Hey folks - I thought this could be a useful conversation for folks here in the Valley. I've got a Toyota and haven't been impressed with the work the local Toyota dealership on Camelback has done on it (not to mention what they charge me each time I go there).
Have any of you found a solid, trustworthy independent auto shop that charges decent prices in the Metro Area? If so, where? I'd definitely like to take folks' recommendations versus picking one out of the phone book. Stuff I'm looking to get done: regular engine maintenance check (oil change, etc.), rotation and alignment, brakes, etc.
Cheers.

Hey Omer --
Aaron A. got me hip to Arizona Import Specialists. Joel's pretty damn good. They've moved down the street since Aaron wrote this review:

Good luck!

Hey Omer, I have a Toyota too, and I'm having the same problem with Camelback. I'm just not overly impressed. My brother was taking his Toyota to a place on the SE Corner of Glendale and 19th Ave on the same corner as the Fry's. I think it starts with a B. I've got a call into my brother to get the details. They did a great job, were reasonable and honest as far as he could tell. I'll get back to you with the details.

Thanks folks! I'll call around and take a look. My car definitely needs some work soon, otherwise I won't be heading out anywhere to review anything anytime soon...
Cheers.

Heya Omer, try Technicare Auto on 7th St and Osborne...the guy who owns it is named Arvind and he's been working on cars since the beginning of time so he will either be able to do some good work for you or he's that stand up of a guy that he would refer you to another place if he thinks it can be done better somewhere else. Also I just had routine maintenance done at the Brake Masters on 19th Ave and Bethany Home and those guys are good! They tightened my belts for free, replaced a front headlight for free (I had to buy the headlight of course, but no maintenance charges) and they charged half the price of Jiffy Lube for my oil change and filter replacement. Good honest business is what we all dream of right?!? Hope this helps! Ciao!

Omer, I've got an appointment tomorrow to take my car to Taylor's at 19th Ave and Glendale. I'll give you the scoop. My check engine light just came on and I need a few other things -- trans fluid, A/C maint, alignment, etc.

So, I went to Taylor's this morning. I was ready to spend several hundred dollars to get my car in good shape. I parked and went in to give the head mechanic, Mark, my keys. He said, "Why don't you wait for a sec and I'll hook it up and see what the check engine light is all about." He hooked it up and turns out my gas cap was loose. It was creating somekind of reading that there was a system leak. Once he tightened my gas cap the light went off. I asked about the other stuff...A/C check? Nope, everything's ok. Transmission fluid -- all good. Alignment -- nope, you don't need an alignment, but I do need new tires in a few thousand mile.
I finally asked, "What do I need to do to my car?" And he replied, "Get in and drive away. No charge!"
Now, I realize they didn't do anything, but if I would've taken it to the dealership, I would've had to leave the car for the day and it would've cost me alot of money.
This has restored my faith in the auto mechanic world! Rock on Taylor's!

OK, I know where i'm going this weekend. Sold! Thanks!
Mike & Rachel - The locations you mentioned are also near where I live so if Taylor's is too busy on Saturday, I'll definitely have backups ready to go to, so thanks again.
Camelback Toyota just leaves a bad taste in my mouth time and time again. Maybe it's the burnt grease.
