I have been watching the Travel Channel Bizarre Food section by Andrew Zimmern. Makes me wonder...Does anyone know of any bizarre food in the Bay Area....I would like to try some out.
I know a few...Not necessarily totally bizarre, but not the traditional chicken, beef, pork, fishes, lobsters, oysters etc.
For e.g.
Snails (escargots) at Baker Street Bistro, SF
Anyone knows any more?

1. Andrew Zimmern sucks
2. Old Mandarin Islamic should have plenty for you to snack on.

I saw a homeless crack-head, I kid y'all not, cooking a pigeon over a fire that he made in a small can. If that's bizarre enough for you, try visiting him at Jones and O'Farrell; he wears a big orange coat and can be often seen on his hands and knees looking for spilled crack-rocks on the sidewalk.

escargots is far from bizarre. sounds like a trip to Chinatown will take care of your needs...chicken feet, beef tripes, beef & pork stomach, pork ears, beef and pork tongue, chicken liver, duck and chicken gizzards...list goes on.

I have done Chinatown...why should ears, tongue etc. be bizarre...They were fine. You find them at most Chinese markets too.
Now the pigeon looks interesting....And yes, i agree snails are not bizarre, tho I felt they were when i first had them in France 7 yrs back...

Fine, be clear then. Just about every part of an animal is available - what do you want? brains? intestines? what? Andrew thinks durian is bizarre, that's just fruit!

Dilip "Traveler" M. says:
Well, bizarre....hmm - brains, intestines...where do i get those?
And then animals that you don't eat on a regular basis....ostrich, kangaroo, emu, pigeons or any other birds, wild gamy animals , boar, rhinos, hippos...man, my imagination is running wild now.
I hope you understand what I mean...anything that you would not normally eat during a regular calendar year!

The fella drove out to the "magic" Taco Bell in Los Banos last week with his brother. That TB is supposed to have things on the menu that other ones either don't have anymore or never had... he said it was interesting, but that they still didn't have some kinda bean thing he used to like.

Buffalo, Ostrich, Antelope and Alligator...thats cool!
Reminds me of San Jose Tied House that has "TIED HOUSE WILD SAUSAGES - two house-made sausages, one Alligator and one peppered Wild Boar served with braised cabbage and garlic mashed potatoes" and "WILD GAME BURGER
1/2 lb. weekly selections include buffalo, venison, elk and ostrich, served with fries".

A number of places in SF serve sweet meats. If that doesn't fit your definition of bizarre food, the only thing I got left is insects.

Do you mean bizarre food, or bizarre places to eat food? There's the Thai temple in Berkeley where everyone goes for Sunday brunch ...
Or, sitting on your ass in the parking lot outside Vik's or on the median breathing fumes outside the Cheeseboard, if you happen to be in the 510.

pig brains - you can find them in the markets, meat section but you'll have to cook them yourself. pig intestines are easier to find - just do a little window shopping - the brown squiggly tubes in soy sauce is it. It's actually quite tasty. if you are lucky, you may be able to find the small orange squiggly ones. You can also find pork blood, dark square pieces - normally in a dish with pork skin. Squab and pigeons can be found too - you can't miss it - again, the BBQ markets.

Bevy - duck tongue is actually quite tasty and can be expensive. If you don't know what it is - the texture is like meat. Depends if they serve it w/ the head or just really the meaty part.
