Edgar "don't feed stray cats" N. says:
Word on the street is that Crescent Heights, voted 2009's "Best New Restaurant" by San Diego Magazine's readers, has closed its doors.
RIP. I really dug that place.

MIKE "eight five eight" D. says:
very tough times right now. Shitty time to start a business. Where were they at, and how was their food?

Hunter "Call me Ishmael" L. says:
Just went on open table and couldn't make reservations, so I guess you're right Edgar.
It was in an awkward location which I'm sure didn't help.

Kat "Jaded" C. says:
Shit. That place had great food/ambience. :(

Mel "This cob will satisfy!" S. says:
Just 5 days ago they announced a new prix fixe menu on their Yelp page.
Does it really all go down that quick? Damn.

Amy S. says:
Yep, I work in the building and there's a sign on the door confirming...

Melody "food porn star" D. says:
I just called and the machine said they closed. Bummer!
I guess the food and ambiance weren't enough to bring people in the door.

Mel "This cob will satisfy!" S. says:
Right now is not the time to have a new upscale restaurant. If people are gonna throw down cash in this economy, they are going to do it with an old known friend.

Edgar "don't feed stray cats" N. says:
Mel - I beg to differ. Though I guess it wasn't enough times, I was willing to try this place out...and keep coming back.

Mel "This cob will satisfy!" S. says:
What I am saying Edgar is that people with the money to do that, are not around in the numbers they need to be right now. Old rich people, stay with what they know....and those with barely enough, are going to stay with what they know. The amount of young scensters with disposable income is on a dwindle and it's gonna hurt new places.
That's why this joint is closed and it was about the hottest new place around if you listened to the buzz.

Hunter "Call me Ishmael" L. says:
To echo what Mel is saying: a year ago I used to eat out at places like that twice a week. Now I'm lucky if I go once every two weeks, and that's only after nickel and dime-ing shit all week long.

I'm single, too. Act fast...

Marie "Gimme bubbles!" D. says:
It was a tricky location. No one wants to pay that much for parking to go out to eat. It was perfect for when you had jury duty though because you already had to get hosed on parking.

Edwin "I love BCN" R. says:
Crescent Heights was the shit. I can't think of many better places in San Diego. Sad, really!

ruggy "I heart Lorenzo Lamas" j. says:
I think the location might have been a contributing factor. I can't imagine the rent was cheap over there... and there wasn't exactly a huge storefront appeal. Let's hope they can dust themselves off and get back in the saddle elsewhere. Their food was really, really good.

Evan "$35 and a six pack to my name" M. says:
I wanted to try that place as well. I don't know how tough times are, but I had to pick my gf up last night downtown and as we drove up 5th ave every single restaurant was completely full. My gf said it's probably the Summer vacationers, so hopefully that will keep most of the places afloat.

Eric A. says:
Damn, I really liked this place, but it was definitely the location - I always though it was strange to have a restaurant like that in that particular location. (shrug)

Nick T. says:
RIP. Complete bummer.

Goodnight Crescent Heights

I never ate there but it seems strange that a restaurant so highly regarded would just close up like that. Must be more to the story.

Steve L. says:
My guess is the rent was sky high. It took the owner of the building a long time to get retail tenants - probably because he was asking too much. Crescent Heights took the plunge, probably counting on a lot of lunch business from the office crowd. That part of downtown is a ghost town at night. Hopefully the owners don't get discouraged. It would be great if the place re-opens in a better location. It was on my short list of places to try.
