A couple of my friends just got digital perms and they look fabulous!  I so want one.  Unfortunately, they both got theirs in the City, which I loathe!  Not that I loathe SF, I loathe driving there.  I am SF driving retarded and San Franciscans would certainly appreciate me NOT driving there.  I would love to know of someone on this side of the bridge who does great digitial perms!

Uh... it's truly worth driving to a trustworthy salon for a digital perm. I drove 400 miles to LA to get mine. Be careful, girl!

From some website that popped up after googling digital perm:

Digital Perm is similiar to a Thermal Reconditioning (Japanese Straightening).  Digital perm is a perm done wth a Perm Machine.  Some of you may be familiar with "Machine Permanent Wave" an old technique created by charles nessler back in 1905 that used aa heavily wired machine that supplied electrical current to metal rods to heat the rods to set the perm.   the machine took some changes over the years.  some of the terms used for this machine is called the setting perm.  The setting perm machines are still used widely in the Asian Market Currently until the Digital Perm was created.  The setting perm was too damaging to the hair due to the high heat from the rods, but a digital perm has more controlled heat and has less damaging effects and was created for simplicity.   The solutions used in the digital perm breaks down the bonds and the ceramic heated rods sets in the shape of the perm.  the digital perm is widely used to create loose curls or waves.   The results are longer lasting style retentionn, easy manageability, additional volume and fullness and greater control in styling hair.  (1 digital perm can outlast 3 to 6 perms)

My question is, will this be a bitch and a half to touch up?  My guess is yes.  Perms are a lot harder to touch up than a relaxer, and this kind will be even more challenging than a regular one.  (I am a licensed cosmetologist).

Tsada how come I'm just NOW finding out that your a cosmetologist? Girls.... wear your hair natural. Be proud of the hair you were born with. I'm finally growing out this damned relaxer and even though its a bitch and a half t will be worth it to wear my naps proudly! not only that but I'm definitely going to gain part of my life back since I wont be spending 4 hours on it every week! Sometimes even twice a week! AHH!

I have wavy hair...or used to until I let it grow out. It just kinda lays there now.  I was thinking of chopping it to get my wavies back when my gf came by to show off her new digi perm.

I'm hoping to  have my cake and eat it too.  :)

Brittany--

I don't do hair anymore, but I did for 9 years.

I was the Jheri Curl queen of Bjorn's Hairstyling academy in Vallejo in the nineties.

Sadly, Vallejo can be a decade or two behind the times, Angela.

I'm trying to get DH to keep his natural.  He likes the finger waves.  I think they make him look a little like Bo Diddley.
