Does anyone know of someone who can do hair and make up for a wedding. I don't know a lot of salons in San Jose and would like info.

Thank You,

Jean

I found a lot of places in Los Gatos that were really pretty inside and their stylists seemed to know what they're doing... It also depends on your price range and preferences...

here's some tips:
-most bridal hair runs  from $175-$250 including prior consultation and day of styling.
-for bridesmaids it's usually $60-$85 and doesn't tend to include pre-trials.
-makeup can run from $75-$200!!  and usually includes a trial... this is the tricky part... you prob need to decide what type of make-up you want (mineral, mac, some random "salon" brand, or even a more reputable line from a free standing store at the mall-- este lauder, mac, stilla, or go to a counter at nordies or macy's).
-for the bm's it's usually $50-$75... in los gatos, i found most to be around $65
-i guess you should also consider the proximity of your getting-ready location to the place you want to get your hair/make-up done and travel time...
I'm going to have my hotel, salon, church all within a few miles... it's just easier for me that way.
if you have ppl come to you, don't forget their huge travel, on location fees!
-sometimes i've found a really good salon for hair but thier make-up artists don't seem that great, so i've decided to get hair done at Tanels in LG and our make-up done by a friend.  the make-up artist at Tangles uses MAC, and it's ok, but I don't want really heavy make-up...

here are some places i looked up in the san jose area... but there's tons more options... you just have to visit them and get a feel, unfortunately... meaning= more leg work!  boo!

dolce vita spa.com
bridal makeup $50 with trial and day of

the alexandria salon.com
bridal makeup $50 for trial and $75 day of
bridal party $65
bridal hair $75 trial and $75 day of
bridal party $65
mother of bride hair and makeup $110

I have lots more info on los gatos... so if you want it, let me know!
lot's to think about!!

Jean B.  Our formal website...www.egomechanix.com is under construction at the moment.  We are all working on several photoshoots to be able to construct a much better presentation of a site for all to view.

Or myspace account does not list prices only because we would rather consult with our clients.

Our bridal packages are $250 for the bride which includes their trial run as well as their "day of" each bridesmaid or whom ever or is receiving any hair services is $75 thereafter.  Our make up applications from our makeup artists are $50.

We do have on location services as well, we're working on a better price because as it stands, they are $300 for just a travel on location fee, but that includes all the hairstylists involved which could be up to 3 as well as the make up artists which could be up to 2.

Our prices for our wedding packages are being revamped, we are going to be working on putting packages together that inlcude facials or waxing etc.etc.  "THE WORKS" for the brides.

We also require to have a consultation at least 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding date, so in case there are any kinks that you need to work out with your hair or make up changes, that we are able to adjust them in a timely manner prior to your wedding.

Hopefully this helps!!

Oh by the way does anyone ever heard of Irmina? She is a hair and make up stylist. Does good work but way to pricey. I had my trial run yesterday for hair and makeup and it cost $150 which is separate from the actual day of. She works with a gal named Taylor Pham.  Facesbytaylor.com.

If anyone have heard of her can you tell me what your experience is with her. Thanks.

JUST did my trial run for hair and make-up on Saturday. Went to La Belle at the Stanford shopping center. They were great. It's a nice place and they really know their stuff. When my sister saw me all dolled up she got teary and kept saying how beautiful I was. If that's not a rave review, I don't know what is.

I did get my trial run yesterday and came just how I want it to be but the price of $500 day of on location is the one I am not jumping up and own for.

Jean just to let you know in regards to on location fees as a stand point from a hairstylist.  Those fees are there for us to make up for loss of the day especially if they do other work in a Salon for example.  An on location fee is there for us to book out our whole entire day so that it ensures that your "day of" runs perfectly smooth.  Meaning we (err..myself I should say) is usually there an hour prior to your appointment to make sure I have everything set up and things run smoothly.  The on location also includes having to lug around our equipment, which quite frankly, isn't quite as light as a feather.  We bring a ton of stuff to make sure we're not unprepared.

I should have clarifyed the on location fee that I listed above of $300, is the travel fee, that doesn't include the trial run fee and day of price of your hair.  It still is that $250 bridal package plus the $75 each bridesmaid or what not.  BUT like I said above, these are kinks we're working out as far as pricing goes.  Egomechanix did just open in November of last year, so we're having kinks work out as far as Bridal Packages.

Joanne ,

Do you guys charge extra for showing up at  the cermony and at the reception? Most Asian weddings are two parts so the bride will need to have her hair and make up fixed for the reception..which ends up being later in the day..plus 2 hours for asian time.

haah 2 hours asian time...love it...almost like Filipino time...

Good question...I've never really had to deal with something like that before....If I was personally doing the wedding it's something that could be worked out during the consultation.  I need more info on that.

Joanne,

I guess I am confuse, so the trial Run is how much? Is the bridal package $250 or $300 and the $75 for the bridesmaid is the hair only? If so how much is the make-up? I want my mom and sister's hair and make up done and my matron of honor's will only do Hair.

I just don't want it to be like the first trial I had she charges $150 for the trial which I guess is fine for Hair and Make-up. But she is charging $250 for hair alone and $250 for make-up (w/c includes travel) Besides that she is charging $150 per bridesmaid including mother of the bride and groom. I just think that's a little steep.

Also, Monika Stone European Salon in Menlo Park. See my review for her address and phone number. She's awesome. She does on site make-up-ing. She's very classy, too. I don't know how much she costs, though, because she did mine gratis. (I've been going to her for years for facials, etc...) She rocks, though. Seriously.

i think that in terms of on-site/travel fees, the average prices start from $50 and up... this price may not include their gas... which some ppl i talked to, said that we would have to pay for as well...  if you're a bit wary of paying a lot for your hair and make-up ppl to come to your hotel or house, I'd def suggest finding a place close by to you...  don't forget that you'll want to tip as well, so factor that in as well!

oh, and I've heard of Taylor Pham before... based in SF, right?  her make-up pics look really nice on the site... don't know much else though... i think she may charge a lot tho.

Jean-- when are you getting married?  if i hear good things about the ppl mentioned or if Tangles turns out to be amazing, I'll let you know!

becky f.  I am getting married on Sept. 2nd in downtown San Jose at St. Joseph and will be getting ready at the Sainte Claire. That is why I am looking for someone local and the travel fee that people are quoting me seems ridiculous. I don't mind paying for the actual service and say $50 travel fee but $300 is a little outrageous. That means the lady I went to will actually get $800 for approx. 3 hours of service. That is approximately $280/hr.

I will keep looking for the best deal. nothing over $500 is what I am aiming to get for both the day of and the trial run. I thin k that is not being cheap but being reasonable.

i totally agree with your price points!  yeah... $500 is asking waaaaay too much... you may want to check out some of the make-up artists at the beauty counters at valley fair... they usually don't charge an arm and a leg for their services, so it might allow you to spend more $ on your hair.

i've been able to get a few trials done with laura mercier and lancome just by purchasing some make-up basics that i already needed... it gave me a good idea of what i wanted and what i didn't... wasn't super impressed by them, but i think if you do chose to try them out, it's best to go to lots of diff ppl or ask lots of questions.

Thanks for all the info ladies. I really appreciate the information too. I'm getting married next year and I need to find a make-up artist/stylist to come to my house too. My sister used this one guy who charged her $500 for bride services only.  He didn't do my mom or the two bridesmaids. But she looked good. So I think you get what you pay for in the end.  Its well worth it I think if you end up looking good in photo's for an eternity.

My friend Ann works at MAC in Valley fair, not the counter in Nordstrom, but the actual MAC.  She does excellent make up for weddings.  I'm not sure how much she charges but I could ask her for a price listing.  But she doesn't do hair.  But she knows a few girls a W salon in Satana Row.

Chromesick is a pretty cool service.  Between the 4 artists they have over 10 years experience in make up artistry.  They will travel to any where in the bay area & the prices are good.  Check their myspace for portfolio pics.
