SmashBurger

This place served up a pretty damn good burger.  A lot better than I had expected... Old school, greasy and loaded with toppings. Sometimes that's what  you're in the mood for. It's a Step down from City Grille though a step up from a Good Times or a Johnny Rockets.

Best Custard I have had in Denver.  Easily tops Good Times and the others in the area. I rank it up there with Anderson's (Buffalo, NY) and East Coast Custard (Cleveland, OH)

Steve's Snappin Dogs

I'm not gonna lie, I Love a good dog and as most East Coast/Midwest transplants, I  am always looking for a better one in Denver. Steve's has a great thing going. Located only a few minutes from my house, I think I will find myself frequenting it. Now, until some smart Buffalonian (obviously not myself) sets up a Ted's or something similar, serving chargrilled cased Shalen's or Wardynski dogs in Denver I will not be 100% satisfied. and Denverites will not be able to taste the worlds best Hot Dog. With that said, Steve's snappin dogs is a great place for that hot dog craving most of us can't hide.

Lucile's Creole Cafe

As far as the food goes. All the other reviews are spot on. Easily one of the best tasting breakfast/brunch I've had in Denver. Prices are completely tolerable too. In fact it's so good I tolerate the snobby, annoying, inconsiderate, loud and unfriendly Wash Park types that swarm the place on the weekends. It's unfortunate because Lucile's Creole Cafe would have easily been a rare 5 stars in my book.

Cheeky Monk Belgian Beer Cafe

Category: Pubs
Neighborhoods: Uptown, Northwest

2 star rating
 9/10/2007   First to Review
A few friends and I hit up the Cheeky Monk around 8pm on a Friday. We were hoping for a little pub with a unique selection of beer some character you know, something you don't find at Thad's Beer Football and Grub) I hate to say it but we were disappointed.  Walking into the place it was completely sterile. If there was music playing I don't remember it. The freshly painted walls were just that... There was no art or anything.  The lighting was way too bright for a Friday night. We had even suggested to our server that It would probably be a good idea to dim the lights, She agreed but it never happened. We had just come from dinner so we weren't hungry but a brief overview at the menu looked way over priced (for a Beer Cafe) Ok, Let's get to the important part... the Beer. I am a far cry from a Beer snob, but I know Beer, I brew it for God's sake and looking at their Beer list I was happy. This part they know and got it right, nothing but ales and lagers from that region in Europe (well except the New Belgium stuff but that's understandable.) Oh and look at this they serve the beer in the proper glassware. Beer geeks around the area will be in heaven but I'm going to say this. They will bring their friends, partners and wives many of whom don't appreciate or know much about  bitter, spicy and hoppy beer. So where the hell is the damn sampler!?!?! This is a must for a specialty place such as the Cheeky Monk. We asked the server and her reply was "Well they thought about it and decided that it would be a bad idea because that is all anyone would drink."  This needs to be changed. The Beer is a tad pricey too $5 - $10 for a glass and we're usually talking less than 16oz. Sure it's all over 5% abv but c'mon.

I hate to give this place such a poor review because I was really looking forward to it. Granted we showed up on the second day of operation so Let's just hope they learn real fast. Their site states they are in a "Trendy new District of Denver." That is not quite true. It is an area on its way to becoming trendy but If the Cheeky Monks continues the direction they are headed they'll never see that day.

One star for the Beer.
One star for the potential

Damn good! We hit this place up for lunch basically because people say this is the place to go in Denver for the Green Chili. They are right BBII's Green Chili is Tops. Just a heads up lunch goers, we got there on a Thursday at 11:45am and the place was already packed and by 12:45 it was clearing out. I was quite surprised for a place slightly off the path but hell, I know why. The Beef burrito smothered in Hot (5.25) was just hot enough. I've had much hotter (Santiagos) but this had the perfect balance between heat and flavor. As others have stated the GC is thinner but it does contain lots of chilis and huge chunks of Pork. I demolished the thing pretty quickly.  As we were entering a guy leaving said the relenos were divine. I'll have to try that next time.

GB Fish and Chips

Categories: British, Fish & Chips

Hit up GB's on a quiet Sunday afternoon. I had heard nothing but good things about this place and since I am a fan of British Fare (Specifically Fish & Chips) I figured I couldn't go wrong. Walking in it looked as I had expected, a no frills joint covered in soccer jerseys and various British decor. The place wasn't packed but there was a good crowd for a small place further south on Broadway than most might care to travel. There were several options on the menu including Shepard's pie and pasties but I opted for the fish and chips. The food was great, portions were great ( I had a half order and just finished it ) and the beer was great but isn't beer always great? Speaking of beer they had several options of domestic or import in cans or bottles. Out the door I think I threw down about 10 bucks for the meal and the beer. Was it the best Fish n Chips in Denver? Possibly. Best I've had ever? Definitely not.  If only this place were a tad closer to the S. Broadway and say Ellsworth area, it would make a great late night meal! But don't worry I'll be back.

Seems like most of the other reviews have this one covered. I'd just like to add that Vegetarians will love this place for they have their own menu. (you will have to ask for it) The Kobe beef and Hot stone app was a nice surprise. I ordered some new cocktail that involved Hibiscus and Gin... It was perfect. Go on a Wednesday night, though busy there was no wait.

This place used to be cool before they changed the format from Fast Casual to Dine in and raised the prices. Otherwise mediocre Thai food.
