll is about 10 or more pieces with each piece being the size of my palm. Ok its not that big, but its big enough that you are embarrassed to put the entire thing in your mouth at once. Good creative rolls, around $12-$15 each. You aren't here for the sashimi, you are here to stuff yourself with good maki rolls till you puke.
Come around 6:30-7pm, it started getting busy around 8.

I like the simple modern atmosphere and smallish size.

Cheesy and cheap looking clientele.
Beyond rude door staff.
Horribly pretentious attitude.
And....... the place was half empty!!
They keep you waiting like cattle outside to perpetuate the look of exclusivity when they could easily have you inside and be making $$$ off of you. It would all be worthwhile if it didn't feel like someone's bad high school basement party - Zima anyone??? *If* you get inside, you look around and actually feel sorry for the people who hang out there.
I spent 5.7 minutes there last night and that was 5.7 minutes too many.

Tip Top Meats & European Delicatessen

The meat market has top quality meats (and even hard to find selections like rabbit) prepared by real butchers. Their sausages and other homemade meats are authentic and affordable.
They also have a nice selection of cheeses, and a HUGE selection of "hard to find" european brand foods that are wonderful. Browsing each aisle you'll find something new each time you go. I particularly like their dill pickle selections (the "frische gerken" ... not sure the spelling... are THE BEST. They serve them in the restaurant so if you can't find them, ask at the counter and they'll tell you which brand).

They have lunch specials between 1-3pm that give you a very nice selection for maybe $30 for 2 people in a nice lunch. The service is good, and their location is probably the best of any inner harbor restaurant.
A good treat is the fried ice cream--I never eat fried food or ice cream but they make it in a special japanese way and they top it off with a sauce I can't describe. It's a better dessert than I've had anywhere in Baltimore and that includes the high-end Italian places like Della Notte, etc.
