Is anyone out there having seriously bad allergies the past two weeks? I feel like I'm going to die from coughing and sneezing!

Cassie - I'm one of the few people who's allergic to Clariton...it sucks. And I managed to leave my allergy pills (Allegra) up back at my home in Nor Cal...good job on my part!
Masa and Fran - Thanks for letting me know it's not just me. My dog had a serious rash outbreak over the weekend and the vet told us that there is a high pollen count in the area...I guess it is effecting me too. Maybe a nice, long vacuuming session in my house will do the trick!

I've had pretty good luck with a prescription med called Astelin. I'm not a big fan of their goofy commercial however, which features a barbershop-esque group called the Astelins, which sing in the background.

Who knew that one head could produce that much snot!
Although I've always pretty much anti-up-the-nose meds, Flonase works like a charm...

Stacey C. says:
Daryl - Thanks so much for the recommendation! I am going to have to see a doc for a prescription soon. I am going NUTS!
Liz - Flonsase scares the cr*p out of me. I hate putting these up my nose...lol.

Liz X. says:
Stacey...I used to be the same way and now I'm a Flonase pusher. Use it...c'mon...it'll feel good. C'mon, little girl!
Sorry, that was creepy...
But seriously, it's some good shit....

Stacey C. says:
Liz - lol. I feel like I'm doing some kind of illegal drug when I shoot Flonase in my nose...and then I get so freaked out I usually sneeze it out. Yes, I'm a baby. It took me like 10 years to get used to swallowing pills!

Stacey, if you're going to your doctor's anyways, I would ask for some samples of Astelin, Rhinocort, Nasacort, etc., just to see which one works best for you. Astelin is different than the others, because I believe that it's more like an antihistamine and fast-acting, while the others are steroid-based, and will take a while for them to take affect. God, I sound like a shill, don't I?!

Stacey C. says:
Daryl - Thanks so much for your tips! You must have really bad allergies...

No problem, Stacy. My allergies have gotten a LOT better since doing the whole allergy shot thing, that's for sure. But I still have to take allergy meds occasionally, just to keep them in check.

I never had allergies before I moved to LA. Once I got here, BAM. This season is really, really bad. Bad enough for me to go blow $300 on an air filter (which means that my room is the only place I'm not sneezing at the moment). The only medication currently working for me is a chlortrimeton/sudafed mix, and it makes me drowsy during the day but wakes me up at night. UGH. I wish it would rain already!!!

my allergies are a year round chronic nightmare ... i tried everything you can imagine (otc and rx drugs from four different countries, accupuncture, homeopathics, you name it). never thought i'd use a nasal spray, but nasacort has been a life saver. it took a couple weeks of regular use to see real results, but it's the only thing that gave me my life back. now i only use it a couple of times a week for maintenance and have a lot less trouble when i travel.
ps - tried the astelin and found it didn't work as well for me. another drawback was the icky aftertaste running down the back of my throat. blech.

4 years of allergy shots, which apparently backfired... thank you, modern medicine. I went in because I was mildly allergic to dogs and some kinds of grass, but thanks to the shots, I'm now allergic to EVERY single thing on their test -- anywhere from moderate to severe. [Uh, except elm trees..? wtf?]. Which means I just LOVE springtime... uuuughhh....
