Hello!

I'm heading to San Antonio on the second week of August. I live in Denver, CO and we'll be spending time in San Antonio with my 3 nephews and 1 neice in SA for about 3 days. They are from 12 y/o through 17 y/o, and coming from UK. Is there anything to visit besides de Alamo, River Walk, Sea World?

Thank you.

Wow, Will...ya didn't leave much for the rest of us to tell..LOL!
Hans...he got it right...those are some great things to do, especially with kids that age. The only thing I can add on, is the beach. For a day trip, Port Aransas is great....it's just outside of Corpus Christie, so it's only about 2 1/2 hours away.

You might also want to check out the McNay Art Museum and San Antonio Museum of Art.  There's also the San Antonio Zoo.

For local art, music, festivals, and other events go to the San Antonio Current website at http://www.sacurrent.com.  They keep a very good list of events that are going on locally.

Oh wow! Thanks!!!! Will, that acquatic theme park is HUGE! My friends keep telling me to go there, but now I'm confused, since there are two, Galveston and ... Brownsville... Which one you recommend? Jai, I've heard of the New Braunfels area once from a friend, but the Safari sounds like something interesting! It's great to know about the British Sensations, but I don't think I will tell them, I want them to get the Texan as much as possible! JT, thanks for the local events website, that will help a ton!

Now, is there any hiking trails? How about bars/pubs to socialize with locals? Do you recommend and good places to eat, like where the locals eat?

Thanks!!!

Schlitterbahn is located in New Braunfels, the location in South Padre near Brownsville is a satellite park aimed at beach vacationers and is no where near the size of the New Braunfels (original) location.

For Food:
BBQ -
Rudy's
--------------------------
Mexican -
This stuff is everywhere, I like Beto's Comida Latina
8142 Broadway
San Antonio, TX 78288
(210) 930-9393

Rio Mambo (http://www.riomambo.co...)
They have awesome live music on patio (Thursdays)
--------------------------
Steak -
Bohanan's (http://www.yelp.com/bi...)
Ruth's Chris (http://www.ruthschris....)
Many people like Saltgrass too... (http://www.saltgrass.c...)
--------------------------
Other-
Magic Time Machine (mentioned above)
Sam's Burger Joint (ditto)
The Cheesecake Factory
P.F. Changs (Asian)

This could go all day :)

Tony!  He's bringing teens here!!  Lol  (Sorry, Hans, don't mind him... hee hee)

Ok, as far as the safari, you can visit:  http://www.wildliferan...  You're basically driving through the safari.  And yes, if you buy the bags of food to feed them, I always tell people to watch out cause those suckers'll snatch them out of your hand quick!  Lol  Heading north of San Antonio would actually offer a lot for you and your family to do since almost everything we've all mentioned (Schlitterbahn, tubing on the Comal, Gruene) are within that vicinity (or at least going in that direction) including the safari.

Oh and if you do decide to stop downtown, San Antonio is still holding Fiesta Noche del Rio: http://www.visitsanant...
Plus there's the Buckhorn Saloon (which has the Hall of Horns):  http://www.buckhornmus...

Hiking trails: we have a lot of beautiful parks out here.  One park that has a lot of trails is Eisenhower Park: http://www.sanantonio....  Then there's Landa Park near Schlitterbahn:  http://www.texasoutsid...  Now the trail there basically takes you around the park but they have a train you can ride for about a buck or two for each person, tandem bike rentals, fishing, a spring-fed pool (it remains a constant 72 degrees throughout the year and has a slide and a rope swing), an Olympic pool, free concerts and what have you.

Sorry it took me so long - I was out sick for half the day yesterday but hope this extra information helps.  =D

If you want a hiking trail experience that doubles as a neat natural pool experience go to Hamilton Pool outside of Austin... you have to hike to get there... they only let a certain number of cars in... so load up the cars and go early.  But once you're in you can hike any and all of the trails if you want and can also go to Hamilton Pool...the preserve's pool and grotto were formed when the dome of an underground river collapsed due to massive erosion thousands of years ago. There is a 45 foot water fall creating a great swimming hole.  Here's a link to the website with info on the pool... http://www.texasoutsid...

Just make sure to take drinks/food b/c they do not have any facilities there for you to purchase those items

I love San Antone!
Here are my suggestions! What area will you be in?
La Cantera is a huge mall by Six Flags Fiesta Texas
Alamo Cafe-the tortillas are the best
Twin Sisters-oatmeal and a blueberry muffin for breakfast, pronto plate with the tortilla soup for lunch
If you get away from the kids and you're in downtown, go for a martini at Swigs and more drinks at Howl at the Moon
IMAX 3D
Malibu Castle and Grand Prix
Natural Bridge Caverns
Schlitterbahn Waterpark and Resort
La Fogada
Witte Museum-really cool exhibits that both kids and adults will like
Mi Tierra-famous Mexican food place near downtown
EZ's-great shakes, pizza and burgers
Shrimp Paesano at Paesano's on the river or off Basse Rd. in Alamo Heights

Have fun! Let us know what side of town you'll be on and maybe we can suggest some more!
