Either Saturday night or Sunday morning my husband and I are going to believe leaving to go somewhere out of town...
JUST THE TWO OF US...
He told me it's my decision. We'll be coming back on Tuesday. Does anyone have any suggestions for a "get-a-way"? Not to expensive... I don't want to spend more then $500-$800

The Pine Inn in Carmel is an amazing value:
http://www.pineinn.com/ and the rate includes a full breakfast at Il Fornaio just off the lobby.

Looks like the Pine Inn is available Sunday and Monday night (checked their web site)

Some of my favorite romantic getaways are:
The Inn of the Spanish Garden in Santa Barbara
Bernardus Lodge in Carmel Valley
Highlands Inn in Carmel (it's a Hyatt Property)
Check for deals online since you are going Sunday through Tuesday - there are usually great packages available for these places

Zinfandel Inn or Silver Rose Inn in Napa. Great B&Bs with romantic rooms. Close to all Napa wineries. Have diiner at either Bouchon or Bistro Jeanty in Yountville.
Have fun!

San Luis Obispo is nice, but Santa Barbara, in my opinion is better. I know it's a bit of a drive, but the drive is part of the romance. Take Hwy 1 down - it's absolutely breathtaking - through Big Sur, Cambria, etc. Stop at some of the awesome restaurants along the way for lunch. Get back in the car and drive at your liesure. Get out occassionally and take a picture - there a few more beautiful back drops in the world.

Sonoma! my bf and i just celebrated our 1 year their recently, and we are totally on a budge. we stayed at the birmingham B&B which is rad because there is no TV, but they make gourmet breakfast and there are wineries within walking distnace. and it's like 150 a night.

I went to college in SB - from here it takes between 4 and 5 hours. It takes about 6 or so hours to get to LA from here.

I second Hearst Castle/Cambria. It's a really nice drive and Cambria is a nice little place to chill without all the hustle and bustle of other tourist spots.

The Sock S. says:
I second Cambria. Great place, but I'm damn unlucky there! Huge breakup on the "romantic" trip...

Definitely not 80 on the 101. And if you're taking the coastal route, it's significantly longer anyway. But cruising down the 5 is fast. 80 is my average speed.

Shannon V. says:
SB and Napa are great places, but both pretty expensive to stay there.

mountain home in Milly valley
it
s called mountain something - close but away
i don;t like to spend a lot of timedriving
Albion inn in mendo is really nice but on the pricey side
allegria right in the town of mendo is noce - they have a couple little cottages that are very private and will bring your b'fast to you. we usta go there and just cras out - stroll the town beach, eat dinner and crash again - so relaxing

Lauren S. says:
Natalie - Pelican Inn is a beautiful and incredibly romantic suggestion. My husband took me there when we were first dating. It worked! The only problem there is that there are so few suites, so the weekends fill up fast and it's hard to get in.
If you do go there, look into reserving the room called the "snug". It's downstairs off the kitchen, it's private and cozy and has a fireplace. You reserve it so you have it all to yourself. Order a bottle of champagne and some late night snacks. The staff will deliver it to you, make a fire for you, and you can sit in there all night together. It's so nice.

Ah Reno, poor tramp cousin to South Lake Tahoe. You didn't listen to any of us, did you? "How Romantic" is a rhetorical question because you don't want to hear the answer.
Napa is romantic. Reno is. . . uh. . ..

i used to live in Santa Barbara and my GF and i used to always go to the Inn at Morro Bay, on sundays and mondays they have an awesome deal, hotel room w a fireplace and hot tub on balcony for 149 a night, and its super nice and right on the bay, a must in my opinion
05/21/2007
Simon O. says:
by the way morro bay is west of san luis, and you can get there in more like 3 hours ( i get to SB in 4) or you can make it a 5 hour drive but a breathtaking drive along the coast through big sur.

try BALLOONS ABOVE THE VALLEY in napa/sonoma - they have day and weekend packages that go along with the balloon ride and champagne brunch included for less than $600 i think. if you live wine country do it~! but remember to check out their website for fares, rates, and hotel/bed and breakfast accomodations to get a discount where you can. enjoy!
