Lately, I've been craving chicken. Anyone know of any restaurants in SD specializing in (or simply serving especially good) chicken -- hot wings, bbq, lemon vinaigrette, country fried chicken, and the like? Recommendations please.

Western Steakburger West on University in North Park has surprisingly good grilled chicken, along with gyros and as the name suggests...burgers. Cheap too. And a KFC is right across the street if yer into that sorta thing...

Chick's is all about chicken.Rotisserie, I think. I'm a fan of their chicken burrito: chicken, spanish rice, salsa, sour cream and cheese. They have a location in Sorrento Valley and another in Vista.

You really find the Chicken Pie Shoppe that good?
I find it rather disgusting, frozen french fries, very dry chicken, homeless patrons, toothless cashiers. (Warning sign of dining experience.)
The entire aesthetic is rather repulsing.

Try the jerk chicken at Island Spice. Also second the shout-out for Saffron.

Chicken Pie Shoppe isn't bad. I haven't tried their fried chicken yet but the chicket pot pies are good considering the extremely modest price. The decor probably reminds most people of their grandparents place, which tends to be off putting to some of the younger set.
Its not chic or modern nor is it trying to market itself as such.
I haven't seen homeless people go here but people on low or limited incomes frequent the place because of its affordability. They have to eat some place and they can't always go to the local McDonald's or Taco Bell.
As for the waiters, if you want good looking waitresses that serve overpriced mediocre food there's always Hooters. The waiters at Chicken Pie won't win any beauty contest, but they are nice and prompt with their service. I'll take that type of waitress any day over some hot twenty something waitress who is slow and full of attitude.
If you can't stand the ambiance, order take out at the take out counter. Many people do.

Fried chicken is hard to do right. At the Chicken Pie Shop, I've had meaty tasty chicken, and the price is right.

Hey... let's not diss on Hooters now. I like the waitresses with the bad attitude and extra tight shorts. :-P
hmmm... Hooters wings....

Since shows like "Laguna Beach", and "The Real Housewives of Orange County" aired.

Anyone can cook fried chicken, but it doesn't mean its any good. I can't think of any good non national chain restuarants that serve really good fried chicken in SD. But there are quite a few places in OC and LA.
