happening with 2 games makes it sound like it's the xbox.  Have you gotten the RROD on your machine yet?

i don't think its the hardware since it only does it on the two games i mentioned. if the lens was dirty, all my games would show the error message. thinking its a software issue, maybe i'll just exchange it and hope for the best.

if you haven't cleaned it, you can't rule it out.

if it only happens to 2 particular games, but none other then I would look at the discs for scratches or blotches. Even a small deep scratch on the side where the picture is can mess up a disc. If it's the disc, you can take it somewhere to get resurfaced. If the disc looks fine, try renting the same game from blockbuster or buying another one from the store. If the problem still is there, you can try buying an enduster can (basically canned air) to try to clear out some of the dust on the inside of the case and lens area. If that doesn't work, send it back to microsoft as part of your warranty or buy a new one.

Does your loading or green button in the center stay red? If so It's your system. Their's a major law suit going on w/ microsoft in which they knew about selling faulty systems. they were saying that 16% of the XBOXS' were faulty. Check google about the suit. It's in Cali.

Ignore rants.

1. Clean your DVD lens.
2. If the problem persists, take it back to the retailer and get a replacement disc.

Do you use a memory card instead of a hard-drive? I've been having the same problem, I returned my first disc and it's still having problems with the second. I heard some people who bought the arcade xbox and only use a memory card are the people having this problem, I don't know why.

Here's the deal...I'm a buddy of "Jeremiah's". We bought our games at different stores, both have the "Premium" XBox (w/hard drive), don't have problems with other games (other than stated...I also had problems with GTA4, as did many) and I am ALSO having the same BS problem....(as are many, if you look at the several Blogs and Threads across the internet)....Either "Disc. Unreadable" or "Disc Read Error" (clean disc., etc...). Or...even the white screen with the Japanese lettering asking you to put disc into an XBox 360 (which, obviously, it is already in).  No issues w/RROD.  I say, bad batch of discs!!!  Jeremiah, quit obsessing on Yelp, but if you do, give more details as to create a more efficient thread... :)

when you go to gamestop, ask them to put it in their system before you go home with it so you can see if it works before you go home. If it doesn't work then you just saved yourself some gas and time.

The problem with that is that the game may be fine for 5, 10 or even 30 minutes before error message pops up.  Only a couple of times it wouldn't load from the start.  I actually bought mine at Best Buy and would go return it right now, but I know that they received about 1,000+ copies of the game and would love to get a disc from a different batch.  Might need to wait a week.

best buy does have a 14 day policy so if it is defective, they're supposed to take it back for full credit towards the same title

Actually,  Best Buy's return policy is 30 days for "new" games and 14 days for "used" games (didn't even know they sold used games).   It's not so much that I'll have an issue exchanging it, I just don't want another from the same "first" batch, know what i mean??  Thanks Kevin.
