Debating on what kind of Component system I should get...any Car Audio Know-it-all's out there?  Here are the 4 I'm debating on:

JL Audio ZR-650
JL Audio C5-650
Boston Acoustic Pro60
Diamond Audio

What would be the best speakers to run on a JL Audio Slash Series 300/4 amp?

HELP - can't check the car audio forums here at work.

A co-worker of mine tried 4 different sets of speakers in his truck before finally settling on a set of MB Quart.  He said nothing else sounded right until he put them in.

Mind you, one set might sound fantastic in one setup and horrible in another.  Positioning, airflow and other components in your setup have just as much to do with what you'll experience as the speaker itself.

But, if you're looking for just a good brand?  MB Quart or Boston is where I'd start.

I was thinking MB Quart, but they got bought out a bunch of times, so I'm no longer sold on their quality.

Dynaudios are way too expensive for my taste, but I've heard em' in a car and they sound phenomenal.

as an ex  mecp certified installer, id like to hear this..... damn, i havent heard the name nakamichi in years, remember that home tape player they had that flipped the tape, not change motor directions?

back in my days, i would say mb quartz was minium, good quality... of course quality is very relative.

i was a big ads fan back then. not sure now, but ads was the way to go for componets.... but of course this has alot to do with what you want as an end product. i remember people used to ask me to get this and that and when i suggest that they need to rewire everything because..... WHAT DO YOU MEAN I NEED TO REWIRE, i ain paying more for no bull shit.....

ok so you want me to install this decent set of components, yet keep the stock wiring.
ok......

The Dragon!   Hell, I still rock a Nakamichi amp.  Their car systems weren't all that hot in my opinion, though.  At least not for the price.

MB Quart is still the way to go if you want to go high end without spending much on other components and installation. They'll make a stock head unit with standard shitty wiring sound good just by being dropped in.   Ease goes a long way, and the quality/hassle ratio is still very high. But it's been a long time since I've popped anything in so I'll defer to the other maestros in here..

Okay, so this is what I'm getting from this thread so far...

MB Quart is still as good a speaker as they were before 3 different companies bought them.
Hardly anyone here has JL audio Components.
Wiring and placement is key

Here's my plan thus far

2 pair (one in front & one in rear door) of JL Audio C5-650 Component System
JL Audio - Slash Series 300/4 amplifier
TMA Wiring/Amp Kit

I already have:
Pioneer Avic-Z2
JL Audio Stealthbox w/ 10w3
JL Audio Slash Series 500/1 Amp
JL Audio Bass Knob
Stinger Capacitor w/ digital readout.
TMA Wiring/Amp Kit
Stock Bose Speakers (Will be removed)

I hope you are just asking for opinions on which ones to audition, because you really have to hear them for yourself to make the decision.

Some premium brands I would consider are DLS, Focal and Rainbow.  MB Quart and Boston have fallen out of favor with the high end audio set for a while now.

For a budget set of comps that will perform as well as sets twice the price, try some PG RSDs.  My buddy just tried these out and I was pretty impressed.

Are you going to run rear fill off the 4 channel or are you planning on going active?  Who's doing the install?

I'm doing the install, with my roommate (he's experienced at wiring stuff). I plan on running both pairs of component systems off the 300/4 ampt (running 75w x 4)

Have you considered running the rear speakers off the headunit and fading them down for better soundstage?  (I know it's for a Tahoe, so maybe you are being considerate of rear passengers)

Popular opinion in the car audiophile circles is that you can do better than JL for the money if you aren't too concerned about brand name.  Any particular reason you want to keep the whole system JL?

Well, I already have the 300/4 (300watt, 4 channel) amp, Slash Series by JL Audio.  I'm just kinda anal sometimes, which is why i'm considering matching the front door speakers in the door.

I was also looking in to the MB QUart Q series, but haven't heard them personally.  I heard the C5 series and I liked them even better than the ZR series among the JL Audio Evolution line.

Nakamichi's are more expensive, aren't they?  What's a BETTER speaker for cheaper than the C5's?

Okay...did a lil more homework...

Here's my next strategy:
DLS - UP6i COmponents for the front doors
JL Audio Slash 300/4 to run the DLS speakers (150 watts x 2)
JL Audio TR Components for the rear doors run off the Head Unit (Avic Z2)

THis strategy would save me a couple hundred already.  Do you think it'd give me better sound quality?
