Hey guys, fair enough, kind of lame that McSorley's is up there. Once Yelp NYC gets going, we'll ideally see more and more reviews, and the Law of Averages will take effect. Shameless plug: the more people you invite and tell about Yelp, the quicker we'll get NYC looking like SF...

Out of curiosity, what are some of your guys' favorite watering holes?

Kilarney Rose in the Wall Street area has always been a great weekday bar...and I stress "weekday" because no bar or restaurant in the Financial District remains open past 3pm on Saturday.  I don't know if that's just tradition, or maybe it's the fact that the market is closed and there aren't enough customers around to make staying open worth it.  Additionally, Wall Street bars aren't open on Sundays, so if you're looking to take in a game, you're out of luck.

yeah, i didn't really mean to knock mcsorley's.  i think it's more of an observation/comment on NYC yelpers - we all just like dives?  a friend introduced me to st. dymphna's in the east village and i've had fun the couple times i've been.  i've been back to pravda a few times recently too and i'm happy to report that the walnut martini is still good.

I'm not the biggest fan of McSorely's cuz  it's like a disneylad for beer drinkers...way past its prime and suited more for the frat boy/first time NYC'ers than real guzzlers.

Go NaN! Please review them, that would be super. I'm all for McSorley's but Yelp should be about the real local deal, not a - for better or worse - tourist destination. Actually I was at MdSorley's recently and had fun, but still!

McSorley's, for it's obvious limitations, deserves the respect of all New Yorkers for simply surviving so long. It was already in business when Lincoln gave his speech across the street at Cooper Union. They're still adjusting to having women allowed in.
The Old Town Bar and Pete's, especially, are better if you're into nostalgia. If you're not , you're just too young yet.
I have some very precious memories there from over 20 years ago. Now that my drinking buddy/brother is gone, I still stop by once a year by myself to toast his spirit, as the beer's OK , but more importatntly, it hasn't changed.
Tower Records is gone, Shea is to be torn down soon, the Saloon across from Lincoln Center is now long gone...I'm getting too old and sentimental I guess. Yeah, 49 in NYC is borderline senior citizen.

I saw a line outside McSorleys as if it were a popular nightclub.  Pretty amusing.  Blue and Gold is FABULOUS but not on weekends, at least not Friday at 11pm.  But during the week its great.
