With the exception of the hideous artwork (sorry artist, but it's true), this place is great! It has a swanky bar, cool lighting, and delicious food. The service is excellent as well.
The online menu doesn't show everything they have, and doesn't specify that they will make almost everything vegetarian, but they will (woo hoo!). Everyone is gaga for the Ahi Sashimi. The vegetarian salad rolls are delicious, and are enough food for a meal in themselves. The Evil Jungle Prince Chicken is good if you like coconut milk-based curry (I tried a version made with tofu) and is not as spicy as the name implies.
I asked them to make me a surprise -- anything at all as long as it was vegan. I got something that seemed a lot like Pad Thai. I thought it was a little bland and ended up dousing it in the dipping sauce from the summer rolls. But as it's not a regular menu item, I wouldn't judge them by it.
Though we've taken our kids here, I'd recommend against it unless yours are very well behaved. Fuel has a sophisticated vibe and would make a great destination for date night. It is across Winchester from Santana Row.
The seating is not the comfiest (either a metal nest or a vision of space-age design from the 1950's in black plastic), but after a few scrumptious drinks from the bar, you won't care either way.
Vegan Report: Vietnamese can be difficult, but not here. They are really good at accommodating special requests.

The Dish - Stanford Foothills
Category: Parks
Things I especially enjoy:
* getting to see that people who work out still have flabby bodies
* the occasional weird person, like the guy who jogged in slacks and a button down shirt
* saying "good morning" to people I pass and getting to hear how out of breath they are when they return my greeting

"The Dish" is a pleasant, well traveled walk to a giant satellite dish atop a hill on the Stanford property. The trail is paved, so it's great for people who are unsteady on dirt paths, strollers, wheelchairs, walkers, etc. It's also popular, so you won't be alone on your stroll. I prefer an unpaved trail, but the dish is worth visiting when it's muddy or you have a walking partner who prefers the pavement.

I don't think I'd ever tried oshinko before. Yum!
Unfortunately, my falafel had a sharp piece of metal in it! I'm not sure when we'll be back with delicioso Jimenez next door, but I do intend to give it another try. I'm just a little creeped out right now. :--(
* Sorry Kathy, I did point out that "chicken thigh" is spelled "chicken Thai" so they could correct it.
The staff is terrifically friendly. The restaurant is tiny, but you can eat on the patio is the weather is nice. I currently eat here several times a week, every week. They know my husband's and my orders by heart.
PS: Whoever said they don't have shrimp is crazy. They have pawns on the menu and a huge banner advertising their camarones dishes.
PPS: They are open 9-9 every day.
Vegan Report: I get a veggie burrito without cheese and sour cream. I always ask for whole beans. I don't know if the refried beans are vegetarian.
For surname projects I host, I offer a choice between DNA Heritage and Family Tree DNA (in the States).
When I am ordering a test, my initial question is, "Is it important to me that this test is stored a long time?" If the answer is yes, then I choose Family Tree DNA (I tested my grand uncle in 2004 and he has since passed away, so it is important to me that his sample is stored as long as possible in case further testing capabilities are revealed). If the sample is not precious, then I choose DNA Heritage because of their excellence in accuracy. I once had a test with a value for DYS464 that DNA Heritage correctly scored but two other labs mis-reported; the other labs later acknowledged DNA Heritage was correct.
Pros and cons of DNA Heritage:
+ is very reputable
+ is prompt and helpful at answering questions
+ is the only lab that tests all genetic genealogy samples in duplicate!
+ is cheaper (43 markers for $149 vs. Family Tree DNA's 37 markers for $149)
+ uses the only laboratory in the world to be ISO accredited for genealogical testing
+ follows NIST standardised scientific nomenclature
+ maintains Ybase
+ returns results within 3.5 weeks!
- tests fewer Y-DNA markers (43 markers vs. 67 at Family Tree DNA)
- currently only stores DNA for 3 years (vs. 20 years at Family Tree DNA)

My lettuce and herbs were wonderfully fresh. My bananas and beets were miserably small. There was no rotten or spoiled food.
But all the good stuff aside, my actual first box was not right. Gave me green peppers instead of red. Gave me a roll of waxed paper instead of waxed paper bags. So I send them e-mail. No response. I suspended subsequent deliveries saying it was "until we resolved customer service issues". No response.
Will be trying Planet Organics next: http://www.planetorgan.../
PS: If you don't know what this is, it is one of several services that will deliver organic produce to your home on a weekly (or other) basis. I like it because it saves me from schlepping the kids to the grocery store and it encourages me to cook and eat more fruits and veggies.

The real key for me is that they are on Open Table (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), so you can book a table for breakfast in advance.
If you don't have GPS, the location is a little hard to find until you see the big sign. It's the southeast corner of Lawrence and El Cam, right by the underpass.
I haven't been here but that doesn't stop me from being horrified that COAC is still in business following the death of a four-year-old in their swimming pool. They ran an unlicensed summer camp for kids and it seems to me that they caused a child to drown due to staff negligence.
His parents have actually put the security footage online in which the little boy floats face down in the pool for nearly eight minutes, while camp counselors sit and swim nearby but fail to notice hm. Eight minutes.
