I am looking for a new place to live and would like to move into the D.C., Arlington area. I am specifically concerned about safety. I will be living with two other girls and know how important it is to be safe. Does anyone have any suggestions? Perhaps where to stay away from? Or where we should definitely look?

Thanks!

This is an interesting question. This is a city and safety means different things to different people. Where are you from now? Maybe that will help. Another city, rural, suburbs?

I live in Clarendon and I highly recommend the area.  There are lots of rentals around, both high rise and single family homes.  I'd say anything along the Ballston, Clarendon, Courthouse corridor is a safe bet, especially if you're within a half mile of the metro and aren't too concerned about price.

But, no place is 100 percent safe.  Our community association is constantly harassing our local Arlington County Police department, even though the police and detectives who come to our monthly meetings telling us that year after year, our area is down in crime.  One thing I would not do is live around Washington Boulevard or Glebe Road.  Some parts of both these streets can be a little dicey, especially later in the evenings.

If there's an area you are really interested in, find out where the nearest police station is and ask for their crime statistics. Good luck!
