what is better for back pain? less side effects?

I guess I could call the pharmacy but that would require too much work

    Both you can get by the doc just calling in a prescription.  I have found vicodin to have a slightly stronger palliative effect than darvocet.  The problem with vicodin is it also makes me nauseous so I used to get percocet from my doc when I had back spasms.  Strong and addictive though so be careful.

    Tremadol seems like the latest in the "back pain meds" craze.  And popular opinion says its less addictive than Vicodin or others...

    Back pain princess here *waves* - I reach for the Vicodin.

    Vicodin = Running along doing everything as normal.
    Darvocet = Over the toilet.

    Morphine = What? You just ran over my dog - its okay! Want a cookie?
    Valium = Wazzz up :)

    Percocet = Uh, did I take anything?
    Oxy = I can't hear!!!
    Codeine = AHHHHHH! ER visit.

    I am deeply grateful for vicodin, but it messes w/ my stomach so I try to eat beforehand. I usually take half.

    Dunno about back pain, but for my chronically effed up shoulder I've been taking vicodin for years, it used to make me loopy but now I'm fully functional on it and it still kills the pain pretty well

    FIrst off, you prob already know that the acetaminophen is the 'base' for both of these drugs.

    Darvocet:acetaminophen plus propoxyphene napsylate
    usually for mild to moderate pain...
    I am  assuming you are referring to the darvon-n 100 (650acetaminophen/100mg propoxyphene)
    Pls remember that the max recommended dose: 6 tabs in 24 hrs

    Vicodin: acetaminophen/hydrocodone
    I am assuming you are referring to the 5/500
    Usually for moderate to moderate  severe pain
    Again, please remember that the max recommended dose: 8 tabs in 24 hrs

    I have to admit that adverse effects will vary from person to person.
    some people feel very very sleepy and crazy loopy from vicodin... but less from darvocet... but i've heard the other way around, as well.

    constipation is a common side effect in both of these, so good to take with plenty of water and make sure to eat a bran muffin on occasion.

    of course, puh-lease lay off the alkyhol when taking these meds.

    When I had my wisdom teeth pulled, Vicodin did NOTHING for me at all.  Advil was much better.

    Darvocet would be my choice ... given those two options.

    As usual, mia k is full of very useful info!

    Neither of these do diddly-squat for me.  Ditto Percodan and Demerol, the latter of which just made me stupid.

    Ibuprofen has always done the trick for me...

    Oooh, Michael M -- they robbed you. When I had my wisdom removed, I got Percocet ... and I still fantasize about that buzz. Vicodin is very mild by comparison. My wisdom teeth were impacted on the bone and I had all four done at once, so it was a pretty messy extraction, so that might be why I got such good drugs, but man, gooooood times!

    I love vicodin, but I also get sick from it.  it's like 45 minutes of goodness and then for the next two hours I feel like I've been riding to teacups to the point where I throw-up.  It blows.

  10. 6/12/2007 Ricky G. says:

    Always eat before you take anything to avoid  nausea. You can also take a Pepcid with it and you won't get nauseaus.
