I've been in Minneapolis for a few years now, but find I don't know where you can find the dance. I used to have a great time in Florida at these places that had these britpop/alt-rock/new wave dance nights. Down in Austin, I rocked Elysium's 80's night. But I still don't know where to find this kind of stuff in Minneapolis. This is a decent sized city, they must have comparable.

I have not yet checked out "Too Much Love" at First Ave, and I see they have an 80s night advertised right now ($10 cover???). I have been over to Transmission, and found the dancing lacking. Gay 90s is reliable, Hookers & Blow has been good, and don't even get me started on Drink (gag).

But I ask anyway: where's the dance? What's your favorite place? What do they play? Where's the fun?

The Tapestry has tons of traditional dancing, if you wanna check that out (swing, lindy hop, salsa)

I second First Ave... different dance nights when concerts aren't on.

Funk on selected nights at Jitters (aka the basement of The Times), if you're into classic Motown-inspired soul and funk.

Even Famous Dave's in Uptown has a rockin' salsa night on Tuesdays with a live band... even good for just listening to the music if you're not in the mood for dancing.

There are a ton of places out there.  I'm not really into dancing much, but even I have fun at a number of places... I'm sure that others out there can add many more spots to these lists.
