I live in a very bare part of Richmond. My neighbor just recently moved. I did ask a couple of people around, but no one saw her.

Unfortunately, she did not have her collar on, but she is microchipped. I'm going to the shelter tommorow to make a formal report. Also I stopped a police officer and they said they'd keep there eyes out for her.

I left the front gate open and a bowl of food just in case she comes back. She's scared around barking dogs, so I'm worried that she maybe confused.

If it makes you feel any better, I once had a Houdini dog, he got out of our secure backyard three times, each time the SPCA picked him up.  We called him our delinquent doggy.  I'm hoping for a happy ending for your story too.

And like others said, go to the shelters and check, they never called us to let us know they might have our dog, we had to physically go out there and look.

One option you could think about is to contact a pet finding service;  they can use other dogs to track your dog's scent... they might be able to determine if the scent trails off through your neighborhood (if she ran off), or if it stops at the street (if some asshole were to have absconded with her).  Here's the web site for a Vallejo-based petfinding organization that has search dogs: http://findingpaws.com/  It's a lot less expensive than I would have expected too.  You can find more information about scent tracking here: http://missingpetpartn...


You also might want to distribute flyers to vets in the area, if anyone has found her and brought her in for a checkup, or in case she's been injured and another family is taking care of her.  

Also, call the city, county, and state road crews, DOT, and Animal Control daily to see if they have come across your pup.  Be sure to frequently check all shelters within a 100 mile radius - if dogs get loose, they can travel quickly!  But I'd doubt that she'd cross a bridge.

Also, contact any pit bull rescues that you can find in Northern California.  Chances are if she ends up in a shelter and has a good temperament, they might pick her up  and try find a home for her rather than leaving her in the shelter for an indefinite period of time.

Try posting on all of the missing pet websites you can find too:

http://www.batnet.com/... is the missing pet network for the bay area.

Posting on the petfinder forums and in the classifieds: http://www.petfinder.c..., and search the listings occasionally, since she might show up there.

If you want to put up a website or search blog-type thing, register a domain name (or you can use a subdomain on my domain) and I'll put it up for you.    PM me if you want so I can get more pictures and info.  I'll actually set it up now so that if you want to use it it'll be ready to go.  If we can get all the yelp regulars to link to it, it'll be at the top of search results in no time.

It's a way to track your dog if he or she is ever lost or stolen.  A tiny microchip is implanted under the skin, usually between the shoulder blades, that chip carries your contact information, name, address, phone number, your vet's info, etc.  Many shelters and vets are equipped with scanners that allow them to read these chips and thus reunite lost doggies with their families.

I doubt that it isn't too far off in the future!! theres just a lot to consider - interference mainly. Maybe I should do something like this for my BS senior project...interesting...

Either way, Sharon - I'm off to TFM to put up some flyers! I'll put one in our window facing San Pablo ave so that people passing by will see it too.

Missy is that nice of a dog, and she's a leaner, you know, the kind of puppy that just leans in to the pets and the scratches, it's so cute. :)  That's good news though, because friendly pets are far more likely to find people when they are scared or hungry rather than run and hide, so the friendly ones are much more likely to be found.

I went to the Pinole, Martinez, Berekely, Alameda animal shelters and she wasn't there, but I made a lost report. They told me to check the website for pictures of her.

I posted some fliers in the neighborhood and spoke to some of the neighbors. They didn't see her, but will keep an eye out for her.

I'm at home right now. I'm hoping she'll come back. I feel very helpless. The nights are so cold, I hope she's okay.  I'm going to post some more fliers tommorow. If anyone would like fliers please let me know and I'll send you the word doc.
