I came down here with colleagues, and we all walked away raving about the great taste, and AMAZING prices of their burritos and quesadillas.
My favorite part of the visit though? The veterinary supply company poster with pictures of different kinds of chickens and vitamin supplements for your cock fighting hobby.
Gecko Grill has found a great middle ground between authenticity, high quality, and price. It's menu is a little pricier than the average taqueria, but the food more adventurous, fresher, and better tasting as well. They aren't exactly pushing the envelope with the menu, but you can trust that whatever you order will be pretty damn good.
Haven't been there yet on a sunny day, but their outdoor patio looks like it would be the perfect place for some beers, chips, and salsa.
The best characteristic of Mountain Home Inn, however, is its stunning view over Marin and the SF Bay. I know of no other place where you can typically walk up without a reservation and enjoy such high quality food on a sunny outdoor deck with such spectacular views.
They prices are a bit more than you might expect for similar lunch / brunch food in San Francisco, but still definitely affordable.
This is a great place to bring your out-of-town friends for a glimpse of why they are missing out by not living in Northern California.
That spoon stirs your burrito's contents up before it is wrapped. It's simple, and genius. No more all-rice or all-beans burrito bites. Oh no. At Illegal Pete's, each delicious bite is a little meat, a little cheese, a little guac, a little rice... mmmmm...

The skirt steak, and fantastic tomato, garlic, and onion sauce you can put with it, was to die for. So was the day's special side dish: perfectly cooked sweet corn.
Our waiter was very friendly and helpful - making an excellent wine recommendation that complemented our meal perfectly.
Unfortunately, a somewhat underwhelming soup, which we shared as an appetizer, and a strike-out of a side dish, in the form of mashed squash, keep me from giving them the five stars that the skirt steak deserves on its own.
A great neighborhood restaurant if you're looking for something a little different in North Beach. Beware though, the bill can get pretty high pretty fast. We ended up spending about $80 each after all was said and done.

...Maybe a little TOO packed. We had a hard time having much of a conversation, and the crowd around the bar made getting another beer quite a challenge.
I think this place is definitely worth a second try, however, and the setting might have been perfect if we were just looking to groove to a great local band.

The beer is fantastic. My girlfriend loved both the Raspberry Wheat and Arctic Wheat, while I enjoyed the spicy Ginger beer and Colorado Nitro. The huge menu left me wishing I hadn't driven so that I could try a few more brews.
The food was also good, with some creative elements, such as the build-your-own grilled cheese menu. I had a pesto and tomato grilled cheese, with a side of their spicy and delicious vegetarian chili. We shared a platter of their EXTREMELY spicy hot wings, which was a strong incentive to continue enjoying their fine beers.
Beware: no credit cards - there is an ATM, however

1) The tantalizing sting of the spicy Hunan pineapple tasting sauce served with our chocolate dessert. It left my tongue tingling with a desire for another rich bite of the fudge-like delicacy
2) The succulent, tender spare rib, which was perfectly cooked and well proportioned. It was filling while leaving enough for the restaurant's signature desserts
Overall, the meal was a very pleasant one, and reasonably priced. We found a $30 bottle of Beaujolais which was surprisingly delicious and a perfect compliment to the spare rib.
My only complaints are the somewhat bare interior and slow service.

Searchlight Market
Category: Grocery
Neighborhood: Russian Hill
Prices are higher than at a grocery store, but when I am in a bind and only need a few eggs on a Saturday morning, I'm happy to pay a bit extra knowing that I can always rely on Searchlight to have what I need, when I need it.
Compare the quality and service of this place to Top of the Hill Market, just up the street, and you'll see what I mean, Searchlight is the best in Russian Hill!

The food was good, but not exceptionally remarkable. I would return again if looking for inexpensive and easy access to BBQ in the inner Richmond.
Food is ordered at the counter, and your name is called to pick it up.
